Guys, Kris Norris is melodic metal, Syn is metalcore, you can't go around comparing them. Sure, they fall in the same branch as metal, but they're not completely the same. And @IdRatherbeDeaddd, that's how some guitarists think, sadly. Technicality isn't all as to playing guitar. You have to feel your music, and understand why's this part here and that part there. It's all theory and soul, not apreggios and scales and sweeping. It's all in the feeling.

I think Synyster Gates is decent, but extremely overrated by all these mainstream 13 year olds who don't know anything about guitar. And it makes me sick to think that someone with such brilliant talent as Michael Angelo Batio could be so mechanical with his music. What a waste. But Kris Norris has as much skill with songwriting and melody as he does with Technicality, if not more so. I have a huge amount of respect for him because of that, because that takes a different kind of talent.

@ACrum615 Yeah well, Synyster is one of my favourite guitarists alongside Jesper and Bjorn from In Flames. He is able to write emotional music and he's very versatile too. His disadvantages are his sloppiness live and his rather amateur approach to writing heavier music.
The thing i like about Kris Norris is he puts so much melody and emotion into his playing, even when he's doing his fast solos, that's just all too rare nowadays.

If you start a band, your gonna play shit that your used to hearing. DC and other metro areas like that were notorious for punk-influenced bands, especially in the mind-1990s when DH first got together.
as you go on, your thoughts will change from touring and your music will too. I can almost guarantee you their music style changed because they toured Europe and liked what they heard.

Eh, it's certainly more popular now than ever, but relative to the trash like T-Pain it barely has a presence. You're right though, DH isn't even as popular as a lot of the metalcore acts out there and should (though I LOVE AILD almost as much as DH).
I saw something that described The Eternal Return as having the aggression/speed of Hidden Hands, the melody/songwriting of Undoing Ruin, and the technicality/musicianship of Deliver Us.
If they can deliver, it'll be probably the best album ever.

@ACrum615 Yeah well, Synyster is one of my favourite guitarists alongside Jesper and Bjorn from In Flames. He is able to write emotional music and he's very versatile too. His disadvantages are his sloppiness live and his rather amateur approach to writing heavier music.

the HxC punk thing just came from the era.
If you start a band, your gonna play shit that your used to hearing. DC and other metro areas like that were notorious for punk-influenced bands, especially in the mind-1990s when DH first got together.
as you go on, your thoughts will change from touring and your music will too. I can almost guarantee you their music style changed because they toured Europe and liked what they heard.

songs like "With A Thousand Words To Say But One" didn't have amazing shredding solos. darkest hour will still do fine. I will say, I said "MOTHERFUCKER" out loud when I read that he left. Darkest Hour was always great but after their recent cd i thought they were going to become a top metal band. i have no idea why they arent extremely popular already...

I mean really alot of darkest hour's songs on Undoing Ruin were still badass without his solos, although he was still in it. metalcore is pretty popular now in the metal genre. bands like as i lay dying and other bands are so much more popular yet darkest hour is way better than them. this is an opnion but in terms of instrumentals they are more complex. some people say john's vox are boring but theyre different,good

Eh, it's certainly more popular now than ever, but relative to the trash like T-Pain it barely has a presence. You're right though, DH isn't even as popular as a lot of the metalcore acts out there and should (though I LOVE AILD almost as much as DH).
I saw something that described The Eternal Return as having the aggression/speed of Hidden Hands, the melody/songwriting of Undoing Ruin, and the technicality/musicianship of Deliver Us.
If they can deliver, it'll be probably the best album ever.
