after watching this series I am thinkn how evil America is for being hypocrites and acting so righteous. they are no different from vietcong or communists. there was no good side or bad side. Serves America right for losing all those lives for their evil ways. The best thing they did was give up and leave Vietnam. Thing is, they are still killing civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. May they all rot in Hell
@AccordGTR In all the wars the United States have been in, how many incidents like this have there been compared to other depraved nations? Not many right? So your view is pretty biased.
@driffter1976 You are wrong. If you look at US history about their imperialist past and present, they have been committing human atrocities longer than the communists. Read about the Philippine-American War 1898-1902 where whole villages were massacred and civilians were subjected to water boarding torture and mass executions. Heck, even the American Civil War, southern plantations were razed and pillaged and scores of civilians raped and murdered by the Union Army. That is your history
@M1CKSTAR It's you who is doomed to ignore the truth about your own govt's history of lies and deception. It is you and your next generation who will suffer from it.
i guess that black fellow if he is truly sorry should go back to vietnam and apologize to the family he killed...if only he is truly sorry..
if American do this again in Afghanistan, the can forget about winning the war there...i hope American soldier now are more smarter and human than those who are send to this village in vietnam.
Varnardo Simpson Killed himself with a shotgun blast to the head in 1997. He had some serious metal problems the rest of his life - if it's not obvious enough
To say that the NVA also massacred people is to avoid confronting American responsibility. The massacres and crimes of the communists are well-known. Yet the myth of American innocence and inherent goodness still thrives within the US. I know. I am American and I was in the military. We continue to live by the myth of Manifest Destiny and we continue to commit unacceptable crimes.
They killed civilians and gave them graves too? What kind of atrocity is that? On the real show some proof other than stones with carving that was sent into the earth by Jesus.
Oh theres plenty of proof, there's footage of the south vietnamese digging up the body's...actually the est. was 3000 dead sorry, a documentary called 'vietnam a television war' documents that atrocity. the VC/NVA were ruthless I've heard of them skin'in GIs alive
that's called propaganda. there are two sides to the story. one side says yes one side says no. for all we know those "bones" could be some of the thousands of VC/Viet Minh killed by Americans and the ARVN used as a propaganda tool to escalate the war in Viet Nam as the false Gulf of Tonkin incident.
Oh now I see why you're acting biased, your from North Vietnam! well the Americans could never have just killed 3000 civilians near the city of Hue, everybody would see it, and it would tarnish the US reputation even more, there's footage of the NVA going door to door and rounding up civilians to be massacred, and testimony by South Vietnamese citizens who witnessed it.
Besides the massacre was done before the US was even deployed to Hue, it was when the NVA were in control of Hue.
I guess we love to slaughter people so much that Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) today has a population of over 10 million people. I don't think they did a good job as described by you. Don't assume that since I am from the "North" I defend the "invader" of which a country "south Viet Nam" was illegally established. Lots of the VC were south recruits. Like I said learn about what you're trying to preach and if this is about communism, then you should know Canada is way more communist than Viet Nam is.
I understand how south Vietnam was "illegally" established by the french and foriegn powers, in the 50's but does that give the North the right to start a war, I also understand how Diem was christian which upset many southern buddhists and turn them communist. Sure Saigon has a large populas, because the Americans helped defend against the NVA, I'm not saying the NVA "slaughtered" the whole south, but even three people being killed is a slaughter, as far as I'm concerned.
I don't care what kind of simple mind would say "you have no rights to unify your country". We Vietnamese were the victors of 1954 and Viet Nam belonged to the victors not the French nor the Americans. We were even open to set diplomats with both parties, just like how Yugoslavian Tito used to be mutual with all countries. I hear a lot of blames on NVA what about America? They were nice weren't they? Dropping bombs in cities and killing millions of civilians yet you try to blame the Vietnamese?
Why should the USA fight Russia or China at that time south Vietnam was the only non-communist country being invaded at that time. USA weas actually close to bombing Cuba and Russia before that. Where ever communism strikes they intervene "El Salvador" "Panama" etc...
