I disagree about the monotony being bothersome. It lends an hypnotic, trance-like quality to the song. However, perhaps it is highlighting the obsessive monotony of being thoroughly devoted to someone? It is unwavering, unchanging and always constant - hence monotonous.
@beowulf05 I completely agree with you. Once I heard this on a Neofolk party, got completely "tranced" and hypnotised, then at the end could just 'Shazam' it and bought the day after on iTunes!
