WOW great video as usual! I have a question and it may sound dumb but im curious. What happens if say a mosiquto lays eggs in the trap or say a tree frog? Do the mosquito larva live or do the tadpoles live in the fluid or does the fluid kill them as well and digest them? I figure either way it would benifit the plant because if it kills them then there is another meal and if not then it would absorbe their waste as they grow in it. Do you know which happens? again great video!!!
@lama8888 i haven't seen mosquitoes in this plant but it's because it's not in the wild. some species will have 'squites living in them. tadpoles... i'm betting they'd get eaten like the fish and toad
@knifeguru350 there's a line inside most pitchers, with some exceptions that can fill to the rim, that is a boundary between the lower and upper part of the pitcher. the lower has enormous numbers of very small pores that are visible. this section can be filled completely however don't let the liquid touch the smooth upper section. the pores will release digestive enzymes from any pore once prey falls in
What a beautiful permistone.... topped the bulbous bottom of my Truncatas pitchers today with some water..... Awsome video and great growing. Is this plant under artificial lighting?
@BloodyAbyss1216 Mabey I misunderstood, but I believe the flat uppersection of the leaf does photosynthesis, but the the pitcher ALSO photosynthesizes.
@Killerspider762 yes, the pitcher does photosynthesize but the pseudo leaf, that large leaf-like flat part, lives for a very long time after the pitcher dies and does the vast amount of photosynthesizing. the plant turned its real leaf into the enormously complicated pitcher
@BloodyAbyss1216 give it a shot. i'm growing this one up in my living room. humidity isn't a problem but i do keep it in a deep bowl of waterlogged moss that i flush often. the pot is in standing water over 4 inches deep
Amazing I have a cute juvenile truncata

just wondering most sites i did research on says to not fill the traps with water as this will dilute the digestive liquid

thats interesting how the pitcher is the part that photosynthesizes. i might try my luck with a truncata now
