all of you who are ripping on his form don't know anything. that lift was a completely acceptable competition lift. back arching is allowed and can add to your bench. you just aren't allowed to do any thrusting or have your butt come off the bench
@ridehonda107 you're right on the money here. People are confusing powerlifting form with bodybuilding form. This is a strength movement being done to display strength and not to build his upper body size. If he were trying to body build some people would be making valid points. However Brian is a powerlifter trying to bench press as much as he can while staying within the rules of the sport.
Sorry to bore you with that, jt. I'm just an average, middle age guy trying hard. I started lifting when I was your age. Benched 155. So if I can throw on a shirt and hit 405 for 5 at my age, I'll take it. Thanks for your kind encouragement.
Hey Buddy I'm 34 so that my age shit doesnt work. If I were you I would feel alot better of myself at doing 1-2 without the shirt..... Go raw and hardcore!!! Dont take the easy way out.
You may be a great powerlifter. (I don't know, I haven't seen any of your videos.) I'm not great. I'm just an average, middle age guy trying hard. My friend posted this video to demonstrate that. You don't get to talk to me about what it's like to be 45 until you celebrate that birthday. I've competed in everything from raw to triple denim. I felt good about myself every time. I don't know why you need to tear me down. It's just a training video. I felt good about that, too
@jtcruzzin Brian has competed both RAW and equipped. A quality lifter in any way you look at it. You are entitled to your opinion but the guy has done this in actual competition which takes much more then any gym lift. So has indeed "gone RAW and hardcore." He was just demonstrating his shirted strength here.
@ak34809723 it really depends on the lifter man. i myself have really long arms, im 6'4. about 40 inch arms. it also depends on the brand. i use a titan katana and get about 70 lbs out of it. the higher end shirts on shorter armed men tho will get upwards of 150 lbs. and the best 2 play shirts close to 300. but beleive me man you dont just throw these things on and instantly add 100 lbs. it takes years to master a shirt. if u miss your groove by even an inch you will miss locking it out.
Nice. But heavy barbell bench press is dangerous, even with spotters. It's not even a natural/functional movement anyway, not for heavy works, gymnastic, climbing, etc. Why is the barbell bench press considered so important as benchmark of strenght? You can do that press heavy enough with safer dumbells and train chest with variations of dumbell flies. If you insist on wanting that steady motion to max out poundage, do weighted push ups instead: you'll have the safer floor instead than the bar
sorry you had to see that!, we cant all be douchebags with tribal arm bands ,and nautical star tattoos ,that do concentration curls with 12lb'ers such as your self.
Benching with a shirt is not as easy as you think and anybody who thinks you are not suppose to arch your back is just plain ignorant and never competed in a competition. What is the guy suppose to do when everybody else in the competition uses shirts? Not using one would be like trying to win Mr Olympia without roids.
almost flawless technique?? the fuk was u lukin at?? the fact his back was 6inch of the bench...meanin bars gettin dropped lower...and at a comp...wiv tht technique u wud get laffd outta the building!
Im realy fed up of dickheads writing their crappy coments to all videos of great pwl and strongman lifts on youtube! great bench ofc with almost flaweless technique
Wow, ignorance here is HUGE! There are only two thigns wrong with his form. He's on his toes instead of the balls of his feet. That and his lower body isn't steady. You folks here need to learn about powerlifting form before you make such retarded comments.
Oh and as for his "belly", again, you folks show your ignorance. In powerlifting, you are supposed to take a deep breath with your diaphram which distends your belly greatly. Try it sometime and you'll see.
I don't know this guy, but the whole "your strong cause your fat" thing is getting old... well than if there is an up there has to be a down... so if hes strong because hes fat.. than you must be weak cause your skinny? thats process of elimination right there
these were good repsthe only thing that might not have been right was his feet some competitions make you keep your feet flat these were impressive reps with pretty steady form
all of you who are ripping on his form don't know anything. that lift was a completely acceptable competition lift. back arching is allowed and can add to your bench. you just aren't allowed to do any thrusting or have your butt come off the bench

If you can get 5 reps with that weight in a shirt - its way to lose get a tighter shirt!
welshd 4 years ago
Agreed.
I have 3 shirts tighter than this one.
This one allows me a full ROM for training.

reillyjj 4 years ago
Nice job. The people making stupid comments probably have never benched 225.

THis is shitty, benching. He's wearing a bench shirt and only benching 405 for reps. THere are women out there who can do that with a bench shirt on.
