I enjoy POLARS way more then the two albums with the new guy. Polars is just fucking amazing. I can't even say anything, you just gotta listen to it start to finish. Their music with the new guy sounds alright it seems overproduced and nothing really stands out.

not really, the riffs are similar, but if you want to play that game, you can say gojira ripped off meshuggah too with the song esoteric surgery, even though the phrasing is different, the tempo is slower. what you meant to say was the second riff reminds you of beneath, not rips it off.

It is a little bit different, the reason it sounds so similar is because the left hand technique in beneath i have not really hear in any other song before

Original in the way that there is no fucking band out there that sounds like meshuggah:S. Meshuggah created single handly a completely different style which is fucking insane in the metal scene today. I like both bands and don't really think they are alike. Meshuggah doesn't go out of 4/4 much, textures actually does. Respect to both bands man, they're both unique in their style.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of simple-minded morons out there that feel obligated to let everybody know how cool they think they are by likening a band like Textures to Meshuggah. Highly annoying. Gee, I must have missed all the Devin Townsendesque melodic vocal sections in all my Meshuggah albums. I must have skipped over the Pantera throwback thrash riffs, too. Do some research before you compare bands, you stupid assholes. Not every 'technical metal' band is ripping off Meshuggah.

Actually, they're quite different in a way because Textures actually uses a lot of odd time signatures, what Meshuggah seldom does. Meshuggah plays around a 4/4 beat practically all the time.

im not saying i totally agree with idub but i have already downloaded the new textures cd and with "drawing circles" also being a great album, i dont think its the stupidest thing ive ever heard either. we should wait to see what textures come up with next. i definatly find them more interesting then meshuggah at the moment since obzen is great but more in a way we already know of meshuggah.

They're both unquestionably sick bands. But (as much hate as i'm gonna get for this comment), the thing holding this band back the most is the vocalist. The music is INCREDIBLE!!! but i think they need someone with a "heavier" voice Like Jens Kidman of Meshuggah. Whoever this guy is belongs in a metalcore band (if he can sing that is) which isn't bad but just doesn't work for the band, imo.

Man, I Dont Know How You Can Compare The Two, They Changed Styles Drasticall On Drawing Circles, Pieter Verpaalen Was An Amazing Vocalist On Polars And In That Area Of Their Style, The New Singer Brought The Heaviness Level Down BigTime From Polars, Listen To The Second Half Of The Song Polars. I agree strongly with every part of this comment. The new guy is good but he is not using his full potential. You can hear some impressive displays of his abilites when it comes to his singing, but he needs to do more of that. The band seems to be taking the easier road these days as far as the songwriting goes. There are some standout songs from the newer material, but the overall impact of these latest albums are blown away by that of Polars.

They might as well have changed their name with this new direction as their songs are less "textured" and expressive than before. I'm guessing they had more time to develop the first album and now perhaps they have to complete consecutive albums within a given time due to a record contract. Nothing personal, Textures. I think the band has put out some extremely outstanding, powerful, unique, and tasteful music and deserve respect for their genuine art.
