  • Got this footage on a dvd..the audio was lost wasn`t it?Tried guessing each track...

  • Funny how music maps your life and history will tell you where you was with the sound of your youth.

Fankfook I was around when Free and all the other Historical bands was out.

Just love Paul Rogers voice and all the tracks he has done.

  • I think 1969 was the most powerful ever for Rock and Roll. Tons of monumental stuff came out that year.

  • to the 13 year old who liked this. Fear not, there are some great bands out there still keeping up the raw rock and roll and blues spirit. Try and catch the Black Keys live, awesome band, young guys with real blues feel.

Saw free back in 69, first band I ever saw live and tried to get to see them as much as poss after that. Lots of really good live bands around at that time. Mott the hoople, Yes, Jethro tull, 10 years after, Curved air, Pink Floyd, Groundhogs, Taste (Rory Gallagher) etc.

  • @chesterfield53 I second the Black Keys comment!

  • Even better then the Iron Maiden cover! (something that shouldn't be a suprise)

  • man that audience is shit. its awful playing to sober people.

  • listening to this and looking at the songs in the suggestions bar is giving me a roaring hard on time for a bowl peace be well be free yerhaaar

  • Remember seeing them at The Castle Tooting and at Croydon Fairfield Halls

    Thanks for posting this :)

  • @lucidlupin I have had a few pints @ the Castle thanks to some mates from SW London. Me I was a young G.I. who was a few years too late to see Free and I won't go into what was playing there in the late70's. Some fine memories from the whole Tooting-Bec area. Is the Castle still in business?

  • @DriftIAm

Only just discovered in box on here & your reply doh!

Ive no idea about The Castle Tooting been living near Lands End since 1980! lol

  • FREE is FREE!paul&paul the best!

  • Stop all his pointless arguing you guys. Good music is good music full stop. Live, love and enjoy.

  • @unlikeanyotherhuman well, your right about one thing, i am severly inbread. note the spelling of that please. and yes I will be meeting you in Toronto so we can rumble... im bringing my sister (if available) and possibbly my father, both inbread.

  • @unlikeanyotherhuman Hi, may I applaud your reference to the correct spelling of the word arse. The Americanisation of the word to ass ! has always perplexed my sense of reason . For as we all know an ass is a "creature of low degree" ,

    human or equus.

Toronto a most enjoyable city, have only visited the once but I hope to go again someday. Rock on brother.

  • @unlikeanyotherhuman fuck you. i dont go around saying im 105 years old to get some attention from a bunch of homo people who sit around thinking of the "good" old days and ripping on new music and such. fuck you and fuck the thirteen year old!!!!

  • Remember their average age was 19 in 1969. These guys are awesome.

  • oooo, i love that voice

  • So understated at a time when so much was over the top. They remind me of the Troggs and Blue Cheer -- r'n'r minimalism at its best.

  • Where is the video from?

  • @LSGoCards7 I might be wrong but i think its Ealing College, London

  • Yes, this was shot by Simon Kossoff, Paul's elder brother, who was a student at the college at the time. He is now a cinematographer. Unfortunately the soundtrack got lost over the years.

  • what a group.i would have given anything to be able to play like paul !!!!!!!!!!! rip mate

  • I used to love all the mainstream classic rock then i started getting into all the old hiphop.. it was way better then any music today.. now that I'm finding way better bands then are everywhere on your classic rock stations I'm back on the dark side of the moon

  • fuck yeah

  • Brilliant!!!

  • mine too, hitting the bong after school with my buds!!

  • this is my time, rember getting high on cocaine, while listening to Free

  • @MCconcon Spelled "i'm wrong douche-bag

  • @MCconcon i'm 5 and this music is better than any crap the bands put out today. This song is awsome

  • @mafiasefic you're... five? Lmao watch out for michael jackson fans out there

  • @mafiasefic or catholic priests you know?

  • @cordfluidnevoie i am well aware of their sexsual preferences lol

  • @MCconcon I really don't care about you age !!!!!!!!!!! I really don't care if you are the finest and coolest and smart Kid ever !!!!!!!!! Teeneagers are a pain in the ass!Their comments are full of the that kind of crap " I'm a Fetus and I doin't like Lady Gaga ". Jesus !

  • audio doesnt match video

  • If you read through the comments you will see why ... the sound to this footage (shot by Paul's brother Simon Kossoff) has been lost, so it is a silent film.

  • but i need to return to the windy road , , im mover ,awesome finally , free especially on this album played rotten blues !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • prefer black cat bones - chauffeur or death valley blues

  • amazing!! Does anyone know of any recorded performances of The Hunter? cause i cant find any.

