  • I didn't think the TF movies were that bad.

  • This is a good question. WHY, HOLLYWOOD?! WHY?!!

  • I wish Watchmen came out this summer instead of back in March

  • commando,star wars,twister,independence day to name a few

hollywood has been doing this for years

  • i liked the third transformers but the others are not that great

  • 20, 10 or even 5 years ago movies were MUCH better.I miss the good old way of being entertained. Today's movies are stupid, full of sex, voilence and they have no message and make you feel disappointed.Don't get me wrong - I love horror movies wich are full of violence, but at least they have a certain kind of style And don't forget the stupid remakes, se- and prequels. t makes me sad that many young mainstream-stupid people don't even KNOW the magic of a movie that touches something inside of u

  • This might be off topic but, what did you think of Sucker Punch? I didn't like it but I didn't dislike it either.

  • What seems to be happening, is that Hollywood is taking from what's already been made in some way shape or form, and making a Live Action film from it, then they know they don't have to put much effort into them because they know people will flock to see it no matter the flaws.

    Plus society's getting dumber!

  • @MegaYTcritic exactly

  • i think this stuff started in the 80s with sequels to starwars, superman, and indy

  • You should do a sequel to this review, theres a Smurfs movie now.

  • I like the humor in Transformers but the sex and drugs shit has got to stop

  • Do a review of Independence Day and Armageddon

  • I agree, the time of year is no excuse not to try. Though, I think the real problem is that Hollywood is not choosing the right directors for their films. Michael Bay didn't do a horrible job with "Transformers" but it could have been a lot better. Then he gave us the sequel which was one of the most god-awful pieces of shit I had ever seen. I know its the "Transformers" but in the hands of the right director you can make just about anything work.

  • I call Transformers movies now twilight for guys lol

  • people keep saying shit about transformers 1, but it is better action wise than 90% of superhero, sci fi and fantasy films, the shots, the cgi, the score, absolutely phenominal but just because the plot isnt 100% they would rather have us watch something that has crappy action, score, and is generally boring just because they think the plot doesnt have any holes, well i say fuck that and fuck them

  • agreed man. the last film i saw with heart and thought in the way your describing was either avatar or cloverfeild what did you think of those movies.

  • @jamielogan666 Avatar was just another mindless Blockbuster with the same overused plot line, (Humans are evil) or (The white man is evil) yes I understnd no ned to make a CGI film with blue aliens to let me know that. it would have bored me to tears if it hadnt had beautiful CGI.

  • as far as Hollywood goes I think they took that route probably around 2000 or so. Probably also when movies when to special effects to try and cover acting and/or writing.

  • as far as Hollywood goes I think they took that route probably around 2000 or so. Probably also when movies when to special effects to try and cover acting and/or writing.

  • the people you say are stupid sound just like my school when i ask them about a movie.

  • What's the song you use for the intro.

  • Thanks for the venom-My Chemical Romance.

  • I'll tell you when these stupid blockbusters started coming out.

Independence Day,Twister,The Lost World, and Armageddon made alot of money and more stupid blockbusters started to come out. Well that's when people stop caring about quality movies.

  • @o2theh commando and star wars (the first one) to me

  • I really couldn't tell you man. But here's something to think about: generally speaking, they never did.

But nowadays, it's worse because, of course, now!, now they don't evenhave the time to CARE!

  • (wheezing/coughing) That title. Lol. It's great.

  • terminator 2 was fun and smart too

  • wow, best comment ever!

  • @jgavingoldsmith sadly true my friend.

  • Another thing about Death Race is it shouldn't be rated R.

  • Agreed, it wasn't too racy at all (no pun intended).

  • haven't seen the movie but is it any good?

  • I thought Death Race was pretty fun,so if you're looking for that by all means check it out.Although you will probably never watch it again.

  • is it anything like this?

  • You mean Transformers.

  • yea. is it the same quality of fail as this?

  • No where near Transformer level fail.

  • thank goodness. i was scared for a sec

  • I think the new Star Trek was exempt for the most part from the stupidity of the summer blockbuster, what do you think?

  • You're very right blowshimselfupdude

movies today in general just suck, and they seem to always have the same issue that all todays movies and shows and even video games have: better visuals, but less charm and personality

todays movies are not only less intelligent, but, compared to the films and shows of yesterday, are worth nothing but shit. we just don't know how to make good films anymore. thumbs down me if you want, its only my opinion, but one I've put a lot of thought in

  • Plenty probably agree with you, games and movies also suffer from less heart and are more about appealing to their audience and showing big explosions.

  • True.

