  • Stone Temple Pilots - Meat Plow! :D

  • pseudo guitar heroes arent able to play nirvana nicely ... :P

  • Hey Andy!! Can you plug a distortion pedal to an amp without an effects loop.??? If you can please tell me how!! Cheers!! :D

  • @KurtTheGuitarPlayer I'm not Andy, but I can help. You don't need an effects loop to plug a pedal. What you do is you plug the guitar into the pedal's input jack. Then connect the pedal's output jack to the amp's input where you'd normally plug in the guitar. This position is called "in front of the amp" because the signal from the guitar will go to the pedal, and then to the amp. Effects loops put your pedals between the preamp and power amp (two parts of the amp before the speaker).

  • @zdkezios Thanks, man. Yo' great!! :D

  • 2:54 Nirvana - Serve The Servants

  • I tried so many distortion pedals- classic ones, weird ones , boutique..and DS1 is still the best i have ever tried. Even tho i don˙t play through dist pedal i always have one DS1 for benchmark when someone brings me "that all singing all dancing new pedal". And you guess, DS1 always win.

  • My first pedal. Still very palatable when used right. I keep my tone real low right before you hear the sharpness and the distortion high before it gets flubby. Match the volume to the amp and you have a nice distortion. I use it as a second flavor of dirty channel on my Marshall JCM2000. I can even use it with the dirty channel to make my solos have near infinite sustain with little effect on the overall sound (with the distortion cranked, not as a low distortion boost).

  • Finally this guy isn't talking withmhis pedo voice

  • Whitesnake? Really?

  • this was my first pedal. awesome and simple

  • its one of kurt cobain's pedals also..

  • Too fuzzy 4 me. Sounds aweful through a solid state amp. Not too bad through a high dollar super clean amp.

  • try this watch?v=k3DWVy7G8BM

  • still of the nightがくるとはwww

  • You think this pedal sounds so awesome, then you realize it's going through a Deluxe Reverb on the edge of breakup. Makes sense now.

  • meatplow!!! stp

  • that intro alone sold me on this pedal. AMAZING!

  • Andy makes me think I need everything he plays. Then I get it and realize I suck.

  • My mom has this pedal

  • Y U NO KEEP PLAYING SERVE THE SERVANTS? Bitch, keep playing it :(

  • fuck haters this is a good distortion :D

  • dont buy it, if anything buy ds-2 from boss (turbo distortion), its a good cheap distortion, and you have the ds-1 mode + turbo mode available

  • Serve the servents :)

  • i just got this today and i fucking LOVE it!!!!!

  • I just bought this one, I totally love it.

  • What amp did you use with this pedal?

  • I hate this pedal!!!!!

  • What the hell is the name of this song i have looked everywhere for the name of the song in the beggining

  • @TheSoadisthebest

    Still of the night Whitesnack.

  • @TheSoadisthebest I think it's Still of the night by Whitesnake.

  • I have been using DS-1 since 1995, and it is still my the distortion for solo.

  • Kurt Cobain pedal

  • If 3:16 had a vagina, I would fuck it.

  • tenacious D TONE!..

  • MEATPLOW!!

  • How little gain could I get out of this with the 'DIST' knob on 0?

  • @TheRealRayJ it still gives pretty much, you should consider a overdrive

  • Too bad this pedal is a piece of shit and gives awful feedback and his through my beautiful twin reverb.

  • The background song is Still of the Night by Whitesnake.

  • God the song in the background is brutal, what is it??

  • Can you guy do a review on the Boss Metal Zone pedal..? I want toknow how get awesome pantera setting

  • @pantera2004hellbound tHE mETAL zONE isn't really the best pedal to get a Pantera sound goin'. ..unless you use a separate EQ pedal with it...then maybe it could work ;)

  • @pantera2004hellbound maybe check out the mxr dimebag pedal

  • this pedal is awesome!

  • pro guitar demos> World music supply >B)

  • nirvana rules

  • anything sounds good when Andy plays through it, but this pedal... well not even Andy can help this thing...

  • My first effects pedal. Thing is a monster.

  • @TheFunnyZach ty ill check it out!

