  • Even A. Lincoln admitted that race has nothing to do with this , all those years ago . It's about personal liberty / freedom from the Nanny state the libs insist upon imposing ." You can't fix STUPID ...or LAZY " ....

  • good song

  • Im here to see the day the SOUTH will RISE AGAIN..

  • corpis cristi is abunch of mexicans and queers

  • I'm about to deploy to Iraq, I'm sad listening to this song. I'm gonna miss my precious southland.

  • @JGeary387 thx u for serving our country and homeland. i hope that u make it home safely.

  • He wrote some songs that are great. I went to a show a few years back now and I left. He fucking lost it big time. Once he was good.

  • @oilslicked Once??? He is still GREAT and always will be.

  • @truexjrfan19 That's just my opinion. You obviously feel different my man so fill your boots.

  • @oilslicked

Yeah, I think this is his best performance/song. Strangely, this one is surprisingly hard to come by.

Anyway, he was always a better songwriter than a performer, IMO.

  • Ashamed he turned into a fucking cousin-banging drunked std-carrying toothless hick when he started working with dimebag darrell.

  • @LameStaley this is America we all fuck our cousins white black Mexican all cousin fuckers sorry if you don't have a hot cousin.

  • David Allan Coe is a true Musician outlaw.

  • This is an awesome song!

  • Anyone know what tuning hes in?

i know the studio version is E standard but this one is much better to me

  • @justincider75 you are the one who needs to go down... on a dictionary dumbass this is how you correctly spell garbage!

  • kw3 aint shit. just an imposter riding his daddys name with college hippies tagging along. DAC is real country

  • True outlaw no one can come close to hem

  • Wow. This is such an awesome song! I feel cheated never hearing this before!

  • This guy was great when i saw him live for the first time 4 years ago, but age finally caught up with him and last two times ive seen him his shows were very short and he had to sit the entire time.... sad to see when an old dog is too loyal to stop but to tired to do it right...

  • @gonnabeufc I know what you mean. First time I seen Coe was at Ziggys in Winston. He was just getting over the flu and it was not a good show. 6 months later in Galax Va he ripped the roof off!

  • @gonnabeufc let him do it till hes in the ground, he deserves it. and bury him with an old beat up g-fiddle and a new one too

  • You can't compare anyone to Hank Williams. The only two that come close are Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash. DAC is still good in my book though.

  • great. but be armed with songs.

  • im from alabama i moved to mississippi when i was 13, shorly after my grandpaw passed, we grew up on an AKA( farm ) but that was home, and where i was raised.. i love the south,my roots, my rights, and my country,

  • 5 PEOPLE WEREN'T BROUGHT UP RIGHT...

  • Dac is a living legend

  • Song makes me cry and think of my grandparents.

  • Darn got song. It's just the guitar and him.

  • that is definately a picture of ohio right there, looks like where i grew up

  • I think Hank Wiliams had alot of humility. Seeing DAC in concert is like listening to him tell how great he is. I like DAC but heard he can be a real ahole!

  • It sure will. I never heard of anyone coming up north to retire.

  • The south will rise agin

  • @Pimptcw no it wont

  • Smoke fat one get drunk

  • SEE THE DAY THEY SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN!

  • @coltboyd Doesn't matter what race, i can see whites/blacks aligning in the south.... did you hear about that North Carolina kid that hung the confederate flag in his window

  • Tanya Tucker had a version on this on an album from '77, I'd love to hear it! This song and video are stunning, what imagery about the real traditional America and family, I long for those days.

  • cAN'T FIGURE OUT YET, WHO DID IT BETTER, DAVID OR GEORGE... LOVE THEM BOTH TH... LOVE THE LAST VERSE THAT GEORGE DOES.

  • makes me think of grandpaw and daddy.

  • This vid. reminds me of growin' up on the farm in NH. Haying, logging, hoeing the gardens and pukin' after a hard days work. DAC is THE man!!

  • Linda cancion amigos de usa.

  • I don't care much for DAC but I do like this version of the song. It's not as good as George Jones' but I couldn't find a video for that one.

  • hank 3 and DAC

  • Four ppl are fucking cunt ass douche bags. Long live the outlaws of country music! Thumbs up if you agree!

  • I love this song!

  • 4 people suck hahaha

  • a true outlaw

  • Too bad YouTube won't put up ALL the songs from "Nothing Sacred" and "Underground Album" and the "18 Greatest X-rated Hits" compilation--peoplle are really missing out on some good shit there!!! BTW-- II was first introduced to DAC down in NC 18 years ago--way before I heard any of the X-rated shit....and I loved it from the music from the start!!