South Viet Nam was not a country. It was between the French and the Vietnamese to unify the country under the Geneva Accord it had nothing to do with America yet they were there. There was no "south Viet Nam" before 1954 and god forbidden there should never be a north and south Viet Nam as long as this planet exist! If you think with that much IQ you might as well say Quebec is trying to fight for independence from Canada and split the country and maybe then we can split Viet Nam and everybody.
But I know you're a bias little cunt so I'll stop wasting time throwing numbers back and fourth about my country since you don't even know jack rabbit's ass from it's tail. It's like me going on about the RCMP massacring people in Caledonia. OVER 5000 people got killed for their land.. LOL. GTFO man and if you really want to talk shit about a country you don't know troll then there are other retards like you on the internet who would love an orgy. To start shit come to Viet Nam end of story.
The war wasn`t worth it, 3 million dead just to unify the south, if you think with that much IQ, you deserve to have grown up during the war and fight as an NVA and see just how bloodthirsty your army was killing civilians along with US soldiers, at that point I`m sure you`d become a `Chieu Hoi`for the ARVN because you`d know the war was a loser for the NVA, and if not for the media coverage the US would have won.
You cannot be so ignorant to deny to NVA massacre at Hue, I`m dignified enough to register the US atrocitys, but My Lai was nothing compared to what the NVA did at Hue!
No.. My Lai was nothing compared to what the American did throughout the entire war! You acknowledge My Lai yet the bombing of cities and villages you don't acknowledge, then all of the sudden 3 million Vietnamese suffered the wrath of the unknown or in your case the NVA they killed everyone even themselves. What grade are you in 5? Yeah USA would've probably won, YADAYADAYADA that isnt that case is it? You love America so much don't you, like how they rape and kill women in Iraq and else where?
Did the North really have to start that war? why didn't the South invade the North?. It's rather harsh when the NVA has Russian funded weapons and the South has nothing, so I understand how the US got involved they'd look like cowards for not standing up to Russia.
Yes the north had to start the war,. We had to rescue our country from America's military expansion. We know that all America wanted to do was to establish a military colony to barricade China like in Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, Korea. We didn't like China either we even helped America saved MIA during WWII then they turned on us, humbled them with the our declaration of independence script and played by their rule to unified the country until it was breached and canceled by the Americans.
The USA looked like cowards for fighting the Vietnamese instead of the Chinese or Russian end of story. Remember the Viet Minh? Thousands resided in South Viet Nam and they were all executed. What is your take on that? They had no rights to live because they were "communist" right?
Canada will never be close to communist, because any "one" person can be a millionaire at any time. Yes the French lost and the country was still split in two, but was it worth it to lose 3 million lives in the american war, when both sides could still be at peace? well wasn't that nice for Clinton to drop the embargo, how would your ecomony be without that.
do you even know the idealistic of socialism? common wealth is a big issue and canada as a good distribution of wealth and what the hell are you talking about one person can be a millionaire any time? are you a millionaire? canada is one of the highest tax country in the world people are struggling to pay off their taxes alone becoming a millionaire. what have you been smoking man? NVA did not kill our own civilians and 3 million death is to blame on foreigners.
Are you mentally insane or what? People in Viet Nam can make millions of dollars with music, art just as they do in any western country. China has businessman among billionaires. The only problem with my country is that it's poor and people don't have cash to waste on unnecessary accessories like Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton etc. maybe you've been living under a bridge, I know many successful farmers who became millionaires selling inventions in Viet Nam.
Are you a Vietnamese Canadian because if you're not that just makes this conversation 100x ironic because Canadians had nothing to do with the Viet Nam war. Actually Canadians just sat silently in their igloo while the war was going on for 15 years. Why Canadians don't even know where Viet Nam is on the world map let alone discuss about our history. Now before you spazz on me I am not talking about all Canadians because I have met a few intellectuals.
