  • "Montreal Drumfest " , 12 years ago , jam sesion for 2 hours with drummer and bass. What a souvenir : )

  • WOW!!!!!! I think thats a temple block or one of the newer plastic blocks, they are plastic but have great tone and projection. Either way it's incredible and tight.

  • WOW!!!!!!

  • It was song mungo santamaria did with his drum group..song called mocunsere...

  • @sailingfreak24 mango and macunsere (just a small detail)

  • listening is half of learning and being able to interpert

  • They are great. But..no no...no.... Guaguanco, I've heard much much better. This is pretty much a weak attempt at Cuban percussion

  • 2:3 rumba clave?

  • i hope that you> Karl and Raul, are friends as well, and not only advanced players. Because music has become to be a business in these times of (2)10's... I know how the album Supernatural by Santana was released and I know am sure, that the name of the album came from some manager of the Arista company. It is very good music on that album, but unfortunatelly not natural because of some unwanted guests suggested by the manager... :-)

  • Chingon!!!!!

  • conga santana .. super!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Can you pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time? It's just like that... No difference... None... at all!... Not in the least ...bit...!

the funk block was confusing me lol

  • GRANDES !!!!!! MAESTROS !!!!

  • woh i didnt notice the one guy had 2 congas until he got a different veiw

  • trying to learn this....its looks really hard and is even harder when you try to play it :P

  • Comment removed

  • 6/8's?

  • @flaviocalavera 4/4... they play 6/8 over it sometimes

  • GREAT STUFF GUYS, LOVE IT.

  • I'd like to live in an island, at a village where this music sounded all day long

  • anyone have the lyrics to this?

  • ''excelente ejecusion''..maferefun chango.

  • yo no le veo errores y suena bien pero bien sabroso pa algo que fue logrado con 2 percussionistas [i found no errors and it sounded damn good for something that was done by 2 percussionists ]

  • 

  • Good video, onli 2 guyz sounds a beautifull yambu,

GREAT! Thank s to these 2 legends of percussions

  • @machogato08 VERDAD VERDAD VERDAD MI HERMANO!!!

  • yeah yeah we all know what the clave is, but do you know candombe a music played only in my contry, played in argentina also, but originated in the montevideo sea port. has the same clave as the son check it out, candombe... tasteful

  • i was there ;-))))) ahahhha

    greetings from italy :-)

  • Grandes. Muestran mas cosas buenas que malas. Ademas en concierto son tremendos.

  • chaco, here we go with the who on what bulshit these 2 cats are keeping the tradition cuba the islands I play abig percussion setup ilive in cleveland an the disease of sorry comments is all around all i can say is karl an raul bless u guys and those who make so call re marks show them ur pay checks

  • actualy its a latin percussion jam block made to resemble ethier a clave or wood block

  • its a wood block not a clave...

  • call it a wood/jam block regardless of the name u want to use, what people are refering to is the patern being played called "clave" , in case u didnt know clave translates to "key" in english and its given this name as this is the key to unlock all misteries of ALL afro-cuban patterns as well as rythms, not only that it sets the direction the patterns are meant to be played wether 2/3 side or 3/2, son/rumba and for 6/8 clave only has 3/2 side never 2/3, but also aplies to pianos, bass, and more

  • I note the criticisms - so many great and famous percussionists jumping in there with their advice and guidance... oh wait - I never heard of any of you ? (with apologies to the constructive critics)

  • its alright johny, in the end it shows that we are all human even the goodones and can make little mistakes. I quite enjoyed the video regardles, nice yambu, love it when they sing in the begining sounds very cuban...love it, like cachao said "got to keep the tradition alive" and even though im not cuban and neither are the 2 of them it shows that if you got the soul can still sound cuban.

  • Both Karl and Raul are excellent percussionists, but I agree they over-reached on this one. Unfortunately, many percussionists these days are suffering from the "Octopus Syndrome", started in the 50s by an, otherwise, excellent percussionist: Walfredo de los Reyes Senior. It is economic, but at a cost to the corner-stone of Afro-Cuban rhythms (La Clave). This must drive old masters like Los Papines crazy, as they used one of their four guys for the past 60 years simply to preserve the clave.

