Occupy/social movements; take note of what happened to the hippies. You should learn from their mistakes, put less emphasis on the psychadelic drug aspect & focus on the practical process of building the foundation for a society that works together & encourages innovation & progress; for the better good of all humanity. I think the Woodstock concert was an excellant platform to get the message out, but after the party, things need to be implemented. Movements need to be less abstract; applied
Here's my insight. This cultural movement was a get away propelled by drugs. This culture just like others in the past was destined to end because it did not involve science but a backward spirituality and dead end ideology. Yes there are problems in the societies but we need worker's revolution and a cultural movement to keep the society productive. Hippy Tribes in Goa ended up badly with cocaine and heroine. It was an essential experiment but its wise not to repeat mistakes from the past.
It's so absurd how teenagers now a days call themselves "hispters" and think they're continuing this movement when in reality they're just keeping up with the fashion sense that 'hippies' had. The day of existentialism were these days.
@edrixie they became the souless baby boomers in ads for retirement income funds....sad...I truly hope some of them are still true to their beliefs though, I really admire true hippies.
@edrixie hippies are still out there actually, changed their style a bit, became a little more new-millenium in their look and stuff but still a lot of hippy havens and some communes still exist to this day. some in india, in europe the capital of the hippies has to be amsterdam in the netherlands, in US some communes can be found on the outskirts of New Mexico. yup, hippies are still around

Now that I am watching these I realized that the new hippies of today are the occupy wallstreet protesters.
Would they all going to fail like the hippies of the 1960's?

@Dank951 there's a huge difference between hipsters and hippies. The only thing we can fight to get done these days is legalization of marijuana.
