The thing about Casavettes films is that at the core his films where about human emotions. We all as people, feel these emotions and live them on a daily basis. I think that seeing these emotions on the screen can be to much for the normal person. That is what made Casavettes so great. He was able to capture emotion and heart and serve it up to us.
Casavette's films to me aren't fun, they're not a romp,They're not a ride, they're a 10 mile march, he makes you work to get through his films. They're raw, and jagged, and about as much fun as a being heartbroken and kicked in the groin...but in the end you realize you got these feelings from pictures and words, and to me that makes Cassavetes awesome and one of the best! This film was fantastic!
There aren't enough films out there that don't rely on entertainment. It's just not necessary. Andrei Tarkovsky said he was completely against entertainment in cinema and I'm surprised he wasn't burned at the stake for it.