  • David Allan Coe is the man

  • love this song

  • no artist is a fraud, it only matters whether you like the art or not. enjoy the ride.

  • Used to listen to Coe extensively as a kid until I was in my early 20s. It was a time during which there was still access to all his music on new vinyl and I had them all. I really enjoyed his brashness and surly demeanor and thought, with his past that he was the baddest dude around. He sure could pen a song, for sure. But he turned out to be a fraud as far as reputation goes. No death row. Petty theft. Just a crazy guy. Now, I realize, as an adult that he is a shameless self-promoter. A fraud.

  • @whomejohn

I think we can safely say he's a 'fraud' inasmuch as his life story is a product of his own creation, and probably apt to exaggeration. Yeah, Coe is a bullshitter.. Nevertheless, the man is still a creative genius. People who bought into the DAC 'image' probably didn't care much about his music anyway. They're the country-music version of kids who listen to gangsta-rap for the 'image' it conveys. The difference is, Coe was actually writing great music.

  • @RoofFiddler Agreed, completely. Thanks.

  • i miss my grampa been awhile now,

  • argueably the greatest song ever written

  • @kearnsification

very simple, yet so heart touching and amazing

  • Comment removed

  • What a song, George Jones has a great version too; did DAC write it? What year is this, I'd say the mid to late '70's?

What a neat, simple video of the salt of the earth American family farmer...

  • DAC started his career on TOP. One of the most wonderfull songs I've ever heard in my life. David? thanks and lets hear another ballad...you are awesome...here.

  • Dont hear many songs like this these days

  • I meet Dave through my son's family. True redneck through and through. If ya'll don't know, he's Ohio blood. There's alot in common between him and I on our views. The thing is, lots of people have his point of view. They just don't know it. We all love you Dave. Fuck Canada Mist! I'll drink Jack when you die.

  • A working mans song.

  • DAC may be the only one that we could compare to Hank Williams.

  • @superevilposm What about Wayne The Train Hancock?

  • @seeitasitis Ya know, I really like Hancock. I was really into DAC when I was a kid (16 to 25 y/o) and just dont have the time anymore to drink beer and listen to music like I did then. So I just hav'nt heard enough of Hancock yet. What I have listened to is great.

  • @seeitasitis 87th southbound

  • @seeitasitis Or Hank III? He sounds a lot like Sr. IMO

  • @seeitasitis Or Hank III

  • Comment removed

  • @superevilposm I AGREE. DAC IS THE BEST

  • @superevilposm

Well I love David!!! But I do think that Waylon, Johnny Cash and Willie fall into this catagory too. Love them all ! (Including Hank)

  • @superevilposm Hank williams almsot shot my Great Grandpa.

  • @superevilposm Ever hear of Hank williams the third????? He is Hank WIlliams Reincarnation!!

  • @superevilposm hey man, that comment is out of line. there is no way that Hank III is in the same league as DAT. David Allan Cole is a true original man. All I see with Hank III is a lame copycat trying to shock

  • @greywallpaper Know what you're talking about before you speak, pal. First of all it's DAC, not DAT. Second, It's David Allan Coe, not Cole. Third, the comparison is to Hank Williams Sr, not Hank Jr, not Hank Williams III. That said--great tune.

  • @greywallpaper I no what I am talking about m8. Like I say, it is insulent 2 compare Cole 2 Hank III (I relise he is Hank Sr),. I never confused Hank Sr (Hank III) with Hank Jr. To me Hank Jr is a little boy trying 2 recrate his grand-daddy's work. I grew on DAT, and have all his albums ma. LONG LIVE THE LONGHAIR'S REDNECK!

  • @superevilposm DAT may be the only one we could compare to Charley Pride

  • @superevilposm ha....

  • @superevilposm To me they all have different styles and voices, but my favorite is Waylon Jennings. His voice is awesome.

  • @superevilposm

He's good no doubt, but don't forget the surroundings. A filmaker who had the guts to put all those great outlaw country man into a movie. (This is a foreign point of view I must admit, don't know if they got enough coverage in the U.S but in Europe coverage of David, Townes, Steve, Guy in the 70s, 80s was zero to none.)

  • @opiumrebel Well, you see...thats how good they are. Their music didnt need the coverage. People like us went out and found them. I'm sure you were at one time looking for something more than what was popular. They got a little airplay here in the states. Your point of view is very good.

  • @superevilposm could we say Hank 3? haha seriously though.

  • @superevilposm Or Merle Haggard.

