There is no single act that grants salvation over all others. The following quotes are the plan of salvation. Words in caps are the act, but letter limits keep me from including the book and verse. "So then faith cometh by HEARING...". "He that BELIEVETH and is BAPTIZED...". "REPENT and be baptized every one of you...". "That if thou shalt CONFESS with thy mouth". "...BE THOU FAITHFUL unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life"
Mark 16:16. "He that believeth AND is baptized shall be saved. He that believeth not shall be damned"
2+2=4. 2 and 2 SHALL BE 4. 2+0 does NOT equal 4. Both pieces are required to assemble the whole. The second half of the verse does not invalidate the first because you're either saved or not. So when is says "he that believeth AND is baptized..." it's saying that both parts lead to salvation
it is an act of faith. but the moment you believe you are saved. Romans 10:9 says, 'that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
In Acts 22:16 says that baptism washes away our sin. In Rev 1:5 it says that the blood of Christ washes away our sin. Therefore, its in baptism that one contacts the blood of Christ which washes away their sins. The faith that saves is the faith that obeys. Matt. 28:19 says Christ commanded it. Read the bible especially the New Testament. In the book of Acts see if you can find one example of conversion that doesn't include baptism
It's weird for me seeing all these kids.. I grew up in the Church of Christ also.. I planned to be baptized, but never did because I was shy. I didn't know how to pray and I didn't want to get up in front of the church.
As I got older I realized that I was not a believer. It was too late for me then. Mark 16:16 gives the ultimatum. I don't believe. :(
I don't believe God would condemn 4 to 6 billion people to eternal suffering. Either one believes or he doesn't. Is that a choice?
Yes baptism in Jesus name is absolutely essential for salvation.
WHY?
Please come to my web site as I explain why we need to baptized and what happens to us during baptism. I also explain who we become after baptism--it is a wanderful salvation message.
Yes baptism (submersion in water) is neccessary just as hearing the word is necessary, repenting is necessary and obeying Christ's commandments as best as you can and living a repentent life by asking forgiveness on and ongoing basis is necessary. The Baptist/denominational logic would have you believe that baptism is a work and not necessary, but it is a obedient action like hearing the word. By their logic hearing the word is not necessary either, so everyone is saved for doing nothing.
1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
-
Apparently it does. We cannot be saved by faith alone, because James 2:26 states faith without works is dead. Even just believing doesn't save us, as Paul tells in Acts 19:1-6. We need to be born again, like stated in John 3:3-7, and in Acts 2:38. There is no other way, but through Christ.
salvation comes through faith alone. repentance and baptism is for the remission of sins.clearly says it.we shouldnt be having people saying that salvations is from work, then we shall boast
@turi73 People who would boast in their baptism have not understood that it IS an act of faith in Jesus! Look at your own statement. How does one pass from (spiritual) death to life without the remission of sin? Don't fear the false dilemma of reformation theology. Repentance and water baptism in the name of Jesus is FOR the remission of sin. We are saved through His resurrection when we obey ...not any work that merits His grace.
I think being baptized is definetly a good point, in this way you express that you want to be a part of god and you want to go the way jesus is gone..

I think so because its desitiny whether you got born in a christian family or you got born in a atheism family, and i think its wrong to say that your childhood/family doesnt influence your decision of being baptized. So what ...
Wrong question. It should be why NOT. The Bible teaches that is when we put on Christ to live a christian life. When we die to sin(no longer a sinner.) Go into the water a sinner and come up a christian. The Bible wouldn't deceive us would it?
jesus himself was baptised by water... in john 3 he says we must be born of water and spirit to enter the kingdom. he commands his disciples to go and baptiste in the name of the father son holy ghost
Wow people the answer is simply yes. This video amazes me because there are so many peopl that don't know, and saying things like we don't have a right o know orthat's for God to decide. Read the Bible please...1 Peter 3:21. Also The boy from 1:55-2:00 missquoted that scripture very badly. He said in the name of the father, and of the son, and the holy spirit. That is not what Acts 2:38 says. It says in the name of Jesus...go read it if you don't believe me. Not to argue just to clarify. :)
Plain enough. Amazes me that one can read Acts 2:38 or I Pet 3:21 and possibly misunderstand. However, sometimes they have alot of "help" in misunderstanding - usually takes an hour to "undo" the plain statements of the Bible.
You knew I was still posting context even if I took my time if you read the first post before responding. I wrote:

And then I posted Acts 19:1-3 in the same post and the posted Acts 19:4-7 in the next post as you knew I would unless u=you ignored the context of the post. You seem to have trouble with context.
Act 19:4-7. Paul finds some people who were baptised in the baptism administered by John in water. He asked them concerning the baptism of Jesus in the Holy Spirit. They hadn't heard of it. So the Apostle baptises them in the power (name) of the Lord Jesus. How? By laying his hands upon them. Then the Holy Spirit came down and they were baptised in it. Sorry but that verse shows that your doctrine is wrong.
Actually in Acts 19, Paul laid hands on them after they were Baptized, the same as in Acts 8 when Peter and John laid Hands on the samaritans after they were Baptized(acts 8:16because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into[c] the name of the Lord Jesus. 17Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. ) The events are both the same...
That is ok. It is easy to do. I should have looked at your page to see you are a conservative quaker. I thought you might be one of three people who are Calvinists who have been emailing and who were not very nice. I just finnished combing through all their messages & realized you are not connected. Actually we may have other things in common. Do you believe christains should ever particapate in Carnal warefare. I believe Ro 12 & 13 rule this out among many other verses.
No, I do not believe that Christians should ever participate in carnal ware fare. Our war is spiritual not carnal, our weapons are spiritual not carnal. If you believe that Rom.12 & 13 are against participation in war then I agree with you. It is more than clear that Christians should love their enemies. I belong to a Peace Church (most known peace churches are: Quakers, Mennonites, Amish, Hutterites, Brethren, etc.)
We both had a few misunderstandings from our dealings with Calvinists. By the way Alexander Campbell a Church of Christ preacher had an Address on War that was against Christains going to war that is in the congressional record. D. Lipscomb, T. Fanning, J.A. Harding were against Christains
participation in Carnal warfare and In Englnd CofC members went to jail rather than go into WWI and William Kay Moser went to jail rather than go to war. All members of the Church of Christ.
I got very upset when you called me a Calvinist because I consider Calvinism one of the worse cults. I thought maybe you were a Calvinist trying to get revenge because I posted against "absolute predestination" on their videos.
Act 19:4 Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus." 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. 7There were in all about twelve men
You can't pick apart contest here. There are questions, answers, actions and results that you ignore.
Here are those Scriptures you ignore in context again. It will take more than one post.
Act 19:1 It happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some disciples. 2 He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." 3 And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Into John's baptism."
You just stoped short of the context that show Baptism in the name of Jesus was also done before the Holy Spirit arrived.
JonahTorn: "Here are those Scriptures you ignore in context again. It will take more than one post. Act 19:1 It happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some disciples." ..."3 And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Into John's baptism."
I posted twice to get the verses in. You cut the context. I had poeted the verses many times and you miss the context every time. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying.
Cutting words you missed the Holy Spirit coming after they were Baptized in Jesus name. I told you it would take more than one post. It was there to see.
Acts 19:1-7 Dealt with the very distictions between water in John's Baptism for repentance and Baptism in the name of Jesus
and you have not been able to pick apart the context of those verses to get them to say what you want. You have not even approached those verses to helpe me see what I missed, but I have addressed by quoting these the issues you brought up including acknowledging
a Distintion Between John's Baptism with water & the Spirit only Jesus offers when Baptised in his name.
Matthew does NOT mention water in the great commission, Mark doesn't, Luke doesn't. John doesn't mention the incident at all. In Acts Jesus Himself says what He meant, " And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence." (Acts 1:4-5).
So do you believe all people Quaker or not-- have always had direct and immediate access to God, and that all other sources of religious understanding are inessential and subordinate, including scriptures, church authority, tradition, reason, and formal religious education.
For more information on Calvinism check out the video Fallen Man Totally Depraved.
Here what they say about Holy Spirit and judge for yourselves if themistoklisp is a Calvinist. I have had enough of hearing about the Holy Spirit & Jesus from some one who ignores both when confronted with God breathed scripture.