There`s no need for insults ìgloo` I`m not insulting your country, many Canadians are intelligent and know a lot of world History, we`re not like the USA, actually Canada supplied over 60% funding for the US war machine, and over 5000 Canadian men volunteered to go to Vietnam.
I don't like Canada either buddy, but I don't see how we're communist? the difference between our countries is out here one person can work hard and be a millionaire, over there everybodys the same, which is why you guys are lovely people! also if you kill somebody out here a lawyer can get you off in court, over there people are actually punished!
You misunderstood me. Canada is a social country in a good sense. Healthcare, wealthfare, education is all provided by the government's expense that is a step closer to ideal communism. Viet Nam can only wish to reach that level of socialism. We are after all a developing country which is funny because we've been a civilization before Canada and the USA was even born.
In the end the North won nothing, that's why they had to drop the embargo with America, and you see nothing but KFC in Hanoi today, they could have had it all in the beginning!! it's just blind angry nationalism that prompted Nguyen Tat Thanh to start that war.
Actually it was not us who dropped the embargo on the USA it was the USA who placed an embargo on us. The only ally we had at the moment was the Soviet union which collapsed in 1991. When Clinton dropped the embargo and called for a normalization in 1995 Viet Nam's economy roused and the Allies were allowed to trade with us again. We never hated the American's but it was not their place to come into our country and establish their military colony in the south, to barricade Red China.
Listen I think the war was wrong too, the Americans should never have gone, they just should have sat back and let the North go into the South and slaughter the South Vietnamese. I think the Southern government was corrupt, especially Diem, but that doesn't give the North the right to come down and start killing Southerners, ask yourself why didn't the Southerners start the war and invade the North? I think who ever starts the killing is wrong (Northerners) I'm Canadian by the way.
Do not assume that I am bias because I don't believe in western and "South Viet Nam" propaganda. You live in a western world with abundance of information. So before you start exchanging sides, you better learn more about the history of what you're talking about. I know how westerners like to think that they know everything about every culture, but it does not work that way in this case.
Well it's not "propaganda" when I see a young women saying how her father was taking out and killed with others by the NVA, then at the body site she identifys her fathers body, as he was killed with an AK47 round to the back of his head, along with other familys there identifing their loved ones, all of this is documented, I'm suprised you've never heard about it, maybe ask some of the elders?
I am an American. I am so sorry for what we have done...God, what have we done to these poor people. Watching that women cry... I can feel her pain no words can describe...
What have we done to these poor people? How are these soldiers who killed these helpless people in puddles of three plies anu different from the Nazi of the Holocaust(other than the reason for killing?)... War is the ultimate reflection of hideous side of human...
ok lets be balanced, every group committed massacres. But can you americans stop acting "holier than thou" and pretending you are fighting for "the free world" and stop lecturing other countries on human rights
God is real.... good mean with balls to protest their corrupt goverments .. apparentley are not..... keep blamin God ... why don´t you get off your ass instead?
to that old women, i can feel her pain from her story. I wanna cry for her and take her pain away from her and bring back the ones that she loves but i can't do that. i' dont have any power, ): it makes me so mad that the american that was supposed to be helping them turns their back against them and killed all of them from children, to women to the eldery people for no reasons

In the end the North won nothing, that's why they had to drop the embargo with America, and you see nothing but KFC in Hanoi today, they could have had it all in the beginning!! it's just blind angry nationalism that prompted Nguyen Tat Thanh to start that war.
area51er6 1 year ago

I know how westerners like to think that they know everything about every culture, but it does not work that way in this case.
vntiger 1 year ago

I don't want to be insensitive but let's be balanced.
How many massacres did the North Vietnamese commit?
We Americans catch grief for this because we listen and respect free speech. Other groups in this conflict, the Russians, the North Vietnamese don't.
edydon 2 years ago
ok lets be balanced, every group committed massacres. But can you americans stop acting "holier than thou" and pretending you are fighting for "the free world" and stop lecturing other countries on human rights
