  • Kristy sang a version of this great song in the movie but it's not on youtube . All in this clip sang it at one time.

  • This song was geared more torwards the movie, which was a great movie. Why it has never been released on DVD is beyond me. If u havent watched the movie then this version may not make sense.

  • I think that Tanya made the song sound much more southern... U have to listen impossibly close to determine if she's using pronouns or not in some places... she also made it sound much sadder... much more emotion in her voice than Reba and Vicki combined...

Her voice is not quite as pretty as Reba's... but it is prettier than Vicki's... I didn't like Tanya's version though. I like a song to make sense and this one doesn't. I don't understand it at all. Who did what and when???

  • this just sucks. I never did like Tucker. Sorry, you don't f* up a brilliant original like this was.

  • I believe Kristy McNichol did backup vocals.

  • no the movie features tanyas version

  • Reba's version is the best no matter what, Vicki did a great great jon though!

  • This version is indeed Tanya for a 1973 movie cover however she is not the original artist. Vicky Lawrence' husband wrote the song then Vicky recorded it in 1972 after being turned down by other artist at the time. Reba did a good job of covering this song in 1991 however it is the original recording by Vicky that will always be remembered. In radio Vicky's version is used mostly by oldies radio aka the 70's whereas Reba's version is used exclusively by country radio. Tanya's gets no airplay.

  • This is Vicki Lawrence, not Tanya

  • musicguy899

Tanya or Vicki - both are great - but what the hell is your intention when you don't mention " Vicki Lawrence" in the headline ??

  • @softie461 I had never heard this version before now. The only thing that is the same between Tanya Tucker's version and the version Vicki and Reba did is the tune and the words "The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia" (theme might be the same, too). But they are two totally different songs. Vicki's version was in a movie in the '80s I believe, but I can't remember who sang it during the movie. Actually, musicguy899 should not have included the Vicki Lawrence album in the montage.

  • I just heard all three versions and this is my favorite Tanya just has the right feel and she puts the soul in this one.Reba over does it and Vicki well hers is probably second.

  • I heard that this song, was originally written for Cher, when she was with Sonny and he would not let her record it, because he thought it was insulting, too the Southern people!

  • @tubebitch12 That's true!

  • its from a movie of the same name starring dennis quaid ans kristy mcnichol

  • as a devout tanya tucker fan, if any of you douchebags can't tell that's her voice..ur deaf. She covered the song for the movie and u shouldn't be working in radio if u can't recognize HER voice. Thank you for posting this

  • @johnetterox TANYA BLOES BOTH AWAY,

  • Is she singing about incest between the brother and sister??

  • TT never hit with this. MG899 is a douche bag, and I'm blocking him. He/she is an idiot!

  • Hey douche bag, Tanya Tucker didn't do this song. Vicki Lawrence did.

  • @RadioSteve1969 Hey douche bag sucker, Tanya Tucker DID do this song and this copy is of her DOING the song. Vicki Lawence's cut was the most popular. And you're in RADIO? Must be a minute company you work for, because you'd NEVER make it with CC, JACOR, COX, BlueChip, or any other larger companies. CYA!

  • I Never Heard Tanya's version of this song before, Maybe Not as popular as the original or "Reba's" (because not released as a single) but i like it none the less...

  • Why would she change the words?

  • @mrsbelcher1987 It was for the movie of the same name. The words here match the story of the movie.

  • I prefer Vicki and Reba. I like Tanya but these lyrics just don't do it for me.

  • Tanya Tucker rocked it! I love Vicki original version and rebe recreation but come on folks! that is the way u take a song and make it yours!

  • great song just heard it and love it gona play it again

  • This is not Tanya Tucker singing.

  • just listin so good

  • Vicki Lawrence's version is better than both Tanya Tucker's and Reba McEntire's version.

  • 0:20 - Gee, no wonder this version wasn't very popular, lol... the characters in this song must have a family tree that doesn't fork. I'll stick to Reba's, cuz that's what I grew up with. Hell I didn't even know "Fancy" was just a cover until I saw a vinyl of it at a friend's house.

  • @WiiClassic2usb LOL, TANYA COULD SING THE PHN BOOK BETTER THAN EITHER 1 SHES THE BOMB, SHE BLOWS EM BOTH UP

  • Why is Vickey Lawrence on the cover of a song that Tanya sings?

  • im sorry, but i think shes the best out of viki and reba

  • @Kigorusan > u got it:-)

  • Who are these women.

  • For all those who like Reba's version that's great but Vicki Lawrence original still is the best

  • @imageryofsound i agree vicki is still better.

  • @imageryofsound

I have found that the first version of a song you hear. Is the one you lean toward. As it happened, it was rebas version I heard first. I have to say vickis, was better than this one, she just butchered this. I do however like Rebas best.