  • the album 'tons of sobs' or loads of sobs, something like that

  • No video footage to my knowledge........ Free Live! LP has a great audio version of The Hunter tho.

  • outstanding ...

  • Awesome.

  • thanks frozenfish, this is exactly why i watch videos on the tube this is THE SHIT

  • yeah where else we gonna get this top stuff- thank fuck for you tube- you wont get this quality on bollocks tv

  • check out swampfreaks, if you like free it could be up your street

  • I think this is from 1970 purely because Simon Kirke is playing a Hayman drum kit, I think he used his Ludwig kit well into 1970 before changing to Hayman which was the new loud english drum of the time.

  • ya i check in every month or so to c if free is observed.

  • Very good, I love this!

  • It's the first time I hear this song, it's awesome! thanks for posting, and theodorus45, thanks for the share:))

  • Fantastic band! Thanks youtube!

  • what a great band they were, great vid cheers.

  • this is what youtube is all about!

    I'm happy now

  • i' m a lynyrd skynyrd fan and you know what? i think skynyrd would never be existed without free...god bless 'em

  • Well Gary rosington fav guitarist at the time was Kossoff. Hence why rosington is an Les Paul Player

  • first track on the greatest hits and a cracker song too........

  • Quack ma dawg!

  • WOW!!!!!!!!

  • I like how Kossoff lays back on his amps.

  • Just tried to work out which songs they're playing and I think I'm right (sad, aren't I?)

In the first part they're playing Ride on pony - you can tell by Kirke's drumming on the 'Because you see' bit.

In the second part (when the film gets darker) I think Koss is doing the solo to Mr Big and it finishes with Kirke doing his famous end to this song.

  • ya... listen... what did u ask?

  • This is the live version of the song...found on either the single 'Alright Now' as a b-side or on the remastered version of 'Tons of Sobs', where both versions can be found.

  • yeah its a BBC session isnt it?

  • I think it was recorded by Simon Kossoff ( Brother). but he lost the audio hence why an over dub

  • Timnol - I've just noticed your question. This is a year late but here goes (Free songs on comps) - You can all join was 'I'm a mover' - Nice enough to eat was 'Woman' - Bumpers was ' Oh I wept' and El pea was 'The Highway song'. One song off each of their four studio albums (before the breakup). To be honest I think Island made a great choice of track every time!

  • "I'm a Mover" was on their first album "Tons of Sobs" this is a different version...I didn't know they released it as a single?

  • Oh hell yes. One of their best. I'd like to see an actual video of this though. And that doesn't mean midlife crisis/suddenly ripped as shit Paul Rodgers with some hired hands.

  • iron maisden did a cool cover of this one

  • Yeah, on the No Prayer for the Dying '95 reissue. Great cover, also one of Communication Breakdown on there.

  • Wow. I am a big free fan. I have never heard this song or seen this video. I am speachless....tick...tick... OK this is GREAT!

  • Can you tell me where the footage comes from?

  • It was filmed at Ealing College by Paul Kossoff's older brother Simon who was a film student there. Unfortunately the soundtrack has since got lost. This plus some more footage of Paul and his dad are featured on the Free Forever DVD.

  • This is one of the best songs ever. I am not sure it is the same as the studio version, the studio version I heard was much faster I think.

  • watch this song over and over, one of the best, but mr big and fire and water just own so much

  • also representing the younger generation: wow 1969 a great year for alot of bands. zeppelin, the doors, hendrix, free. love rock and roll.

  • out of synchronicity...too bad

  • That's because it's silent footage with the studio version of the song.

  • niiiiiiiiiiiiicee

  • Just to represent the young kids on this one:

I'm fifteen and this is some of the best music I have ever heard.)

lol im me on aim i got some good stuff to show u

    finman2009

  • What about MSN?

  • This is what blues-rock is all about

  • This groove is as nasty as it gets! I like this even better than the album version!

  • One Word: vibrato.

  • Awesome !!!!!! their best number...

  • Just to represent the young kids on this one:

I'm fifteen and this is some of the best music I have ever heard.

  • Awesome....One of their best songs.

Would love to see footage of 'Worry' which is my favorite

    Free song.

  • Oh Thank you Frozen fish. Ive seen a few videos of free. But never seen this one. Just guitars/Drums and Valve amps no Effects No Crap. As Music should be

  • I couldn't agree with you more

  • Thank you djslater10665. If the 10/06/65 is your birthday . This means you were born in the same yr as me. Great minds think alike!!

