i wouldnt be using GB if it wasn't for you tutorials...and your settings work great for all kinds of music, not just pop songs.. thanks so much! subscribing!
@GaragebandandBeyond Well, while I was watching it. But then I realized you used the AAC encoder. I'd still go with the 16 bit lossless mixdown, personally. But my apologies.
If you import a song from iTunes and edit it in garageband and save the changes you made does saving it change the song in your iTunes library for example if i edit a song from my iTunes library and save when exiting garageband does it change the file in my iTunes library??
Why not just use this PeakLimiter on the original project master track? Why create a separate master project? And in the original project, keep levels down?
In my recordings, I always have problems with dynamics... soft parts are way too quiet and then that one loud part will totally blow into the red zone and distort. So I used a PeakLimiter on thos individual tracks with minus a few db and that seemed to work but overall, I don't feel like I'm really doing this right... what do you think?
Hey lewin, I have a question. I'm doing all that you said in the vid, but my song is still not loud enough! i want it to be as loud as every other song in iTunes ( just like everyone else does, that's why this video was made) and i can't shove the peak limiter too high or it distorts the track, you know? My actual GB project is set at 0 db, and all the instruments are low so it never touches the red. then i put in a news project, and add peak limiter, but it''s just not close enough.
Hi, I have a problem with garageband. I have a karaoke music, but every time when I record my voice, the karaoke music quality changes. How can I keep the karaoke music as it is, but change my own voice accordingly?
is there anyway to do it without the peak limiter? right now im working on this song that has a lot of intentional distortion and the peak limiter fucks it all up.
hey lewin today i stumbled upon a much easier way to get the proper volume...
choose your track after its in itunes, and go to file>get info>options and set your volume. im not an expert but if you could confirm it will work that'd be great.
i recorded an interview on my macbook pro using garage band and a mic. (i think i chose "podcast", "no effects", and chose my usb mic as the source.) but the volume on the final product is low. how can i increase the volume of something i've already recorded?
ok i do this and if i have a track that is panned to the right it isnt panned to the right when i drop the AIFF file in a new window. please help! i cant figure this out
I found great result by using the peak limiter. One more question, I saw that I was able to use it while recording the vocal to increase the gain as oppose exporting the track and then importing the in anew project. This allowed me to just raise the vocal. Do you see anything wrong with this method? Thanks for saving me a couple hundred dollars for the pre amp and compressor.
I use to use peak limiter but I find If I can eliminate peaks in each actual track which is a tedious process, over and over again to see where I can reduce frequencies, pan or reduce volume in a track, it helps the over all volume increase. Lot of staring at the green to see how far it shoots up and try to get an even volume. By not using limiter or compressor, I retain as much resolution as possible. It takes hours or even days but I think worth it.
Great, man! First let me say thanx for all the great videos, it's really awsome. And this is the same stuff I've been trying to work with too to make songs sound louder in the final master. Question: Did you turn off the auto-normalizer in Properties>Advanced settings before doing this, as in meaning auto-normalizer was not activated? Cause if the auto-normalizer is on when I export it automatically can pull down the final volume if my final volume is above the settings standarized by GB. Thanx
Okay, I gave this a try tonight and it worked wonders.;-) Now this track is as loud as commercial cd's and downloads. I was able to turn up the gain 6.3db and it still sounds pretty dynamic and LOUD. Beyond that the cymbals started pumping and it will not sound transparent if you squash it too much. Thanks for the helpful vid, this solved my exact problem.;-)
Wow thanks so much! Thanks for taking the time and answering my question! Btw, do you have any recordings of your band out there on myspace or something? I would love to listen!
thank you so much!!!!!!!!!! i couldnt stand the volume drop of my songs any longer...thanks again!

You don't mention the normalize function in the Preferences panel. In either step, do you use this in your exporting?

@nikolaisaskator That's not really "Mastering" the track. I'd call it a trick to get the volume up, but not the proper method.
