@fulgeruldincarpati It's the law. At most railroad crossings in the USA 2 long blast, a short blast & a long blast must be blown at each RR crossing. Unless there is a quiet zone which usually has gates on all sides of the crossing (4 gates or more) only the bell must be rung. Those are rare & expensive to construct though.

@theshugchannel No, the engineer probably didn't apply the emergency breaks. If you noticed the yellow plate at about 3:37, that means slow to restricted speed which is likely at 15 miles per hour. Also you would hear a loud sound of air breaks, kind of like opening a bottle of soda, if he applied the emergency breaks- a.k.a. dumping the air. I'm not 100 percent this is true, but okay.
