mostly because it gives australia a chance to play against some good competition rather than play against teams in oceania. it might be easier in oceania, but even if it is, it's not good for australia in the long run if we want to be competitive against the best of the world.

It might take a few years... maybe more, but Australia will improve ten-fold! The greatest competition Australia had before now were friendly matches and 1 or 2 tough world cup qualifying games every 4 years. Now the Australian national team and club teams can actually compete in international tournaments... You don't really know what you're talking about.
