  • I'm gonna try this, thanks Betty

  • i wanted to double the caramel what should i add... sorry im only 10 i dont really know ... or should i just make a batch than another ?

  • @bbaseketball24 It would be better to make 2 separate batches.

    --Betty :)

  • great !!!! love it going to make this for the sleepover with my friends this saturday !!!!

  • They look real good

Plz tell carter that he's real cute

And by the way your a lucky gramma

  • Shaytards brought me here

  • Dear Betty: On the printed recipe there are 2 butter items. One at the beginning when you boil the sugars etc. and a 2nd butter added at the end. I think the butter is supposed to be added last. Also, dampen your hands with cold water to form the balls. Water works better than butter and is less messy. I thought it might make the pop corn balls soggy but it does not.

  • @bjorkman9186 Yes, the butter is only added at the end. Thanks for noticing!

    --Betty :)

  • oh he is the cutest little boy :D and you are gorgeous betty

  • God bless ur son he is handsome!

  • This looks just like the popcorn balls recipe my Grandma Ann used to make and hand out at Halloween. I miss her so much and I will definitely be trying out this recipe in her memory. I always felt sorry for the kids whose parents didn't allow their kids to eat the homemade treats. Once Grandma made a popcorn Christmas tree, she used green food coloring and candy stars for the decorations. Thank you so much. This is the first of your videos I have watched, I will definitely be watching more.

  • @Twend232 Thanks for your sweet comment! I really appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • I know you said that the recipe needs corn syrup, but I can't afford to go get some.. Is there any way a water/sugar mixture would work at all? Sorry, but I've just been informed that popcorn balls are needed for an event...

  • @PanderflyLUV You could use honey or molasses. You could try mixing 1 part sugar to 1 part water and boil it for a few minutes for a simple syrup.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen Okay. Thank you so much Betty. :)

  • Haha, both the caramel and your son seem really sweet! And he's so adorable to boot!

  • Hi Betty How much Corn Syurp did you use?

  • you're son is cute!

  • Hi Betty,

As you know I have been suscribed to your channel for quite sometime and I love it :-)

I am just writing to tell you I had a little problem with this recipe. I followed it to a T but I couldn´t get to form the caramel balls. The popcorn just wouldn´t stick together. I ended up popping them into the oven for caramel popcorn but I would have loved to make the balls for a bday party. Do you have any idea what could have gone wrong ? Maybe it was too much butter , a humid day ?

  • omg i luv ur son.so adorable

  • @chyster95 Thanks for your sweet comment!

    --Betty :)

  • I like caramel

  • @joeharris1223 I do, too! This is a good recipe for fall! Thanks for your sweet comment!

    --Betty :)

  • @joeharris1223 i dont like it.... I LOVE IT!!! But i love chocolate just a hair bit more! lol

  • do you need a candy theremometer?

  • @faariiea No, I usually don't use one.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen oh then how do i figure out when its done ? cause idont want it to be undercooked or overcooked (:

thank youu by the waay !

  • @faariiea The recipe calls for hard ball stage. You can test for that by putting a teaspoon of the candy into 1/2 glass clear water. If you can form a ball (that holds together), then it is done. You will have to test several times. Don't get discouraged and take it up early!

    --Betty :)

  • Do I have to use corn syrup?

For a substitute can I use vegetable oil?

    Thanks!

    999 videos is a lot.

  • @devonparikh You do not have to use corn syrup; use honey or another substitute. Also, vegetable oil is fine. Today will be the 1,000th video!

    --Betty :)

  • could u replace butter with shortening? hurry!!!

  • @xcutecupcakelala Yes, with an equal amount.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen thanks :)

  • @xcutecupcakelala You're welcome!

    --Betty :)

  • You can use honey too.

  • @TheMatilda579Tard Honey is great in these!

    --Betty :)

  • Can you tell me what the vinegar is for? Is it sort of like the baking soda?

  • @Seedcovers The vinegar prevents the caramel coating from being overly sweet.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen hmmm intersting. Thanks, your baby was tooo cute too.

  • "happy scare" :)

  • Omg he is sooo cuute

  • that looks yummy! :D

  • Carter is a cutie!