  • That's tough to keep a clave going while playing the congas and singing.

  • @rdaniels95 thats not a clave. thats a temple block hahaha but true that

  • tasty solo conga chops. not bad for an amazing timbalero

  • tasty solo conga chops. not bad for an amazing timbalero

  • But guys, What is the problem? It's up to him to play that clave. I mean, Have you ever try to play that clave and sing at the same time? For me, He is playing good. I think It is great to see them. Raul Rekow is awesome, the man of hot hands. Guys, It is not that simple to play and sing. Think about it!

  • Instead of sweating and trying hard, Karl should have asked somebody from audience to play that clave...but he is da man anyway!

  • bongomanikk - I eagerly await your video response to Re: "an example of DEPENDENCE. Sorry" . Thank you.

  • Mr Perazzo, I like your style, but this is an example of DEPENDENCE. Sorry

  • Give me a break....Karl is an extra class percussionist, but this performance...hmm....pointless to play quinto and clave simultaneously if you can t keep time..tension in his face speaks for itself...but the rest is good

  • I wish karl actually played the timbales in this one

  • Oh boy, I take my hat off to these guys. To the haters out there posting negative comments: who are you playing for? Man, these guys are amazing but they are human also.

  • Karl did amazing!!!!! He is the best

good-looking guy who knows how 2 play.. that's awesome!!

  • Much respect to Paul and Karl..beautiful chants...But to be honest, Karl really didn´t hold that clave properly, he dropped off more times and around 2:55 he lost himself and turned clave around and was able to come back around 3:25..Percussionists are trying to be multifunctional these days, but time keeping is essential. But this was in 2000, I´m sure Karl is nailing that clave down today without problems..and his quinto solo was awsome...

  • Beautiful. I never get sick of listening to theses guys. Thankfuly they're back inOz in Feb 2008. Got the tickets in my hand and can't wait.

  • that was tight.

  • muy buenooo!!

  • Thanks Guys!

  • What song is this they are singing? Can somebody tell me please?!!! Beautiful!!

  • John5699,

They are performing two yambu (slow Cuban rumba)songs from the Afro Roots Album by Mongo Santamaria: "Yambu" and "Macunsere". Some big names on that classical fifties (!) record: Armando Peraza, Willie Bobo, Francisco Aguabella, Mongo of course.

  • This song is from their dvd and cd called just another day in the park.

  • wat i woulda done if i was the timbalero woulda been use the cajete pedal on the block and play the conga with the hands =D and yeah man cut him a break he's multi tasking ! =)

  • Waz up Karl.Great percussionist granted. But your mouth is louder then your solos .Stop making negative noises about me.3 words , Marcus Israel Lopez...........

  • Karl's the best. Orestes Vilato's heir in Santana Band. Amazing

  • MMMHHH.. He is good, but not the best.

  • lol, so?

  • Loudogg You can sit home and only dream of doing what this man has done to latin music "You are an Idiot"

  • A good bata was missing here!

  • lucumi executes a santero subject yoruba, years before touched to Orestes Vilato timbal (O.Ray Barretto) and Armando Peraza conga (O.CAL TJADER) the QUALITY IS LEARNED.

  • tasty solo conga chops. not bad for an amazing timbalero

  • Giovanni Hidalgo is the best of thw world, my God, Giovanni Hidalgo te amo pana

  • Karl IS the best. I've never seen such precision in a Timbalero. Karl & Raul are trying to simulate the sounds that are created by a whole drum circle, that is usually made up of 6 to ten guys. I think that's pretty freakin' amazing.

  • He did drop the clave twice. But shit, he's playing clave with his left hand, pattern on right and was singing coro! Cut him a break.

  • To the guy who wrote the last comment, you couldn't hold Karl's stick bag.

The man is one of the best.

  • Karl needs to learn how to hold down that clave...

  • haha heres a video of a professional who does sessions and clinics while u sit on ur ass and knock him cuz he goes off a few times. just disregard the rest of the kick ass video why dont u u angry nerd!

    great video, they rock!
