Anyone else hear the resemblance to "Kristina, She Don't Know I Exist" by streetlight manfiesto? I know its the same band mostly, but there's just too much similarity.
Does anybody else agree that Tomas is like, one of the greatest musicians of all time? people call me crazy for comparing him to michael jackson, james brown, and ray charles but, he's doing the same thing as james brown and ray charles. he's combining multipule styles, and making them work. To do that is very hard. Streetlight and BOTAR have a very unique great sound that inspired a lot of people. They're literaly riding the fourth wave of ska xD. in my eyes Tomas is a musical Genius..
@stuckbetweenV Yo dude, chill out. Michael was a little odd in his later years, but he was an AMAZING, groundbreaking artist in his time and deserves respect as one of music's greatest talents. Comparing Tomas to Michael Jackson may not be accurate in terms of scope but in terms of genius, absolutely.
@trdl23 I'm not saying Tomas as good as Michael Jackson, but i rate artists/bands/composers in different ways, and michael and tomas are both Musically amazing, when it comes to skill, how much soul they put into it, how much they care for the music, and everything.
@stuckbetweenV ^^^ ignorance at it's finest. Bro. Even if he did make some mistakes.. that doesnt make him a terrible person. He choreographed like no others, he was an amazing singer, and not just skillwise, he did everything from the bottom of his heart. If he was as famous as he was or not famous at all, he'd still put the work into it. I dont listen to michael jackson much, but i give him so much honor and respect because of the work and soul he puts into everything, just like tomas
@BoundeterminedMusic from what he said in a interview there should be more BOTAR on the way... but Streetlight has more covers coming... nothing orgnl...
Every fiber of my being yearns for another BotAR album. I know it's on the way, but five songs can only sate a person for so many years. Make it happen!
@AsTheWorldSpinsAgain The mind can only handle so much epic music, Cloning TohKay would result in too much epic music for even the strongest minds to handle.
@PMOCAPALDI the more time goes on the less I group Streetlight (and BOTAR) with ska. It's just not traditional ska in any sense, almost all the other ska I listen to is extremely light hearted. I really don't know another ska band that's as heavy hitting as Streetlight. TK has even said in interviews that he's influence a lot less by ska than you'd think. I think this even more true for BotAR, whose folk influence is almost stronger than it's ties to Ska.
@MasterFett Well, Big D and the Kids Table i think is just as strong hitting as streetlight and BOTAR. And they are ska, but like you said a different kind of ska then usual.
One of the deepest songs I've heard in a long time. I'm sure a lot of family and whatnot can relate to this song who have close ones fighting in the military.
@OpakeArawra2 I listen to all sorts of different music. A lot of different types with deep meanings too. It was a compliment to BOTAR, soooo pull your head out of your ass.
no, theres 8 albums being released.. streetlight are releasing 2, BOTAR are releasing 2 and there are two other "streetlight manifesto related" bands involved
My guess would be Catch 22 and maybe Dan Potthast. I cannot think of any other bands currently active that are connected to Streetlight, unless Kalnoky is resurrecting The Gimp.
EVERYONE! there is this bad ass site ALL about Tomas kalnoky and the bands he was in (gimp, catch, botar, and streetlight...) the site also has (never before seen) video, news, and pics.... it also has a big forum page so you can talk to other fans about any related topic... the address for this site is in my channels comments. just click "alwaysblinkin182" and go to my comments you wont miss it.
@345jackass345 I wouldn't call it gold. Gold is something everyone knows about. His work is more precious and a lot rarer than gold. Something that is all together more important than gold (sentimental value maybe?)
Because, Its not by them, and because its called "Everything Goes Numb". Its by Streetlight Manifesto. They share quite a few members, but its a different name.
oh i know that song but on sites it claims its a different song by them so i went looking all around for it. but then i realized it has the exact same lyrics as everything went numb.
I think you missed the point of the song... If its anti war, why would it have the line
"And I know that everyone is willing to go
And I find Ill turn it all and leave on a dime
If I leave tonight (screw whats right)
I can make it home by dawn"
It seems to me that the song is more about keeping your word and commitments and doing what you promised, rather than just doing what you want and living life with no consequences. That point is touched on in The Blonde Lead The Blind(cont)
well, yeah, it is about keeping your word and such. but there is also a good antiwar message. but all in all, i think we both agree that it's a fantastic overall song
Tomas doesn't tell anyone the meanings of his songs because he says each song has different meaning for each listener. I kinda agree ya know? If you listen to a break up song you think of an ex not the song writers ex. Same concept.
@ImaGoofyGooberYEAH: I agree with your point about fulfilling obligations. This song says in a few areas that, since he's having to fight in a war that he doesn't really see a purpose in fighting, he's still going to fight and just make it a personal reason for which he's fighting. Like you said, you didn't say it's pro-war, but it is pro-responsibility. For some people in this world, "responsibility" is a foreign concept, shucking obligations at every chance they get in order to be happier.

Lucky you, the BOTAR site says they are producing another record, should be out by the end of 2009. It's called 99 Songs of Revolution, but it's going to be covers of anthems to hymns. I'm a little disappointed, because I like Tomas originals, but I'm sure this CD will still sound fantastic.
In another note, tonight, Pentimento Music, Tomas' record label, has their web site come out.
In my final note, daayuum...I love the baritone sax solo in this song.
First of all, it was a joke. Second of all, why do you hate five iron? Just because they arent as "Ska" as streetlight or catch? Thats an idiot reason to hate something.

That's an idiotic reason to hate somebody. Seeing as it's nearly impossible to not hate five iron frenzy.

First of all, it was a joke. Second of all, why do you hate five iron? Just because they arent as "Ska" as streetlight or catch? Thats an idiot reason to hate something.

Streetlight is barely ska, so nice try. No, it's what their lyrics are about and the vocals.