The Scriptures DID NOT FALL FROM THE SKY as Protestants seem to imagine. They are the product of the Church. Jesus did not promise us a book but the Holy Spirit to lead us. That Scripture is the final authority is Protestant heresy. The Bible points to the final authority Christ Jesus, the Word of God.
JonahTorn is totally ignorant on these subjects since he seems not to know that Calvinists (the followers of that false teacher John Calvin) not only believe in water baptism but baptize infants too!!!!
You JonahTorn are a heretic and idolater. You replaced the baptism in the Holy Spirit with a bath in water. You rely not on the blood of Jesus but on water for salvation. Not only you don't have the Holy Spirit in order to understand Scripture but you try to close the door to those who want to know the Truth.
Whoever replaces Jesus Christ ANYTHING is an idolater, and you have replaced Him with.... water!
Says the man who ignores Jesus power and Spirit and Jesus apostles and the Holy Spirit in the Scriptures when none of those Sources agree with what he wants to say.
I here Calvinists talk about accepting Jesus in their hearts and then they reject him right out of the verses they use and His power, picking away at the parts they hate because they follow Calvin. You say you accept Jesus. When!
No, I haven't. I don't believe in "absolute predestination", I don't believe in once saved always saved, I don't believe in salvation without obedience to Jesus (Mt.5, 6, 7). Obviously you don't know what Calvinist teach.
"... water baptism is a Jewish ritual that was already old at the time of Christ, that the Apostles and the early Christians were practicing Jews for many years after Pentecost and kept all the rituals and ceremonies of Judaism, that they practiced water baptism because they were Jews, that Peter and Paul both saw that the Lord intended these things should cease,"
"that the Roman and Orthodox Catholic churches retained a great deal of the Jewish rituals, that the reformers eliminated most of the rituals but retained water baptism, that it has caused great discord and persecutions between people who profess Christ, that it is so vaguely described in the Scriptures that it is difficult to believe that had Jesus intended its observation"
"He would have been so incompetent, and that, when all is said and done, it is a rather pointless thing to do in an age of true spiritual enlightenment." (CHRISTIAN BAPTISM, J.Wolfe).
Acts 19:2 He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." 3 And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Into John's baptism."
If the Baptism with the Holy Spirit is only with the Holy Spirit why did Paul ask about Baptism after the men made it clear they had never heard of the Holy Spirit. And he was solving the question of why they did not have the Holy Spirit.
JonahTorn:"If the Baptism with the Holy Spirit is only with the Holy Spirit why did Paul ask about Baptism after the men made it clear they had never heard of the Holy Spirit."
Answers to everything water baptisers say can be found free online here:
I have showed you where you can find the truth about baptism and the correct explanation of Scripture on this topic if you want to continue to follow shadows and symbols instead of the substance Christ Jesus its up to you. But not be fooled water baptism CANNOT save you.
You ignore Pauls words about the Spiritual distinction between a Baptism with water for repentance & a Baptism with the Spirit he physically participated in with the already mentioned purpose being for the Holy Spirit with these men. You ignore Jesus when he confirmed the truth and shared his Spirit. What source are you going to insted. Is it 5 point Calvinism, or maybe just a few Calvinist points?
"We would express our continued conviction that our Lord appointed no outward rite or ceremony for observance in His church. We accept every command of our Lord in what we believe to be its genuine import, as absolutely conclusive. The question of the use of outward ordinances is with us a question, not as to the authority of Christ, but as to his real meaning. We reverently believe that, as there is one Lord and one faith, so there is, under the Christian dispensation, but one baptism(Eph 4:4,5)"
"even that whereby all believers are baptized in the one Spirit into the one body. (1 Cor 12:13 RV) This is not an outward baptism with water, but a spiritual experience; not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, (1 Pet 3:21) but that inward work which, by transforming the heart and settling the soul upon Christ, brings forth the answer of a good conscience towards God, but the resurrection of Jesus Christ, in the experience of His love and power, as the risen and ascended Savior."
"No baptism in outward water can satisfy the description of the apostle, of being buried with Christ by baptism unto death. (Rom 6:4) It is with the Spirit alone that any can thus be baptized. In this experience the announcement of the Forerunner of our Lord is fulfilled, "He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire." (Matt 3:11)In this view we accept the commission of our blessed Lord as given in Matthew 28:18, 19 and 20th verses: "And Jesus came to them and spake unto them saying,"
"All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. Go ye, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you, and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."