  • i was wondering if the ds 1 is gud for the kind of punk rock stuff i play...e.g green day, blink182, sex pistols etc seems prtty sick just wanted advice tho ;)

  • @ruddersfilms96 well, if your on a tight budget, this would work, however, if you are willing to save up some dough, the 'JHS Angry Charlie' is a great sounding, very tube like distortion. Yes it is $200 dollars. but if you only get one distortion pedal, that's the one to get. Check out the review done by Gearmanndude here on youtube.

  • These pedals are great to mod!

  • Match this with a tubescreamer and you've got it goin on

  • I love many pedals but it always goes back to this one. Such a classic.

  • my ds 1 is awsome/. mostly play metal now but every now and again i gotta break it out and play it.

  • is there much difference between this and the blues driver?

  • @topdog2328 The name says everything. The DS-1 is simply an amazing distortion, perfect for a great crunch, good compressed sounds or you can crank it up for an heavyer tone. The Blues Driver is more like a lead tipe of distortion, preety much a different distortion. Depending on wich type of music you play, it's just your choice.

  • @topdog2328 Blues Driver is more an overdrive, although at high gain settings, I think it has more distortion than the DS-1. I think the Blues Driver is a lot thicker sounding. I use the Blues Driver to push my mildly dirty 2010 Mesa Dual Rectifier and it's the best I think I ever sounded. But I could go to a gig with the Blues Driver as my main distortion sound, its dynamic range is super wide!!

  • whats the name of the first song he plays?

  • @NeutralSnap Meatplow by Stone Temple Pilots.

  • @NeutralSnap still of the night - whitesnake

  • It really does real Whitesnake tone.

  • It seems like EVERYTHING sounds awesome when is played by Andy.

  • Serve the servants.

  • actually meant stp lol

  • I use this amazing pedal for years now. The paint is only lost on a side. and damn how many times did i tap my foot on it.

    best of the best!

  • i AM BUYING THIS PEDAL BECAUSE ANDY IS A FUCKING KING, AND HE PLAYED NIRVANA - Serve the Servants :))) too bad i cant order it trough this site, cause i live far faar away...

  • Isn't the level just a volume control, to match the clean sound from your amp? If your switching between the two?

  • This is a great pedal. I'm really satisfied with it. It's great with tube amps and can be used for a variety of things.

  • EVERYONE needs to own a DS-1. that is all.

  • Cheap? I paid almost $90 USDs for my DS-1 back in 1979! That's like $500 in todays dollars.

  • @1971SuperLead there 50$ new and u can get them online for like 20

  • @1971SuperLead musicians friend has them for $49.99 and at my local music store they got it for $98 CAN.

  • will it have any sense to buy this for a modeling amp like peavey vypyr ? but i think its still a good idea cause maybe i get sometime in the future a tube amp, and then i would regret that i buyed that cheaper digitech or some behringer toy

  • first i was all over behringer and digitech, now i fell in love with the real deal, the boss ds1, now i understand why to pay more for quality, sounds orgasmic, (hey can i use this pedal with a peavey vypyr 15W ) ?

  • This is a pedal everyone should have at least once in their life. Thank you for showing a great pedal that everyone can afford.

  • i think mine is bit messed up....when it comes to the volume level (meaning i have to turn it all the way up to get equal sound) but despite that is sounds too smooth and nasty for me to honestly complain

  • Wow, what a nice demo! Thanks for Meatplow and Serve the servants! :)

  • its a beautiful sounding pedal, the saturation is just perfect, its my ideal distortion sound, however just doesnt have enough of it in it, so im getting two and gunna cascading them bad boys. beautiful pedal. truly beautiful.

  • I like it because it's cheap

  • I have one. I love it.

  • gotta buy this thing

  • For me (and this is just my opinion) I play it through my dirty channel as a boost with a decimator infront of it to keep the buzz down

  • And "Serve The Servants"...Hot Damn!!!

  • are there any all tube pedals on the market?

  • @StephenFiorentini

i think this pedal called a tonebone by radial is tube

  • seeerve the servaaaaants ooooh noooo

  • 3:36 sounds like doug aldrich!

