There are two different easter eggs, ya know...

For one of them, you hald Z on one controller, for the other you hold Z on 4 controllers.

Yes, the sound is from N64 Banjo-Kazooie. Then again I don't think many people had 4 controllers back then to try this.

It worked for me, so I made this video.

You have to press and hold Z on the Controller plugged in Port 1. While holding the Z-Button turn the Gamecube on.

My Gamecube is PAL and language is set to German, it is also one of the early models with "Digital AV out"

BTW: You don't need a CFW anymore to use Themes it's offical to use Themes for like 2-3 years by now.
