cherone is better than SH and DLR combined. anyone who thinks otherwise doesnt understand the difference between a fiery passionate lead singer voice and commercial success.
One of the few songs that I liked from this album. I love Van Halen and Extreme. Unfortunately, I think this version sounded like Van Extreme except for this song. When listening to it, I heard Extreme, not Van Halen. When Sammy came in, I still heard Van Halen though people called them Van Hagar. It is hard to replace singers. They did it once and couldn't get the same magic.
I saw them on this tour in Sydney and was good. Gary can sing but on stage he was an idiot. Good song this will have to have another listen to the album again. Lots say it was crap but it had it's good points. The last couple of albums with Sammy weren't that flash. Will they ever do a new album. Lets all hope so as it would be a shame if they just kept touring with out one. Just my opinon.
Interpretation of the song. Clean up the garbage that keeps coming out of our mouths. Want war to stop? Shout our mouths, or at the very least, do what we say we are going to do. That's gotta sound funny coming from me. The thief of time. I just need some time.
I think they were straining to make Gary sound like Sammy because that's what was comfortably selling for them at the time. I think if instead he did his own list then brought it to them they might have had something together. I know the type: "you don't know what you're doing so get out of the way." The thing is to not argue. Just agree and add your two cents until they stop, smirk and call you a wiseass.
I think VH3 is a great record. Sherone did a good job. During the tour Eddie was playing at his best. Hagar , at his peak in VH, was the best singer, Lee Roth was the most funny vocalist, and Sherone did not have enough time to fulfill all his potential.
DLR is by far best frontman for VH...that being said, i love cherone and think he is a better singer/frontman than hagar or roth...it was cool seeing gary with VH, but he is magic with nuno...and VH is magic with roth, just natural and it works
I like the VHIII songs too. Gary wasn't as bad as people paint him out to be. I liked him in VH too even though I didn't like Extreme except for the song "More Than Words." Sammy's voice was stronger than Gary's but Sammy's was too polished for me at times. Gary's voice was edgier which I thought was cool back then. It sounded "real." But if I had to choose any singer, David Lee Roth would be it. Not the strongest singer but he just clicks with the music more so than any of the other singers.
@russandersonus Actually he and Ed got pretty close and he liked Gary. I think it was a combination of Warner Bros. pressure to drop them and Alex not liking his singing that ended that version.
@DarthKazi Thanks for that info, I'd always heard that Eddie dropped him. Too bad, I think given more time, they could have come up with some good stuff.
@russandersonus Well, I think Ed let him down easy. They didn't gel I guess. Frankly, Van Halen was in a good progress mode through Sammy's era and that is more regrettable than anything. Heck, Mike and Ed were trading verses on some songs and they both could sing better than Roth live. We'll see if the new studio album (I'm not holding my breath) has the magic of the old days or, at least, some new magic.
@russandersonus So..you've worked with Eddie, Huh???..Got some news for ya..I love old Van Halen but David is the immature..egotistical Dick that was "hard to work with"
I don't think the music is un-inspired. This song is great. And so were the ones with Sammy and the ones with Dave. Just because the lyrics ain't about shagging a girl it doesn't mean it's bad... The music is there. I just wish people would keep an open mind and we could probably have a new Van Halen album...

Very un-inspired music.........VH was spiritually bankrupt after Dave left and it really shows in all the awful Van Hagar and Van Cherone crap they foisted on the world.
Gary has a great voice, but...I can't really put my finger on it except to say he's third of the three when it comes to stage presence. Dave isn't a great singer, but he works the crowd like very few lead singers ever have.
@restlessr84 Gary sounded like he gargled with bleach and razorblades during the recording of this CD. I like the CD, but I think they would have had better results with a good engineer and a strong producer.
Eventhough I like both Roth and Sammy as VH frontmen better than Cherome, he still rocked, ya can't take that from him. Besides, the band was extremely tight at this time and their live sound in 98' was phenominal!
I'll give you that, they rock in all their phases. And the live sound during this time was the best since LWOAN with Hagar IMO. I wish he would've never gotten into drugs though, that fucked his sound over later in the day.
Best song on the album 1 problem. How do think gary is the best singer? He sounds like Sammy only constipated and Dave beats him easily(i can actually listen to his songs for more than 30 seconds).

The worst incarnation of Van Halen. This song is one of the few decent songs on this CD.Gary Cherone sounded a lot better with Extreme--He looked out of place in Van Halen. And his singing is completely annoying, even in this song.
I'm a huge Extreme/Gary fan, and a guitarist, so I worship Eddie's work. VH3 is an odd combination... Some of Gary's best vocals, some insane leads by Eddie, and well composed, but like everyone has said, weird chemistry. Performing live they each look like theyre trying to ignore the others, except for some forced awkward moments. I'm a huge fan of Gary's performances, hes a true performer, but I just wasnt feeling it with VH3.
Saw this tour 3 times, it was great!! If you idiots dont care for Gary, why are you watching? Prolly never seen it live, so what you think means absolutely nothing...
ya man i hear ya. personally i like van halen iii better than some of their other albums like diver down or women and children first. its just because gary was given the crapshot of being their third singer and especially coming off of someone as great as sammy hagar...fans were not going to take well to a third singer no matter who it was.
WRONG! true gary is a good singer, but on extreme. he has odd chemistry with VH and its a no go. If it were better wouldn't you think the album would still be in print? Roth is the true frontman, started with halen and now they got their shit back together it looks like he'll die that way.
I'm not denying that Roth is the true "frontman" of VH. The reason the album flopped was because people were sick of the rotation of singers. Which is a total shame, Ed's guitar work on VH3 was the best it had been since Fair Warning.

True. I love Fair Warning. Go Mean Street! Definatly underated. Same with Diver Down. Their video game is amazing. Bummer Mike Anothony couldn't be on it.
It's not Ted Danson you fool. It is Gray Chorone from Extreme,oh by the way if he is playing with Van Halen he can't be that gay, he must have some talent. So if you don't like him then don't lisen to him. Nuff said.
Man this is truly rock botton. No wonder Warner Bros dropped them. This is Extreme gay Van Halen. Gary isn't bad but, he wasn't the man for the band. He is trying to sound to much like Sammy. The band had such good chemistry with Sammy.
yes--buy have to undersatand, this album was quick one. The mixer and the sound quality are no good, just sounded like shit..but if it was recorded correctly, it would have been a very good album
That's because Eddie (in a moment of supposed clarity and a game of golf) decided to let Mike Post produce that piece of crap. At the same time, VH never sounded so good live with Gary on vocals. Would love to see someone post the intro to this show, which I believe was Mean Street. Gave me chills having never heard that played live before.
MTV seems to be dominated by rap...hip-hop, stuff like Rhianna, Destiny's Child, Fergie....some emo, but absolutely ZERO good rock, or metal...at least old MTV catered to ALL genres, not just the ones selling a gazillion cd's.
Is this really live? What a powerful fuckin' performance. I never thought to look for Van Halen 3 tracks tho ive been interested in hearing them for years. And lol its true I also feel bad for Gary Cherone. Hes obviously a well rehearsed, solid, Great vocalist. Even though he never became a megastar, tho they do play More Then Words a lot, hes still had 100x better life then most of us. Why do we feel bad for him haha?