"(RV)This commission, as we believe, was not designed to set up a new ritual under the new covenant, or to connect the initiation into a membership, in its nature essentially spiritual, with a mere ceremony of a typical character."
"Otherwise it was not possible for the Apostle Paul, who was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostle, (2 Cor 11:5) to have disclaimed that which would, in that case, have been of the essence of his commission when he wrote, "Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Gospel." (1 Cor 1:17)Whenever an external ceremony is commanded, the particulars, the mode and incidents of that ceremony, become of its essence."
"There is an utter absence of these particulars in the text before us. Which confirms our persuasion that the commission must be construed in connection with the spiritual power which the risen Lord promised should attend the witness of his apostles and of the church to Him, and which, after Pentecost, so mightily accompanied their ministry of the word and prayer,"
"that those to whom they were sent were introduced into an experience wherein they had a saving knowledge of, and living fellowship with, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." (Declaration of Faith Issued by the Richmond Conference in 1887)
"As there is one Lord and one faith, so there is one baptism, which is not the putting away the filth of the flesh but the answer of a good conscience before God, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and this baptism is a pure and spiritual thing, to wit, the baptism of the Spirit and fire, by which we are buried with him, that being washed and purged from our sins, we may walk in newness of life;"
"of which the baptism of John was a figure which was commanded for a time and not to continue for ever; as to the baptism of infants it is a mere human tradition for which neither precept nor practice is to be found in all the Scripture: Eph. 4:5, 1 Pet. 3:21, Rom. 6:4, Gal. 3:27, Col. 2:12, John 3:30, 1 Cor. 1:17." (Robert Barclay)
Baptism already covers that by being Baptism. John is said to have baptised with water but Jesus Baptised with the Holy Spirit. When the time finnaly came for the Spirit to arrive in Acts what happened? In Acts 19 Paul draws a distinction between John's Baptism and Baptism in the name of Jesus & men who were already Baptised were Baptised in Jesus name and only then recieved the Holy Spirit. The Spirit came after Baptism in Jesus name. So you make sence of what happen there. Its Acts 19:1-6.
But Paul explained Baptism by contrast to circumcision in Galations, so the comparison makes less sence in light of that. Baptism in the name of Jesus acknowledges Jesus directly and that he provides his Holy Spirit when you call and his name & are clothed in him while circumcision was about making Jew and Gentiles separate. Paul even pointed out that the Gentiles were foriegners to the covenant when circumcision was in force. Baptism in Jesus name clothes one in christ Jew or Gentile.
One Faith, One Lord, One Baptism. The Baptism of Christ (in the Holy Spirit) not of John (in water). Water baptism profits nothing it is not part of the Gospel, as Paul clearly said.
Baptism with the Holy Spirit was not merely with water as Acts 19 shows when the Holy Spirit followed Baptism in the name of Jesus. Even Cornealous was seen as remarkable in Acts 10 because God did something different there to show he would accept Gentiles no matter what any man believed. But circumsion separated Jews and Gentiles before the law. Ignore wwhat it had been would be nessessary once it became apparrent that Gentiles where accepted.
Acts 19:1-7 frames the distiction between John's Baptism verses Bapism in Jesus name and still physically Baptized 12 men again in Jesus name in response to the fact that these men had not recieved the Holy Spirit even though they had believed & had been Baptized in John's Baptism. The Holy Spirit came after the men were Baptized in Jesus name. If you do not understand the Spiritual difference between Baptism in Jesus name and
John's how can you be a trustworthy source on anything Spiritual?
Friend obviously you don't know what baptism means if you think it always must be done in water. Baptism means immerse, dip, colour, paint, etc. In Scripture we see many different baptisms: baptism in water, baptism in Spirit, baptism in the Name (POWER), baptism in fire, baptism in death, etc. The Apostles continued for a time to follow the Jewish tradition of baptising in water but they did not confuse it with the Christian baptism, i.e. in the Holy Spirit.
Based on that logic Paul must not understand. We see his difference with you in Acts 19:1-7.
Act 19:4 Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus." 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. 7 There were in all about twelve men.
Paul's Baptism question followed knowinf these men did not know about the Holy Spirit.
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
yes it is necessary. be baptized for the remission of sins. believe and be baptized and you shall be saved. baptism doth also now save us. as many of us as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.....etc. etc. the confusion has to come from our unwillingness to put scripture over our own agenda.

