The truth is, for those that want to get better.....rotational should apply to the torso only. The proper swing consists of linear movement of the bat from load to contact. The torso's initial movement is linear and begins to rotate causing maximum torque transference to the bat head. The weight is COMPLETELY linear. The bat obviously becomes rotational after contact. If you listen to this video you will have the slowest bat on the team.....better start your swing the second the pitcher rocks
haha....I guess if contact is your only goal you would be worried about how long your bat is "in the zone" Most people care about how sharply they hit the ball. There is NO COMPARISON to the amount of torque you can apply to the bat while using linear as opposed to rotational. You should study kinetic energy...."It's a timing thing"?? Really einstein??...EVERYTHING in sports is a timing thing. You can't make someone that has no skill in relation to timing a good performer!!
Ok to be honest its all about extention.. you can have a linear bat path and get good extention on the ball through the zone and be very successful.. looking at the swing there has to be a linear move with youre hands and a rotational move with youre lower half.. strickly rotational is more of a "spin" generating no power with youre lower half, getting long with youre swing, and dropping youre barrel.. its funny in the video when hes explaining it the bat head is pointed towards the ground..
here's a guy who is talking some sense.. well said. this guy is rare among coaches. get his phone number.. don't lose it! you will improve with this man helping you.
I was taught rotational and I've had the highest batting average on all of my teams since I was 12 (I'm 18 now and play college softball). My coach recruited me specifically for my swing but when I got to college she taught nothing but liner hitting. I hate it with a passion! I don't feel no control, the timing is hit or miss, and it feels weak as hell. I miss my old swing and I'm hitting in the 7 spot which is a slap in the face coming from hitting in the 3 or 4 my whole damn career.
If you want to know that this guy is most certainly right on in his analysis of what big leaguers do, just look at the video. There is plenty of home runs on MLB.com. Virtually no big league players swing down on the ball, or A to B. Pujols, Cano, Hamilton, etc etc. They all use rotational mechanics and swing slightly up through the ball. You are a blind if you cannot see it. Video does not lie people!!!!
hey viejo, the Rotational Hitting is better than linear. Thanks for you Video. I am using the Rotational Hitting teached by you. I live in Colombia and I play softball. Thanks.
that is why you cock your wrist in linear hitting to keep from rolling over. You have much more power in linear and that is what all mlb players are taught. I play with kids that go to maple woods college, the same college that taught albert pujols, which was a linear swing
@HaloReachBeast83 never thought I'd see the day when a 12 year old thinks he knows more than an adult. especially when this adult actually knows what he is talking about! a linear swing allows you 1 point of contact. as the video said, your timing has to be perfect to hit it. in rotational by getting the bat on the plane early in the swing (the "loop" thing), you can now hit the ball anywhere from your back leg to out in front, like he shows us. you're successful at age 12 cuz the pitching sucks
are you high you stay in the zone longer with a linear swing.... but coming from a guy who cant even line his hands up i guess you are the genius about everything batting about baseball, oh and you favor rotational

Nice vid, thanks! Rotational hitting allows for limitless power...linear limits everyone's power.