  • It's not about incest. The "young thing" that made him "lose his mind" is the girlfriend of the sheriff. Read the film description online.

  • That is Awesome !!!! She's Awesome !!! TY U"R - Awesome 4 sharin

  • Ya reba is so much better but tanya had her moments too ;)

  • Can't help but love this song!:)BAD RN

  • she is the Patti Boyd of the country world

  • None of these versions compare to the ONE and ONLY Vicki Lawrence ORIGINAL!! Sorry, Reba, you just don't cut it.

  • None of these versions compare to the ONE and ONLY Vicki Lawrence ORIGINAL!! Sorry, Reba, you just don't cut it.

  • Reba totally did it better! I agree w/ joeyjohnlamb

  • @dimpledick3inch oh come on you really think anyone would pay that worn out old skank $5 to blow them ? I start the bidding at $1

  • @dimpledick3inch yea, but she was fired for drinking on the job.

  • @dimpledick3inch she's a walking sperm bank.

  • this song is a good one i love this song and the story is quite stunning for those of us that know the real song.rebas version of the little sister who didn't miss when ameing telling the story is just genious.

  • Vicki Lawrence did it the best!

  • I prefer Tanya's version more. I like how the lyrics were changed to reflect the movie.

  • they are two different song lyrics, while no one can match Reba both of these songs are as good as each other

  • Reba Does It Better No can see this song like Reba

  • vivki does it the best

  • do remakes ever endup as good as the origenal

  • Without her the song would have never been recorded.

Bobby Russell did not like it and wanted to throw it away, but his wife actually recorded it and made it famous.

  • its just a song, unless u live in the south u'd never understand it.

  • @joseywhales1998 i dont live in the south and i understand it....lol

  • Hey lind1035. Vicki Lawrence sang the original version of this song. Maybe you are to young to remember.

  • @55chevbowtie i love the original movie but also love reba's song as well.great movie

  • @PatirckLMT: You were just hearing what you wanted to hear. You know, things that are familiar to you.

  • Much prefer Reba's version, but it is nice to hear the original!

  • from what I can make out the brother did something wrong and the sister got caught up in the middle of it, they left and ran from it, the sister got sick of suffering for what happened so she turned him in, and she was watching when the cop got him- a last minute of regret when the brother ran from his hotel she cried as he was taken down- i dont hear anywhere about incest! this is an awsome song- how can I get this song?

  • This song is awsome- never heard her sing it before- how can I get this song? whats the actual name of the song? is it the night the lights went out in georgia? just a good song

  • check out Vic Chesnutt's stark, beautiful version of this quite amazing song.

  • And as sure as Heaven is up above, it was a case of sister and brotherly love

  • That's different

  • wow! i had no idea...how very dark!

  • Incest isn't best, but cool version.

  • love it.........

  • nobody knows but this was the first way they wrote "The Night The Lights Went Out in Gerogia". But they re-wrote it

  • I love Tanya, but this song isn't very good for her

  • This is Tanya Tucker's rendition.

  • awesome

  • Kinda reminds me of what is happening in Georgia with Troy. The blk guy who every witness said they got up in court an dlied but the state still wants to out him to death and deny him DNA testing.

  • is it just me or is there a picture of Kathy Griffin in there O.O at 0:17

  • That's Reba McEntire

  • It's just you. It's a picture of Reba McEntire.

  • I have that Vicki Lawrence Record and I have also saw Tanya Tucker. Her designer lives in my town.

  • I like this version, it's different. But I love Miss Lawrence's version better.

  • Vicki's version is better, this one suits the film much better

  • Amazing

  • I love this!! Good work.

  • do you think you could do better bitch!

  • do you think you could do better??

  • Probably not, but Vicki Lawrence & Helen Reddy both sing circles around her.

  • lol you are on a powerful drug

  • You'll find far worse incest than anything stereotypically associated with the south, apparently thriving elsewhere, and dare I say everywhere, too.

Try finding out a bit about "Josef Fritzl".

  • It sounds very nice but I prefer the original words!

  • i definately agree

  • i love tanysa tucker but reba sings this song much better

  • @joeyjohnlamb Sorry, but Reba's version is not the same song - the lyrics are different. This song is from the 1981 film, starring Kristy McNichol, Dennis Quaid. It was very loosely inspired by the Vicki Lawrence song (later by Reba) of the same name . Sung by Tanya Tucker

Music & Lyrics by Bobby Russel

  • I like Tanya Tucker but if this is her singing she missed it on this one. It is so bad I can't believe it is really Tanya singing.

  • Tanya Tucker is THE Best female country singer, a true legend!!