JonahTorn 3 years ago

Acts 19:1-3 clear distinguishes between John's baptism in water from Christ's in the Holy Spirit. I don't see what purpose that verse serves you.
themistoklisp 3 years ago
You just stoped short of the context that show Baptism in the name of Jesus was also done before the Holy Spirit arrived.

Whoever replaces Jesus Christ ANYTHING is an idolater, and you have replaced Him with.... water!

We reverently believe that, as there is one Lord and one faith, so there is, under the Christian dispensation, but one baptism(Eph 4:4,5)"
themistoklisp 3 years ago
"even that whereby all believers are baptized in the one Spirit into the one body. (1 Cor 12:13 RV) This is not an outward baptism with water, but a spiritual experience; not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, (1 Pet 3:21) but that inward work which, by transforming the heart and settling the soul upon Christ, brings forth the answer of a good conscience towards God, but the resurrection of Jesus Christ, in the experience of His love and power, as the risen and ascended Savior."
themistoklisp 3 years ago

"(RV)This commission, as we believe, was not designed to set up a new ritual under the new covenant, or to connect the initiation into a membership, in its nature essentially spiritual, with a mere ceremony of a typical character."
themistoklisp 3 years ago
"Otherwise it was not possible for the Apostle Paul, who was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostle, (2 Cor 11:5) to have disclaimed that which would, in that case, have been of the essence of his commission when he wrote, "Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Gospel." (1 Cor 1:17)Whenever an external ceremony is commanded, the particulars, the mode and incidents of that ceremony, become of its essence."
themistoklisp 3 years ago
"There is an utter absence of these particulars in the text before us. Which confirms our persuasion that the commission must be construed in connection with the spiritual power which the risen Lord promised should attend the witness of his apostles and of the church to Him, and which, after Pentecost, so mightily accompanied their ministry of the word and prayer,"

1:17." Did Jesus get circumcised to show us that we should do it? Mark 16:16 does NOT mention water.
themistoklisp 3 years ago
Baptism already covers that by being Baptism. John is said to have baptised with water but Jesus Baptised with the Holy Spirit. When the time finnaly came for the Spirit to arrive in Acts what happened? In Acts 19 Paul draws a distinction between John's Baptism and Baptism in the name of Jesus & men who were already Baptised were Baptised in Jesus name and only then recieved the Holy Spirit. The Spirit came after Baptism in Jesus name. So you make sence of what happen there. Its Acts 19:1-6.
JonahTorn 3 years ago
Why are you asking about circumcision?
JonahTorn 3 years ago
Because someone in the video said that he got baptised because Jesus did. So I ask did he get circumcised too? JESUS WAS!
themistoklisp 3 years ago
But Paul explained Baptism by contrast to circumcision in Galations, so the comparison makes less sence in light of that. Baptism in the name of Jesus acknowledges Jesus directly and that he provides his Holy Spirit when you call and his name & are clothed in him while circumcision was about making Jew and Gentiles separate. Paul even pointed out that the Gentiles were foriegners to the covenant when circumcision was in force. Baptism in Jesus name clothes one in christ Jew or Gentile.
JonahTorn 3 years ago
One Faith, One Lord, One Baptism. The Baptism of Christ (in the Holy Spirit) not of John (in water). Water baptism profits nothing it is not part of the Gospel, as Paul clearly said.
themistoklisp 3 years ago
Baptism with the Holy Spirit was not merely with water as Acts 19 shows when the Holy Spirit followed Baptism in the name of Jesus. Even Cornealous was seen as remarkable in Acts 10 because God did something different there to show he would accept Gentiles no matter what any man believed. But circumsion separated Jews and Gentiles before the law. Ignore wwhat it had been would be nessessary once it became apparrent that Gentiles where accepted.
JonahTorn 3 years ago
Acts 19:1-7 frames the distiction between John's Baptism verses Bapism in Jesus name and still physically Baptized 12 men again in Jesus name in response to the fact that these men had not recieved the Holy Spirit even though they had believed & had been Baptized in John's Baptism. The Holy Spirit came after the men were Baptized in Jesus name. If you do not understand the Spiritual difference between Baptism in Jesus name and
John's how can you be a trustworthy source on anything Spiritual?
JonahTorn 3 years ago
Friend obviously you don't know what baptism means if you think it always must be done in water. Baptism means immerse, dip, colour, paint, etc. In Scripture we see many different baptisms: baptism in water, baptism in Spirit, baptism in the Name (POWER), baptism in fire, baptism in death, etc. The Apostles continued for a time to follow the Jewish tradition of baptising in water but they did not confuse it with the Christian baptism, i.e. in the Holy Spirit.
themistoklisp 3 years ago
Based on that logic Paul must not understand. We see his difference with you in Acts 19:1-7.
JonahTorn 3 years ago
Act 19:4 Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus." 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. 7 There were in all about twelve men.
Paul's Baptism question followed knowinf these men did not know about the Holy Spirit.

You guys need to stick with scripture insteed of asking people that don't know much pertaining to the Bible.
Jesus said "Believe and be baptized and you shall be saved". Mark 16:16
Apostle Peter said "baptism doth also now save us".
1st of Peter 3:21
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:38