  • @watsonvillian in fact, DAC was compared to Merle Haggard, not Merle Haggard compared to him. That is fact

  • This is great but I wish some one would put up all the old one you can not find anymore

  • As far a the whole holstered pistol they show at the end, that is absolutely 100% for-certain the underside of an autoloading pistol and NOT a watergunl. I'm a pretty big gun nut and own plenty just like it. In 1974, they didn't make replica guns that looked like that and to be honest, even in 2010, the fake guns today come kinda close, but definitely not *that* close

Yeah he's a felon and technically shouldn't have had it, but the guy's a fucking free spirit and does as he wishes. Who cares.

  • beautiful!!

  • My favorite david allen coe song- one of the few I like. If anyone can tell me some more songs like this I'd really appreciate it.

  • @subterranean47 -play em all, but a lot of really good ones have been yanked by WMG

  • @subterranean47

Look at "Heavenly Father, Holy Mother."

Relatively unknown, but a fantastic song.

  • Yeah that's a good one. I still can't find any that I like half as much as this one though.

  • pure

  • SkUmDiCtAtOr ur the dumbshiy fuckin pussy!!! NO Fuck head Im not a felon. I used to work security for DAC asshole! I didnt say he would fuck around with something fake u stupid peice of shit!!!! I was referring to the other comments saying it was fake u stupid ass! I said it wasnt fake. maybe ur the dumbass half wit! Go fuck urself and die u retarded fuck!!!! As far as being a pussy, im a former Navy SEAL. Yeah U can say im a pussy if you want to. Coe and i used to ride!

  • Liar.Say what you will and do.You are a liar.

  • This song reminds me of a being a kid out in the country.

  • GREAT!

  • Im sure after being in prison he isn't allowed to have a gun. (you know being a felon and all) I dont think water pistols looked that real back then. I think I would say it was fake too if it would send me back to prison!!!!! Not saying Im right but just my opinion.

  • @MrJK13 ur a pussy half wit u actually think coe would fuck around with some bullshit something fake, go kill urself oh wait felons cant have guns .....let me guess u no one thug n got busted for armed robbery now ur preaching to people, simmer down before u go talk some shit while u were getting ass fucked in county coe was writing music n plannin .......here u are on youtube, arnt u a cool felon

  • yep some may call me a redneck even though im not from the south!live here in southern vermont .although i do love the southern traditions and wish i could afford to move to my most loved southern state s.carolina!i truly beleive in another life i was a rebel son god bless the south..this here yankee sure does love them southern ways.and if that aint country you can kiss my ass

  • Everyone thinks Texas has great gun laws, but I don't think any State comes close to Vermont's respect for a person's right to defend their life.

  • @seeitasitis Really?

  • @seeitasitis I don't know about that...Arizona just removed the CCW permit law...SO...now we need not spend a dime for the right to carry...

  • @JeffreyRodgersMP - Vermont has always been like that. Arizona is not bad, but Vermont is the mother fucking shit when it comes to respecting the right to be armed.

  • @seeitasitis

Too bad it's filled with democrat voting vermin

  • @seeitasitis vermont are you fucking kidding me?

  • @seeitasitis haha wisconsin dosent

  • @seeitasitis Texas Good gun laws? You can't even open carry there! BTW what is this video from.

  • @GODZILLAMANASS

This comes from the documentary "Heartworn Highways"- probably the single most important document on country music ever set to film, yet shockingly under-appreciated and somewhat unknown outside of hardcore enthusiasts. I cannot recommend it highly enough. In addition to a lot of DAC, you have performances by Charlie Daniels, Guy Clark, Gamble Rogers, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle and what in my opinion is the single most underrated country music artist ever, Larry Jon Wilson.

  • @RoofFiddler Figured it out on my my own, I own a copy on DVD now, I cherish it like gold.

  • @seeitasitis In Europe nobody carry guns. And guess what ? nobody gets shot

  • well,,thats a cool post man. Hope ya make down to south carolina soon. that soil might feel well familiar to you.

    Enjoy Virginia on the way

  • @totaltreecare68 Dont worry, d a c himself is a yankee! From the north as well!

  • @totaltreecare68 I live in South Carolina, it's a beautiful state. You should move here when you can, definitely a good state to live in if you like the rebel state of mind.

  • @totaltreecare68 hello from Alabam brother! Damn refreshing post.

  • @totaltreecare68 move to south louisiana its probly cheaper then over in vermont

  • @totaltreecare68 It's good to see that some people are open minded to southern ways.I hope you don't let anyone change you beliefs.I assume you are in the tree buisness as am i so stay safe and take care.