  • i dont really dig this pedal, just got it, and have to say that everyone whos thinking of metal zone or this, should get metal zone, you can get more sounds from that, and it has alot better harmonics for squeling and pinch harmonics. i have behringer UM100 wich is a copy of metal zone, its cheap and sounds great! and yeah i got an tube amp. i may use this one for bluesyrock and that sorta stuff. it would sound alot better with equalizer in front of it tho :p

  • STP!!!!!! =)

  • ive got marshall amps and i can never get mine to sound like this....it just squeels with feedback no matter how little gain or level i have dialed in....i even have feedback surpressors and they dont work on this pedal....any tips?

  • TO EVERYONE LOOKING AT THIS PEDAL:

ANY pedal sounds better on a tube amp than a solid state.

That goes ESPECIALLY for this pedal.

GREAT sound through a tube amp.

  • @ajdambro Silly comment, what doesn't sound better through a tube amp. :P

  • @ajdambro For me the Boss MT2 sound better on a transistor amp than a tube amp.

Too much trebble and high freq on my tube amp. =/

  • @BorisDono dont worry , its proven that transistor amps are really consistent and have a great tone at metal, tube amps are sought after mostly for that overdrive vintage sound

  • @AntiEmoMetalhead92 you're kidding me right? engl powerball? peavey 6505? mesa dual rectifier? bugera 6262? blackstar series one? marshall jcm? soldano slo? diezel vh4? h&k switchblade? orange thunderverb? all are absolutely huge sounding for metal...

  • @BorisDono Try an EQ pedal , perhaps ?

  • andy would this be a good pedal for iroon maiden, judas priest, nirvana, and that kinda stuff?

  • What are good settings for thrash metal(mainly megadeth) on this metal?

  • Whitesnake & Nirvana! I like this video!

  • Just FYI to anyone who may see this, DS-1s are great for voltage sagging. I had a stock one for a while and wasn't terribly pleased w/ it, but I distinctly remember one time kicking it on and thinking, "Wow, that sounds way better than normal!" Found out the battery was dying. Live and learn~shrug~ :)

(I still got rid of it for a Rat 2, tho... then I got rid of the Rat 2 for an OCD, and now I'm happy:P lol)

  • @yobhsiFehT Agreed. I have mine hooked up to my Pedal Power 2+'s sag output @ 4 volts. It really brings out a smoother, fuzzier tone. Kinda like a less sustained Big Muff. I find that the stock 9 volt is way to harsh, even when I back off the tone.

  • In the still of the nigt... =DDDD

  • I HAVE MT2 BUT I WANT DS1!!!!

  • you HAVE to do a nirvana cover when showing off a DS1 or DS2

  • @VictorC53 instead of whitesnake? i dont think so

  • what would be good for like green day, blink 182 settings on this pedal

  • Serve the Servants!!

  • I run my pedal through a fender reverb amp and a JT Slimmer which gets me the closest thing to a Joe Satriani sound I can get for the price.

  • is this pedal good for digital amps too??

  • is the ds-1 a digital or analog distortion circuit? thanks

  • @ironzeppelin44 Analog

  • When Andy says "Real dirty" I jizz in my pants

  • what would be good setting for the pedal for like punk like green day or blink 182 and good charolette what is setting for that

  • @Ty13rlikespie tone a bit before 12 o clock and crank that distortion like a bitch to the max!

  • Hi Rocker!!

Boss DS-1 Has 60% Off NOW NOW!!!!!!

    with the Free Shipping!!

    at w w w . cheapbuy-online . c o m / boss-ds1

    quickly in this month!

  • yeahaa SERVE THE SERVANTS !!!! =) i have one. DS1 rocks!!!

  • Hows the sustain on this? if i were to use for Blues?

  • If people would actually turn knobs on their amps they may be able to get decent tones out of this pedal! The thing to remember is that the circuit in this pedal is very similar to the Big Muff. I find that its better to use the DS-1 as a fuzz type pedal rather than a metal pedal. Creamy leads, fat chords, or raw aggressive rhythm playing.

