Good pitch and a very pretty timbre! I would work on diction and expression and also get a different accompanist. Wow, they really lost track at one point.
You definately have a good voice. Watch the video of Annie Lennox performing it at the Oscars. She helped write it so she knows how it is supposed to feel. Listen to her and watch her. Feel the song and let it come from you. This is only constructive as you definately have something here. Good job.
you seem to really come alive on the higher parts... try singing more gently or softly on the lower....
all the timing mix ups early on distracted me from how lovely you sing .... as this was just a rehersal im sure you have fixed them by now, but yea - - almost none of the first part was in sync with the piano (she had to rush/ skip parts to keep up)
I'm not qualified to judge your singing, but two comments: a) this song is not great for piano (IMHO) but for an orchestra; b) the quality of the recording was not good; next time have the audio folks patch into the microphone.
Same from me, voice nice, but timing - not your thing. Dont worry I have the same problem, what I do is: I memorize the lyrics so I can look up at somebody whos giving me the beat, a conductor, that saves me really.
You got feeling, though. And this is a hard song to start, I mean listen to the voice af annie, just wow!
same from me, good voice apart from one or two smaller parts, but timing - not your thing. Dont worry, I have the same problem. I usually work this way: I memorize the lyrics so I can look up and have somebody giving me the beat, a conductor, until I know the rhythm too.
And by the way, I think you got feeling. Just not in time :)
I think some problems you had came from a combination of lack of proper voice training for a song like this, possible unfamiliarity with the song, and the crazy tempo of the piano.
However I think with more training you could be a really great singer :)
Girl no worries about being your first performance on this. Frankly the piano needs to just go with what you give. She can work on that too. Your tone is great, just dont let your nervousness make you skip rests! Gotta count girl. But don't worry you rock. Pianist, if my vocalist skips notes, I just play chords with a running top line and try to modulate with her when she moves on. This is especially easy in slow songs like this after practicing for a while. Good work guys!!
Your voice is beautiful! But just as Paine07 said, listen carefully to the piano and don't speed up the pauses. And one of the most important things in this song is the feeling; you must know what you're singing about and show the feeling both with your voice and with your body. When you do that, nobody can complain about anything :)
FIRST TIME PERFORMING A SONG AND YOU CHOSE THIS ONE MY FIRST PERFORMED SONG WAS LIKE IF YOUR HAPPY AND YOU KNOW IT CLAP YOUR HANDS (I WAS FOUR) BUT STILL GOOD JOB FOR A FIRST TIME PERFORMANCE! okay so were you at school or what?
Definitely need to time it with the piano and little more and slow it down. You have a very nice voice but the reason Annie Lennox is so good isn't because she has a nice voice, it's cause she sings with a ton of emotion. Try that
Don't be so nervous hun, you have a great voice! ^^ Before you go on stage it's helps to take a couple of deep breathes and forget anything but how amazing your going to be! ^-^ Keep it up!
: O *gasp* your first song?? WOW amazying, SING MORE. Might sound dumb but as teachers and coaches say, Practice, practice and practice and you will be a big star with no problems.
I agree with the other commentors, you have amazing natural talent. Your nervousness shows and affects the performance.
Tune out the studio, tune out the audience, live inside the song mentally and emotionally while you you perform. Let your mental images and emotions pour out of you into the music.
Keep at it! You have a beautiful voice. Let yourself use it.
Damn girl! If that's your 'really scared first performance', I am a scared of how good you'll be once you 'get going' ! You were EXCELLENT ! That's an amazing first performance!!!!
Quite good! You have a very nice voice! To improve your performance, though, you need to make the song your own. You sounded unsure, nervous and a bit hurried at times. I know what it's like to be nervous on stage, but don't let that influence your performance. Think only of the song. I think with some added confidence you could be really good. ;-)
When you sing the verses, especially the low parts, don't just make it sound like as if you are talking but rather make them flow like you are singing a lullaby.
Great job. Nervousness will make you rush, especially nervousness from your first recital! Great pitch and breath support, though. Right on. Keep it up, you have a great voice.
u no the first time i heard into the west, i thort it was sung by a guy (a very fit one at that) but wen i sed that 2 ppl i got so embarrassed! im soooo sorry! i no rite! fabby singer tho!
Great! Keep singing! Love the song! And I agree with frubafreak17, I lvoe your high notes, I would have loved you to sing high the whole time, but BRAVO!!!
The song ain't that hard to sing just gotta watch your pitch rythm and speed. If you got those down you all set :) (btw your a little pitchy) nice though...
Not true, THE PIANIST fixed the singer and not the other way round. She doesn't sing at the good rythm, she goes too fast. Voice is good, but speed sux :S
I really loved your high notes, and while I thought you and the piano kinda got off track of eachother, you have a very strong voice, and I simply love the tone.
I can understand the nerves, i takes a LOT of courage to do this, you remind me of the first time i did this! But if you have continued i am sure you have gotten over it and can perform with more confidence.
Did i mention you have a sweet voice, i hope you continue.
The sound engineer killed Annie Lennox's live performance.
To understand, listen to the CD Studio version on Return of the King with the live version side by side and break it down.
You may notice how the French Horns lift Ann's voice during the chorus, then Ann's voice rises above the French Horn creating emotional magic together bringing out those misty eyes that people talk about.
I must admit that your chorus version hits those hi's that Ann's live performance is missing.
good voice quality but you need more technique and more importantly emotion in your interpretation. the first part really came a bit unrefined. but still, you have the strings to pull off those high notes.
Very nice voice! Like others have said, just have more emotion...that will come with time. To see someone with a lot of emotion...watch Annie Lennox's live performance of this song.
Wow o.o she has a beautiful voice!!!