Intelligence is SO yesterday it appears. At least in films, and video games too. Remember all the epic games of the day? Sonic, Super mario 64, Banjo Kazooie....the list goes on. All of these were so well made, yet today, most video games stopped trying to be fun and simple and just tried to be dark and sophisticated and shit. Not all of them, but a lot. Reallly, I haven't played a REALLY good game in a long time. They were so much better back in the day.....

  • Honestly with todays consoles being highly graphically capable I still haven't seen anything thats impressed me more then Kirbys Adventure or Megaman 2, both which are NES games. Infact I usually find myself playing Playstation 1 games more then any of my new stuff, like movies games just want to deliver what we supposebly want rather than dare to be different and with DLC it seems like you don't get everything when you buy a new game. Man what I'd do to get my old consoles working better.

  • I have Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario on Nintendo 64!:D

    They're classic games!

  • I know right? Those games WEREf my childhood. (I love them so much I have them on my n64 emulator xD Yeah I know sad right? ^^) *sigh* I miss games like that. I like spyro too, but they're way different from ther old ones.

  • Same here too, man.Anything that was Nintendo or that were my childhood.

    A Nintendo64 emulator?I've never seen them before so I don't know what's so sad about that.:/

I've never played Spyro before but Crash Bandicoot(the old games of it)was more fun to play.

  • ^_^ Right? I've never play Crash bandicoot but I've heard hes a classic character.

yeah and an n64 emulator is basically a virtual console on your computer that plays n64 games. (I'm THAT much of a geek. xD)

but sadly I've never owned a Playstation. :(

  • what's bad is that they try to act like they're some epic dramas, and yet they're plotless and idiotic

  • @AngelofLightX4 Why don't you buy a Wii? Super mario galaxy is fun. Your comment is so different to how most singleplayer gamers view the current game world it's not even funny. He's talking about movies not being intelligent and you support him by making a comment about video games recessing back to mindless fun of Arcade Games. I'd trade Banjo Kazooie for Bioshock anyday.

  • THen again you do not think Tim Burton is a good director

  • Summer humor

Ron to Harry in Half Blood Prince

"Did you and Ginny Do it?"

    hidden joke

    I care

  • I think the first Blockbuster came out in 1914. I don't know if it came out in summer or not but I know what you mean. Jaws was awesome. Steven Spielbergs best. Robert Shaw, Roy Sneider and Richard Dreyfuss were one of the greatest combinations.

  • I did not enjoy this movie much at all, I would have fallen asleep if it wasn't so fucking loud

  • Amen. I can tell you why, because as a whole, America is becoming less educated.

  • hey. you're wrong man. It aint just america. I come from Singapore and situation with stupid films and people liking them is the absolute same here. I think its a worldwide thing.

  • I just wish people would stop calling this years Transformers...T2. That pile of shit was not Terminator 2.

  • I gotta hand it to you man. You really know what you are talking about, i like transformers 2 at first but when i saw it the second time i realized how bad the story was and how many plot holes there were. Though i think that wolverine is a far worse offender of this than transformers.

  • You make a really good point, dude. Especally when you mentioned Jaws and Die Hard. Although I do like the Transformers live action movies, they're not my favorite summer blockbusters, nor are they anywhere in my top 50 favorite movies (that is if I could think of a top 50 list). I mostly go for any type of entertainment in movies.

  • "Only a Prime can kill the Fallen".

-WHY? They never developed this theme to mean anything and you wait two hours and a bit to see a one sided 30 second fight scene.

  • Many people commented that this film was bad, but I enjoyed it (reasonably). Just like fireworks, just enjoy the color and sounds.

  • I agree with you. I wish Watchmen came out this summer instead of back in March so I could go to the theater and have something worth watching. I refuse to see the new Transformers movie.

  • I think you mean peaople who except it because there self esteem is so low.

  • or they just don't like it because they don't like it?

we don't have to all like the same things. we are entitled to our opinions, and have the right to fair critisism.

  • In addition I would argue that audiences did 'turn their brains off' for stuff like DIE HARD, JAWS, ALIENS etc. Just because critics and film buffs came to praise those films for being well-crafted examples of the formula doesn't mean that your average joe on the street liked them for those reasons.

Some people probably literally liked JAWS back in '75 because there was a killer shark or DIE HARD because Bruce Willis was shooting foreign bad guys and not because it was smarter than usual.

  • Of course! However, regardless if stupid people watched it or not, people who like smart movies can still take it. Nowadays you can only be stupid and say it's good.

  • The Star Trek movie is a reminder that summer blockbusters can be fun AND intelligent without being dark.

To answer your question 'When did this happen?'. When producers and studios started hiring directors who weren't good or competent storytellers (Michael Bay, McG),

  • McG?

  • the movie wasn't that bad...geez....

  • Yes. Yes it was.