  • Please don't buy a metal zone. seriously.

  • @maydecember513 why ??

  • @dunavidrava because it sounds like a bunch of cicadas singing

  • @dunavidrava go for the power stack. its like a metal zone on crack

  • HOW YOU SETTINGS THE DELUXE RI???HELP ME

  • Serve the Servants!

  • Guys, the reason it sounds better than your DS-1, if I had to hazard a guess, is probably because he's using a good tube amp. Vital stuff.

  • how did they get it to freaking sound like that

  • @TheSchoolsux345 ITS THE TUBES!!!

  • @Fernandez3995 Yes. This is for rock what mt-2 is for metal. Great for Nirvana-like tone.

  • Would it make sense it if I had this along with my mt-2 metal zone? I want to get it.

  • I have this baby on my pedal board, sometimes i like to bypass my Digitech RP-55 and use this pedal straight to the amp. I love it.

  • hi andy, is this jap or taiwan?

  • serve the servants all the way

  • What a horrible sounding pedal. Very over rated. Not enough mid or bass. I guess if you have one of those high dollar tube amps you could coax out some half decent sounds. Only hope is the utra mod which brings the price over one bill easy. The whiteface reissue rat sounds nice. When are you going to review the new MXR 78 Custom Badass pedal? At 80 bucks it has to be much much better.

  • Hi,

I bought this pedal few days ago,

when i connected it on my amp, clean tone work fine,

but when i press the pedal nothing changes.

    Any help?

  • @DusanRadovanovic ^Check your batteries and check if you've led a cable from the 'input' to your guitar and a cable from your amp to 'output'. This should be the problem normally, if not, take it back to the shop!

  • Still of the night

  • fuck yeah serve the servants

  • By the way, Andy, why don't you do PROCO RAT PEDALS demo. think it'd be great

  • i like how at 1:00 you can see a green TS-10 on the floor lol

  • stp meatplow!!!

  • I love PGS demos, but they're almost unfair cause Andy can make ANYTHING sound good.

  • Was the first tune an STP song?

  • @donofly its whitesnake "still of the night"

  • @donofly yeah 'meatplow' by STP at 1.40

  • @aektzis91 Thanks! thats what i thought it was...

  • Turn the Tone to 10/11 o' clock then the level 2 o' clock and last turn the dist to 2 o' clock and LETS ROCK!

  • what's the name of the first tune being played?

  • @LfunkeyA Still of the Night by Whitesnake.

  • Beautiful tone at the 4 minute mark, great review.

  • I still have one that I bought in 1996. works like a champ still.

  • Still of the Night!

  • Now this is how to review a pedal!. Start playing awesomely first, then explain.

  • The DS1 is deffinatly a no brainer if you're looking for a cheaper distortion pedal. They're build like a tank and you can get just about any type of dirt out of them.

  • Does anyone think this would work with an SD1? and if so whats the best way to set them up?

  • FIRST RIFF MEATPLOW BY STP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Trick to making this pedal sound good is using it with a tube amp. Solid state amps with DSP effects and whatnot don't get along with Boss pedals very well.

  • The easiest pedal I've ever used in a recording studio

  • they're not going to sound like that unless you have a tube amp. these sound like shit i think if you don't have a tube amp.

  • Whitesnake! Still of the Night!!!

  • this pedel is only decent with Keeley mods

  • Stiiiiill of the night :DDD

  • nice playing of meat plow! and serve the servants! for the 3rd demo i thought for a second you were gonna go into "it aint like that" by alice. nevermind.

  • the hell!!! 2:57 Serve the servants- Nirvana :D

  • I wonder what you guys could do with an SD-1

  • 0_0 perfect!

  • Song at the beginning is "Meat Plow" by Stone Temple Pilots

  • @Zakaleth NO!! its Still of The Night by Whitesnake

  • what song is that at the beginning?

  • is this pedal fits the pop punk music ?

  • @aditsetan No, i think that maybe just running it through an amps distortion would be good for pop-punk, or better yet, not at all, and dont play pop-punk :)

  • @DaMnMeSsEdUpKeYbOaRd good man
