Just throwing in out there but Imaichi is in charge of the battle sequences in the black rock shooter anime that just started airing,he also directed and storyboarded the OP,any imaichi fan should check it out,it's definatly Imaichi-ish.
i think it also might be worth mentioning that much of Imaishii's visual style (the black shading for example) seems to have its roots in american comic books (Gibbons comes to mind). Again, great stuff.
The thing about Hiroyuki Imaishi art/animation work is that he doesn't make it look like an typical anime he makes it more like a cartoon with many things flying around it is like he having fun drawing the frames and also he changed the face of anime in my opinion
I don't understand why anyone likes Hiroyuki Imaishi style the characters look like crap and he's designs are just laughable in there lameness. I will say that he's really resourceful dude but that's it.
these are some very awesome vids, very informative and I enjoyed it.Whats killin me though is that I cant figure out the name of that song that plays during the Imaishi vid!It so contagious..I love it!
Imaishi is one of my idols and I'm glad you guys spotlighted him. I love the energy, humour, and "cartoony" feel to his animation.....and like someone else said its too bad Takeshi Koike wasn't featured.
As much as I like Hiroyuki Imaishi, one of my favorite animators in Gainax, I think you should have mentioned Takeshi Koike, with his much more fluid and shady animations who also excels in such epic proportions. This is just a personal opinion, though. (I'm also a little upset that You Yoshinari wasn't mentioned yet either, hahah.)
@kidhero95 1hr is ultimately not a lot of time to cover the sakuga world. We really wanted to show the Redline trailer at the end of the panel for instance, but alas :)
@neilworms1 Toshiyuki Inoue is also a great "add-on" to the list of the animators, too, who has drawn clean and almost perfect animation. Though, the past is the past, and like what is said, 50 min isn't enough to explain much of the sakuga universe. However, that's not to say that the animators that have been shown are legendary, and is really a necessity to mention for the "outsiders" of sakuga.
it's probably going to take a lot of time before anime fans will start caring about animation (as opposed to just art) and listening to people who realize how much it can affect the overall quality and impact of an animated work instead of people who say that writing is all that matters and caring about visuals is shallow but this is a commendable effort I think...
whats the name of the song

and oh yeah, I feel Imaishi knows how to use a limited budget better than anyone...I guess I'm biased because his drawings have so much appeal to me.

Gurren Lagann's and Dead Leaves we're my favorite drawn anime. I really love the style they used for animating some of the key scenes.

@kidhero95 I also really wanted to show Hiroyuki Okiura too. There is too much good sakuga to show in 50 mins!

@kidhero95 Yeah totally, he'd be good to showcase with Okiura as an intensely "realist" animator.