  • Well, whatever. I liked it. I just wished there was more action and more screen time and character developement with the transformers because that is what the movie is about...but Revenge of the Fallen will make up for that I hope!

  • That's exactly why it's bad. Transformers are good for three things intresting characters, awsome battles, and really weird far out there mythology. The movie didn't give any of those.

The trailers for ROTF looks like it will deliver on maybe the action. But the first movies trailers made it look like an epic action movie too. So idk.

  • @blowshimselfupdude I liked the first Transformers I don't care what everyone else say, that's just my opinion.

  • @blowshimselfupdude its called different opinions

  • I think Transformers & GI Joe are excepted for being dumb because of them being based of toys/cartoons where all they did was fight. I liked Transformers & GI Joe could be a decent popcorn movie.

  • But they both ha da comic series that were extremely intelligent.

and it's sad when the CARTOON of Transformers is more mature and serious then the live action movie which claimed to be a more mature and serious take on transformers.

  • Yeah but what would you expect from Mr. Mindless Movie himself Michael Bay. When he's attached to something you might as well leave your brain at home.

  • But I don't want to have to leave my brain at home.

  • Have fun this summer then. The only movies that look like they'll be smart are Up & Terminator: Salvation.

  • I've heard good things about Star Trek.

  • I'm not a Trek fan, so I don't care about that movie.

  • I'm not a Trek fan ether but I still heard it was good so I'll check it out.

  • sad that the so-called fans think animated is "kiddy', despite the fact that it's more serious and intelligent than bayformers

  • Prince Caspian was a summer blockbuster, too and it grossed a lot of money, but it was considered a flop since it cost so much to make in the first place. And it flew under the radar since it was smashed in between Iron Man and Indiana Jones.

  • Oh, and I forgot to mention the Hobbit Movies.

Like I said, I really dislike our movies nowadays with the only exception being Christopher Nolan, because he actually has the soul for good movies. Brilliant.

  • I like Del Toro, Tarintino, Nolan, Kev Smith, and some others as directors.

And I like alot of Writer's at the moment.

  • These next two years are going to be mega summer blockbusters.

Between 2010 and 2011, all the super hero flicks come back. Iron Man II, The Incredible Hulk 3, Captain America, Thor, The Avengers, Spiderman 4, Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland, Mission Impossible 4, Toy Story 3, and such. And I agree with you fully, Eric, for I too want to watch a movie with

    1. Philisophical Intelligence

    2. Good Emotion and Dialogue

I dislike our films nowadays, all action and sex: NO.

    You said it!

  • Are you sure abou tHulk 3? I haven't heard anything about that.

  • I disagree. Sometimes I just get the urge to watch a movie just to see stuff get blow up. Believe me, I'm a HUGE movie fanatic, and I love films with great storylines. But films are basically for entertainment, and not all of 'em require a thoughful story or a plot riddled with twists at every turn to be enjoyed. Not saying a good story makes it bad, just saying that when I go to a movie that's about giant robots,I expect to see giant robots. By the way, Transformers had a good story, IMO.

  • You saw giant robots in Transformers? I must have blinked.

  • the thing that i hate in movies more than anything is movies that like you said dont require alot of thought because i dont know about anybody else but i really really enjoy movies that you kinda have to think even if its only for a brief moment

  • hans gruber, you should add him to your villains list.

  • There a 2 types of movies:

-movies that make you care about the plot and not too much about the action

    &

-movies like Transformers where you just want to see shit blowing up. You're not gonna care about the drama or other crap like that.

  • Fuck you. Transformers has an excellent plot and story that I care about.

  • @chosenagain Transfromers has stupid plot and if you cared about the story, than you definetly havent seen many moview.

  • i was told i was an idiot at my high school because i said that the transformers movie stupid, and they tried to defend the movie by saying the plot was great, the action scenes were amazing, and megan fox was hot

  • You might be shocked to discover the very movie you hate, "Batman", was the first summer blockbuster.

  • Um.....no it wasn't. Jaws was.

  • Well arguably Jaws was the "father" of the summer blockbuster. The next year they did the same thing with The Omen. And then the following year when Star Wars became so popular it became a yearly thing.

  • Actually, that would be Jaws.

  • Well, since Lethal weapon came out in March of 1987 I wouldn't call it a summer blockbuster.

But I do agree, I hate most of the emmerich and I nearly had a heart attack when I learned that Michael Bay was considered for Watchmen.

  • I thought it was released in the summer with Die Hard? Strange.

    Michael Bay.............for Watchmen.................oh god no.

  • If the movie is for fun, its okay. Not all movies should be educational. Once in a while, a fun movie would be nice.

