  • Wow! Thanks so much for putting this on youtube. Anyone know where they were flying so I can get an idea of where the Tornado went though? Maby some street names would help. thanks!

  • my dad was there when that happen im glad that he was not there at that time my aunt and family was there too they made it out thanks goodness

  • First tornado video and damage video was shot by television station KGWN. The station had just converted from film to ENG and the news dept was in it's afternoon editorial meeting when a sales person ran into the news room and announced that a tornado had touched down at the airport putting everyone into action. This is actually the third tornado to be caught on ENG equipment

  • @uwtitanfan what were the first two?

  • @AJTwister97 Second tornado clip was someones home video which looks like it was shot up on Pershing Blvd by Carey Jr high

  • @uwtitanfan Upon research I did, this is the second tornado to be filmed on video tape. The first was on April 30, 1978 in Piedmont, Oklahoma. The tornado was small, but it was a first.

  • @AJTwister97 you missed Wichita Falls TX, 4-10-79. both on portable video and 16mm film. And then if you really want to be accurate, you could also try and count tornadoes caught by television station studio cameras that were pointed out the studio doors. Even that number I don't know.

  • @uwtitanfan How can I forget Wichita Falls? I have many videos and pictures of it.(I did an analysis on it when I was in third grade. I'm in ninth now.) As for the television station cameras, I think I saw the '64 tornado on live broadcast. In fact, here's a link:

    Maybe this was the first?

    B.T.W., here's the Piedmont tornado:

  • @uwtitanfan

According to the guide to Tornado Video Classics both clips of the tornado were from KYCU, which was the call sign that KGWN was using in 1979.

  • @ColonelAngus75 The TVC info is a little off, the second clip is a home video. I worked at KGWN for three years and have seen the raw first generation video of this tornado and there's a noticeable difference in picture quality (three tube saticon camera vs single trinicon camera) between the two clips you can't see here.

  • @uwtitanfan

Ah, okay. Actually looking at the two clips on the TVC DVD just now the difference in quality is noticeable, never really paid that any attention before until you mentioned it.

  • Thank you for posting this. It's great to finally see!