  • wtf........vicki lawrence version is the best

  • Go Tanya!

    Asome Lady!

  • This is an abomination of a god song!! Simon: "ghastly!"

  • sound slike a song about incest

  • I agree.

  • That's where you own mind is taking it, its not what the lyrics say, try actually listening to them.

  • O_o I thought so too

  • Jeez! And I thought the Vicki Lawerence version was hard to follow...

  • EarthPriestess: Just Google or Yahoo it - you'll get the info.

Are you in a Gaya cult or something?

  • Tanya Denise Tucker (pronounced: /ˈtæn.jə ˈtʌk.ɚ/) (born October 10, 1958 in Seminole, Texas) is an American country music artist who had her first hit, "Delta Dawn", in 1972 at the age of 13.

  • you check out her of i'm so lonesome i could cry..

  • any one have the lyrics to this song?

  • I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE THIS VERSION!! Reminds me of the movie

  • What movie?

  • they made a movie of this song long ago,i can't remember what year though =/

  • This is on the soundtrack LP from this 1981 Kristy McNichol film. I have a copy. Look on eBay.

  • this song goes with the movie, and reba also sung this song.watch the movie!!!

  • whats with the pic of reba?

    lol

    good song

    thanks for uploading

  • cuz she made the best version.

  • Can you please tell me what album this is off of? I want to go buy it, I'm tired of hitting "replay" on the video :/

  • so far as i know this song was only released on the soundtrack for the movie. Good luck finding it. I haven't been able to.

  • Thanks. I found it used on Amazon for $40, but I'm not paying that much for one song :(

  • Get Audacity. it's freeware and lets you record through your soundcard. Anything playing on your computer can be recorded.

  • Can you please post the lyrics for this? I can't find them on google.

  • this is an awesome song thanks for the upload

  • like these lyrics better reba needs to do it

    ]

  • has anyone seen the movie? one of my faves wish i could find on dvd

  • you can find the DVD at Turner Classic Movies/Movies Unlimited. Its NOT widescreen and is NOT the best quality but it is what it is.

  • MAMA HOUSE !

  • very interestin song

  • Bicker bicker bicker. Tanya, Reba, Vicki. Bicker bicker bicker. Last I knew, everyone was titled to an opinion. Stop bickering, children.

  • this is a pretty good song ye haw.

  • Women should think twice about cheatin' on their man. No tellin' what'll go down.

Those that do will not get away with it. Time's got a way of repaying.

  • do you even know what this songs about?

  • bull crap i know it word for word and know every definition

  • thats right

  • YIKES! I couldn't even get through the whole song... didn't even make it past 1:30.... : S And what the heck is she doing with her voice? You know, the part where she goes real high, almost like a squeal? Weird, man...

  • Vicki Lawrence looks like a truck driver on that album cover. Damn!

  • I guess you look better on *your* album cover??

  • Welcome to the '70's. Cope with it.

  • I laugh my ass off at people like you and

DanielSelby1965 above you. MGM made a simple comment only stating an opinion why yall gotta be asses.

  • This is horrible! What a huge mess Tanya did with this true classic song. Kinda like the way she screwed up Donna fargo's "Happiest Girl in the Whole USA". Tanya should stick to her original songs.

  • yeah it does suck

  • i agree!

  • Vickie Wins !!!!!! The other two dont know nuthin!

  • Hmmm I have never heard this version before... Reba's version is better... But Tanya's is really good..

  • Is Tanya's recording of this song available on cd?

  • Comment removed

  • I am looking for TANYA'S version, not Reba's.

  • reba's is the only version that makes sense to me. and i love how she sings it. but i do like the other two singers.

  • I like Rebas Version better, Its pretty good... But Ilike the One that they BOTH sing it. I don't like the lyrics.

  • The lyrics are different. I don't like this version at all. Between Reba and Vicki, I like Vicki's version A LOT more.

  • I'm a fan of both of Tanya and Reba, but I love Tanya more. :D

  • the lyrics are compltyly differnt

  • both talented ,love them both but this song belongs to reba

  • Hey, I rather like this version of the song. I'd never heard Tanya's version before now, but I must say that I like it! In fact, I'll go on and say that I love all versions.

  • If ever there was a song for a female country music artist to sing, I'd want Tanya Tucker. every time. I really enjoy her singing--especially Pecos Promenade.

  • In my opinion it's not who has a better voice but rather that Vicki, Reba and Tanya sing a great song in their own way. All three versions are well done.

  • Reba sounds better

  • Reba sounds better

  • Love her voice for this song.

  • Tanya had a better voice for this song than Reba did - classic.

  • I love this song. I forgot this version had different lyrics based on the plot of the movie.
