  • more of towrecker on this my second channel , give me an honest opinion on what ya think of my truck , she is ugly , but I like her lol

  • this is a swap I have wanted to do to my wrecker , check my channel , I think you will like this truck 63 c30 , anyways to my question , can you tell me where the parts came from , say trucks to look for as parts donors , I am clueless , can ya point me in the right direction , if not a diesel conversion ,I need more gears , run 3,500 rpm at 65-70 mph , 9 mi to a gallon lol truck is still a worker , it's my only split boom wrecker ...

  • @towrecker

Look for 70's to very early 80's medium duty gm trucks. some of them came with 4-53 Detroits in them. You'll want to run higher gears and and/or an overdrive since they don't run at the rpm that the gas engines do. I am rebuilding a 14 bolt with a 3.73 ratio among other things to help get my top speed up above 58.

  • @therealpope79 that makes sense , I went from a 5.13 down to a 4.56 , it helped on the highway , but it really made a hit on the bottom end , if I stay gas , I am going to have to get more gears , so I guess you gave up on the brownie idea ?

  • @towrecker

I couldnt get it to fit without having a real short rear driveline and real long front drive line. I am trying to find an overdrive transmission to use. I would really like to find an RTO610 or rto6610 to run. I am using the brownie behind our 72 Chevy Perkins 1 ton, there was plenty of room and it fits great in there!

  • Ughhh I want that truck, I love that body style especially the look of the front end

  • How are you handling the power brakes? Vacuum pump?

  • @stoobers1

I am still running the original brake system that isn't power assist. But If I went to a power brake system I would run a hydroboost system..

  • I have a question:

I thought these 2-strokes were always supercharged. How did you get it turbocharged? Also, how does it start without the supercharger pumping?

  • @stoobers1

All of these 2 strokes had a blower on them. The blower was driven by the engines geartrain, so as long as the crank turned the blower pushed air into the airbox. Turbochargers were later added to increase power and effiency to these and most other diesel engines.

  • That is too cool dude Id love to hear that thing run... youre in belgrade MT? been through there once or twice... BTW CW MCall kicks, can you say "convoy" lol

  • @wagner59270

Yep, I am in Belgrade. I plan on moving back to Wilsall after I get the place back into shape, I hate the population around here! How are things in Sidney?

  • I got a few car friends, we always get into arguments into what is the best sounding engine. One always says its some mistubishi engine with some fake exaust kit, one says its the engine from a 458 ferrarri, and i always say its the 4-53 turbo detroit. I like to think ive won

  • @ClassicCountryBoy1

    I Think the same!

  • Had to watch twice cause the first time I was just listening to the song! Great truck!

  • what bell housing did you use?

  • @supperdinoslayer

I used the larger automotive style bellhousing, that fits to the medium duty transmissions.

  • what transmission did you use?

  • @familyjuels It's a New Process 542GL. 5th gear is direct drive.

  • nice song

  • I wood take the truck that and the 4-53t that wood work if it was not to mush

  • where you at in mt I am in missoula i am looking for a 4-53t

  • @philvredevelt I am in Belgrade. I will let you know if I find anything locally. I do have to go to Missoula for National Guard drills now, so if you find something I can haul it there. Ebay has som listed right now, I was just looking at a 4-53T with a 5 speed in a 79 c70. What are you planning to put it in?

  • Nice truck! I want to find a cooling fan for my 453T like yours. But im not sure i have as much room under the hood as you do. I may have to go electric fan on my truck.

    5 Stars on your ride!

  • I may not be able to keep the fan...I havn't been able to check clearances with the front clip installed. It should clear, but is gonna be tight...and if it ain't tight it ain't right....Actually an electric fan is the way to go because you have better controll over the cooling, you can maintain a "more constant" engine temp and they really help with winter warm up since they don't constantly pull air across the radiator or engine, until operating temp is reached allowing faster warm up.

  • Yea looks like your at the same point i am. Im just about to get the front clip on and see how tight the 453 really is under the hood, and its gonna be tight. An electric fan will be nice in the winter like you said, especially were my truck is being built as a plow truck.

  • @josh216882000 Yeah, you are a bit farther than I am, my project funds have been cut short. I would like to have the body back on within a month, so that i can run it. I am supposed to deploy to Iraq this summer and I really want to drive it before shipping off. I plan on a full restoration of the truck when I return. A couple of oil lines, a dive shaft, and cab mounts should get it on the road!

  • Your truck is awsome i have a 1960 Apache 40 i want to put a 453 in, id love to get some info or advice on doing it

  • You bet! If I rember right the 40 had 6.17 gears....or close to that so you are really going to want an overdrive! An aux box is fun and you should have the room. There are 3 on ebay right now, spicer 5831. These are 3 speed but I don't know what the final ratios are for the ones listed but if you put one behind an O.D. trans you will have highway ability without loosing your factory rear axle (if you are wanting to keep it that way)
