Do you know when Istanbul was actually renamed?? Even at the beginnings of the 20th century the name was Constantinople not by Greeks but by the Ottomans even Turks later. They preserved the name(which btw is not the first name of the region) and tried at least to respect some parts of the history of this great city. Turkey is a beautiful country with wonderful culture. I am Greek 100% and i love my country but Turks are my Brothers and neighbors and i respect them in every way. Hate to break the news to you, but Istanbul was called Konstantiyye by the Ottoman government up until the early 1920s, and the new name İstanbul still comes from the Greek, "εις ταν πόλιν," which is pronounced in Turkish as "is tan bolin," meaning word for word "to the city."