  • You can also use seran plastic wrap for the popcorn balls, it 's th easiest way !

  • Need help.

Could you make popcorn balls without caramel?

Are there any other ingredients to make the popcorn glued together other than caramel? Like butter popcornball, cheddar popcornball, etc..

  • @punchingpower I don't have a recipe for popcorn balls that aren't sweet--maybe someone out there does and will share it!

    --Betty :)

  • @punchingpower you can use marshmallow :D

  • @punchingpower can you use marshmallows?

  • What happened to the finished product?

After I poured the caramel, the popcorn just went all soggy.

  • @punchingpower It should set up quickly and the popcorn stays crunchy and fresh.

    --Betty :)

  • how do you make the popcorn stick together?

I made caramel popcorn and it went soggy, how do I make it crispy?

  • @punchingpower You do have to mold the balls with your hands--but it should not go soggy.

    --Betty :)

  • I wonder if this recipie could be done for Valentine's Day by adding some red food coloring or some type of red sprinkles?

  • Carter is too cute! (:

  • do u have to use the corn syrup?

  • @xhollistergirl24 You might be able to substitute maple syrup or honey.

    --Betty :)

  • what's the difference between corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup and fructose? are they all processed?

  • @azngirl967 Corn syrup, which is mainly glucose, is used as a non-sweet thickener. High fructose corn syrup, on the other hand, is made of almost equal portions of fructose and glucose and is used as a sweetener. Fructose is a naturally occurring sweetener found in fruits and honey.

    --Betty :)

  • Hi Betty...I was just wondering...why did you butter the back of your hands

  • @bossr07 I may not have needed to, but I didn't want any of the caramel sticking to any part of my hands.

    --Betty :)

  • I have had those as a kid but never made them, thanks for sharing! I think Reny approved too! Too cute at the end!

  • I have had those as a kid but never made them, thanks for sharing!

  • Carter is so cute!!!!

  • Betty you should do a sweet potato pound cake recipe.....

  • Happy Halloween :)

  • Betty..

you should star on your own Food Network show!!!

  • I like this recipe. So far I have only made chocolate rice puff balls which is similar to this one but uses rice puffs instead of popcorns. Thanks and happy Halloween :)

  • he is sooooooooooooooo cute! what a sweet little boy. never have hear of popcorn balls. a very american treat i think.

  • Thanks for uploading this on birthday!!!

  • ok if you eat stuff with alot of salt in it you can eat this with corn syrup in it

  • @portiasT123 I agree! Actually, a lot of people don't realize that the cooking syrup is much less concentrated in fructose than the syrup that goes into carbonated beverages, etc., so it's not really all that bad!

  • @bettyskitchen yeah.. cornsyrup isnt bad at all if you dont use a lot of in a small recipe..

what corn syrup does is to prevent crystallization when you're trying to make caramel.

because corn syrup is sugar but its a different kind of sugar then normal granulated sugar or normal white sugar...corn syrup is call reversed sugar i think.

  • o0ps i mean inverted sugar* instead of reverse sugar

  • nice performance

happy halloween to betty and everybody !

  • Bah just use corn syrup. It's not like you're going to use it in everything you make. It's a treat, it's candy, it's not meant to be eaten all the time!

  • Sry Betty not this time ^^ Who we gonna call? Carter Carter Carter lol gr8 job you done both.

  • you need to get twitter lol

  • LOL! My kindergarten teacher made this as a classroom activity. I was so "weirded" out by the caramel that I didn't even want to taste it. You see, I've always loved caramel, but I never saw caramel in its gooey state up until that time. So I kinda get Carter's hesitation. =] Thank you for bringing back fond memories Betty! You always manage to do that whenever I watch your videos.

  • Can't wait to make these!! Thanks for the tutorial! :)

  • i thought all salt was iodized?

  • @potyunbe not all

  • Those remind me of when I was a little girl, if you went to a house and got a popcorn ball, or an apple, or one of those grab bags, it was a really big deal. Happy Halloween to you and yours - Carter, I hope you get lots of candy!!!

  • @WisdomVendor lol, that is so true!!!!
