Whoa sweet!! Single axles aren't so common in Recology's fleet! Loved the revving..what was with the packer being stopped always at the halfway position it seemed?? Was he just not packing the whole way since there was so little in each cart, and not enough to fill the hopper?
That was pretty short footage, hope we get to see more next time! 5/5
@Trashman242 Thanks a bunch! Actually, they have got a few of these single axlers. I believe that was the reason he left it at halfway, makes sense, or else just pack every 20 carts LOL. Yeah I know it was short, but I had a tip on the Multitask he gave me, and I didn't want to miss it, so I left right away.
i beleve that recology is now going back to lodal (if they are still around) as when i was at recology's yard they had a few what looked like very new lodals painted in the new livery but i am not sure
Judging by the contents falling out of each cart, I reckon a monthly compost collection would still be too frequent, but they have to keep it weekly for the potential odour and vermin issues. Also I just want to clarify, everything is collected weekly there right (like anywhere services by NorCal/Recology)? Cool to get another rare look at one of these unique Lodals with the enormous tailgate! The code system is neat too; you'd think they'd use O instead of Y for an organics truck though???
@MitchellM15 Yes, everywhere in SF is collected weekly, with the exception of commercial customers which can have it weekly every other 2 days, or daily. Thanks!, their code system is very weird, so i'm not sure.
@MitchellM15 I barely saw anything dumped into the truck at all! In some Recology areas not everything is weekly, but it's weekly in many areas. I don't know Y they use this numbering system either. LOL!!!!
@RecologySMCKid This is one of those lighter routes, and judging by the area--apartment flats... which have a really low rate of composting anyway. Because it's lighter or if the areas is high and tight, you'll see these smaller Lodals. Usual routes use a full sized T-28 Lodal or a Heil Multitask SL [for the Labrie routes which can't be replaced by a Lodal].
@MitchellM15 They've actually dropped the alphabetical route labeling for a numerical one in most cases now. Since we've got two Recology subs servicing San Francisco, the new labeling spans fleet wide, 000-199 are Sunset Scavenger's split trucks, 200-399 various Golden Gate trucks, and 400-499 are Sunset Scavenger's organics trucks. Specialty trucks: front end, roll-off, bulk + rear-load, RSS's comm. RLs, satellites, still however have a letter before or after the number.
@RecologySMCKid They don't. The city will if they possibly come check. Wether residents decide to pull out their compost bin is up to them. It's not forced, but recommended. Otherwise, compost and recycling collections are free and unlimited, so it's best to take advantage of the blue and green if your family produces a lot of waste. Cuts down on the cost of the black container.
I think it's about time this guy gets one of the spare split Lodals and join the rest of the club, it seems like many of Lodal singles drivers are phasing out their trucks for the extra splits laying around with the faster tippers, deeper hoppers, etc.
@r6man2 Me niether really, nice and small, easy to negotiate the tight corners. I'd probably prefer the larger six axle 28 yard version though. I wonder where mines went to. =/
Nice find! I think I'd get tired of dumping empty bins all day... I understand that they stink if not emptied frequently, but would still be frustrating.
Very Weird Tipper!!!

@caltrain2 They have a few, you're right. Heil is mostly dominant for most commercial pickups though, (Fls, RLs, etc.) I could be wrong, ACX

RecologySMCKid 3 weeks ago
@RecologySMCKid Both Sunset Scavenger and Golden Gate. There are plenty of brand new ones just a year or two old; some only months old.

the reson the carts are out every week is other wise residents would be charged with a large fine which is not a very good thing

@caltrain2 Why would they charge a fine?