  • Sure is mate..Wish i could have seen these live. But i had the next best thing.I played drums in a Free&Bad Company tribute band some years ago.Best music i've ever played.Played from the heart and not over-produced and manufactured like a lot of the shit we get today.

  • my favorite FREE song!!!

  • this is my favorite song

  • Check out the album TONS OF SUBS (best in vinyl)

  • FUCK YEAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

  • Where is the original audio to all these clips? they look GREAT but the tunes are the studio versions/bbc versions? so where is original anybody know? i crave it ;)

  • Just love that sound. It just cannot be beaten. So rich, just the greatest band that ever existed.

  • My favorite album is Tons Of Subs ... check it out!(best in vinyl of course)

  • Wasn't this on "Nice enough to eat" LP?

  • yes and Oh I wept was on Bumpers. great stuff

  • Yep, I've still got both those LPs in the celler. I'm glad some still remember those times!

  • Hey Kegs, you got me thinking now. The first "Island" sampler was You can all join in, then Nice enough to eat, then Bumpers, then El Pea. Not certain which songs were on which but well worth checking out. Enjoy. I'm 54 and I've rediscovered a lot of great music on You Tube. Check out Solo Dallas, mainly AC/DC stuff.

  • I'm also 54! You can all join in is also hiding away in my celler somewhere! Wasn't Fairport Conventions "Meet on the ledge" on that one? Great song for me at least. I've just re-discovered Taste and RG, after many years of not hearing that music, along with Gentle Giant, Jody Grind(inner British college/Uni. progressive band with Tim Hinkley, and High Tide, likewise known for their live concerts but not outside of G.B.. I could ramble on for ever.......

  • yes, meet on the ledge was on you can all join in. I saw Taste in 69 supported by Mott the Hoople, changed my life forever. Acctually stood next to Rory, side stage at Wheely festival in 71 to watch Mott as the sun rose. I was 19 and i'ii never forget that moment.

  • where was the Wheely festival? I saw Taste in Chatham, great! Ru British? Mott T. H. were good too " You really got me" version was great.

  • Hi Kegs. yeah i'm a Kentish lad. Wheely is near Clacton, Essex. the festival was August bank hols 71. Met Mott backstage.(except Ralpher who was busy with a lady). Got onstage at 5am and Rory was up there next to me. Thought I'd died and gone to heaven.Saw Mott and the Who about 8 times each between 69 and 74.

  • Did you ever see High Tide or Jody Grind or Bakerloo? Not many remember them! I left Chatham 1973 and migrated for Germany, lucky for me eh?

  • Saw High Tide once. Good violinist as I recall. Remember Tin Hinkley and Bakerloo. Harvest records? try timcarpmanataoldotcommight be easier. could chat for ages.

  • so much like almost famous

  • LOVE it... Love The Free... thanx, frozen...

  • Man they had some strong grooves.

  • Are you a black person who loves listening to rock or metal music? Are you someone who knows any black rockers? If you do, please send me a message in my mail box. I will like to talk to you. Please send me a message and leave your e-mail address. Also feel free to watch my videos.

    LAR

  • Great song had it on vinyl. But this is a Faux video. Watch again during Koss solo he is playing something else.

  • I think it's just miles out of sync. Kirke's cymbal crashes can be seen about 3 seconds after being heard...

  • Hear the Buffalo(AUS) version this song, it blows away this cool original version. Buffalo- dead forever 1972

Buffalo did "I'm coming" on too in 1974 Hear both!

  • Thanks a million for this film.

  • Superb ! Paul Kossoff has got the nerve

  • Ha! Well done! Although I always thought this was "Woman" either way you did a great job!!

  • kossoff's tone is amazing,great vid cheers.

  • wow i've never heard this version :o thanks so much FF! oh its from the free bbc sessions.. got to get that :D cheers man, and its a great version too!! :) wow

  • What a shame the audio to these images has been lost.

To find it would certainly be the Holy Grail for Free fans.

  • Ha! when I purchased the forever DVD I thought the same but with my limited editing skulls I thought this would be a good opportunity and excuse to place it on the tube with some tracks. I always loved this BBC version of "The Mover"

  • my god..I was scared/excited that there was footage of them playing this song ha

Anyways, thanks for not only posting this video, but putting music to it! Just a few days ago I was thinking that would have been great if they had at least given the option on the DVD to hear music during this silent footage. I mean it's so frustrating to watch, but I am grateful to have it, of course! :)

    Thanks!! :D