  • @stakfan

God bless the South, the war was much more about States' rights and sovereignty vs. a powerful and sometimes oppressive National Gov't. We are headed in that direction again unfortunately, I pray that it turns out well and peaceful.

  • @totaltreecare68 we wud love to have ya here..born and raised in the mtns of NC and wud never ever consider movin any where else..plus we make the best damn shine around :)

  • @totaltreecare68 hell yea im from Jersey every one calls me a redneck

  • @totaltreecare68 i know lots of people who live in yank states that respect our heritage

  • @totaltreecare68 I'm From Central Pennsylvania and I'm right there with you buddy. I used to think i'd fight for the North during the Civil War....... Now my hearts in the south, I'm not for enslaving another man, although i could care less, but the South knows whats up, they aren't afraid to show their love of God, Guns, Family Principals, Respect & just general hospitality.

  • @totaltreecare68 Being from SC I can relate to your post. I would hate to leave SC; I'm not sure I could do it for any reason.

  • what an awesome song. and for yalls information, i was born in cape cod, mass, raised in virginia, and now i live in kentucky. they tell me here im the definition of the word redneck.take it from me, its not where youre from that defines you. its who you are.

  • not nesacerly he is not a yank!! just because he is from the north dont make him one. do you know why people are called rednecks and hillbillies? country music orginates from the hilles in ohio the coul miners and shit started the first hillbilly music and actualy the hillbillies in ohio didnt want nothing to do with the gov take a fucking history lesson hank the hick

  • DAC is from Akron Ohio, so i guess hes a yank

  • How much hay have I hulled???

  • Is it possible that a man can listen to DAC without wanting to drink whiskey and beat up Yankees? What a song.

  • No, not really. But all Yankees are not jackasses.

  • amen !!!!!!!!!!

  • i love it when artists play with just them and a guitar. it feels so real

  • gosh. just a great singer, songwriter, musician, everything

  • god hes read my mind latley, i sure miss my popaw, hes was a great guitar player

  • Man thats a great song and video . Love that old stuff .

  • I hear a lot of songs i don't like, but i got to say when you hear one you like its like there wasn't a time when you didn't know it. Great song thats for the add.

  • dude. he's got a effin pistol on his hip. so badass.

  • it's a water pistol bro. check your facts

  • yeah next time I'll make sure I check my facts before I make such a fucking crazy statement like that. you d bag

  • Yeah it's a water pistol. Check the unreleased DAC documentary films (bootleg copies are available if ya dig but DAC wouldn't allow an official release) where he talks about the incident

  • thanks for having my back on this one bro. So-called DAC fans need to check their facts when the correct info (from Coe's own mouth) is out there in the public domain.

  • Forgot to give the title of the DAC documentary - it's FIELD OF STONE

  • I would like to see those facts, this was filmed in 1975/76 and it is not uncommon for ranchers and farmers to wear or carry a gun on the farm/ranches to kill rattle snakes and such, DAC was a badass and I dont think he would be filmed with a water gun on his hip lol

  • Yeah DAC was definitely a badass at that time , I totally agree, but as the other guy points out DAC talks about this in the unreleased documentary on Coe 'Field of Stone" that was completed a few years back. If you look hard you can track down a bootleg copy on some corner of the internet

  • Not a water-gun...recheck your facts Bro.

  • This song makes me miss my grandpal. I want to thank Scott L. I never knew about this song till you showed it to me. It makes me cry... I miss my PaulPaul so much. When I hear this song It brings a tear to my eye. I Love ya PaulPaul.... He also had a flag across his casatic . He was my hero! He was the only man that ever truly loved me. If only I could find anynother man to love me like my PaulPaul did.

  • DAC is the only one who wasnt afraid to go outside of the box and he never got the respect he deserves , but with me he has my respect 100%

  • I don't care if you wear a wig sing out of tune whatever.Last of the real men on this earth.Fuck the haters! Thanks for helpin me. A true soul you are David. Im glad I met you.!

  • the old guy feeding the cows that`s DAC`s dad

  • oh no way im 17 and still keepin it alive!

  • amen! im only 16

  • Wow, that looks just like the property I grew up on, down to the truck cab, only we had just one cow and 20 dachshunds. And it was in the North. :)

  • Dont say that if you dont want to hear the whisky talking for me once again.

  • Thank you!

  • ive not heard this song before seein this video im a big dac fan, this song slipped by me somehow thanks for postin it..

  • nobody can write a good true country soung like this any more its all just rap any more!!!

  • I could name several, but let's just start with Hank 3.