  • It can be a fun movie (Jaws, Die Hard) with out being stupid (Transformers, GI Joe)

  • I understand what your trying to say but the films your using as examples like Jaws and Die Hard were not released when the "Summer Blockbuster" was even coined, so films were not made with the sole intention of being simple blockbuster popcorn draws like they are now.

  • That's completley off. Jaws was teh first summer blockbuster ever. So OBVIOUSLY Die Hard and Lethel Weapon which came much later and were summer blockbusters. Would infact be summer blockbusters.

  • I didn't think Die Hard was even out in the Summer. Or maybe the US and UK showed it at different times? I dunno.

  • Terminator 2 came out in 91 and is one of the greatest summer blockbusters of all time. Then a few years later like 95, Michael Bay makes his first movie, then since then...yeah, I blame Michael Bay. And Emmirch's style has probably hurt the industry as well, but I actually really liked Independance Day. Do you realise that conceptually Transformers should be better than Blade Runner, it should be the new Star Wars. One of the problems is that hollywood doesn't respect comic books

  • T2 is one of the smartest films ever made.

I know. What's wrong with them.

  • i think its because in a lot of modern day culture artistic reasoning is trowen out in making films especaily ones to do with pop culture i.e transformers

but even in saying that i do injoy the ocasional vegetated film

  • Great rant as always.

I do not expect a change any time soon. As long as people keep lowering their standards and consider this stuff good, it will continue to be made.

  • the reason that these movies keep getting made is that there is a market for it. If people stopped wanting movies like these, and started wanting to see thoughful movies instead, then more would probably get made.

  • I'm asking at what point did people stop wanting smart films?

  • hmm, difficult question. Possibly becuase the option to see mindnumbingly dumb films became avaible and people liked them. Its incredibly easy to just sit back and watch mindless cgi explosions.

But hopefully last years turn of good summer blockbuster movies will once again raise peoples standards.

  • I don't know. really

Once upon a time in Mexico wasn't braindead. i guess that's why johnny depp decided to do it. i mean sands had a master plan that fell apart about halfway through the movie

  • I LOVE! Once Upon a Time Mexico. But was that a summer block buster I thought it was released around august.

  • ...ah, I guess that doesn't make it a summer blockbuster. Still, good movie. It was great to see Depp play that kind of character

  • I love the part where he kills the cook.

  • He just did it like it was nothing.

  • Transformers is probably the most overrated of summer blockbusters.

  • I don't think so. Because it's got people who really love it and people who really hate it. It's not like say the Dark Knight were most people love it and there's a small vocal minority that didn't.

  • yes, but when I see that somebody likes it, I don't quite understand why, the only reasons why someone would like Transformers is:

    1. the effects

    2. Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime

    3. some of the songs in the soundtrack

    4. Megan Fox

    and that's it.

  • you forgot shia

  • umm, he says no all the time.

  • thats not a valid reason to not like him, its written in the script

  • okay, but the rest of the human cast were annoying.

  • idk i like shia i think he is a great actor but the rest of the cast yea ur right they were awful

  • yeah, especially that aussie chick, I hated her, she's not attractive.

  • i thought was really hot i think it was the accent, i love a girl with a accent, but ya she couldnt act her way out of a paper bag

  • also, every character was so stereotypical.

  • She speaked with an accent because Bay/the producers wanted the movie to have a "global" feel. To me, her accent was just out of place.

  • @gabboep1995 exactly

  • dude i share your pain

  • there is just no point with people these days, they just don't care one bit of how much they are wasting cash on badly written movies that should have been better or how much they raping our childhood, which is the worst crime a movie could do

  • I don't see it as rapping anyones child hood.

  • You're absolutely on that one. It's just like with kids movies. "Yeah, it was stupid but it's for kids so it's okay" No. Batman the animated series was for kids. That show is brilliant. There's no fucking excuse.

  • Yeah they kept saying that about Batman Brave and the Bold.

  • Hons was a bad ass. One of the best and smartest villains in a movie ever.

  • Yes Yes he was.

  • And he was played by Alan Rickman. HA!

  • It is NEVER OKAY FOR A FILM TO BE STUPID

  • Tell that to everyone else.

  • yes they have said that about all summer blockbusters!

  • better vid... gewd points, although u i do believe you went on and ranting a lil longer than what the subject deserved. but it was still a gewd vid

  • I don't care.

  • Really?

  • yes

  • Good video. It got me thinking about a conversation I had with my friend about how James Camron elevated the sci-fi genre with Aliens. He could have simply rested on his laurels so many years ago and made a shlock fest but instead he made something that tried to be ambitious and that has set the bar for films that came after it. Hopefully Hollywood will learn from films like the Dark Knight and Iron man that you can be smart engaging and entertaining.

  • James Cameron has never made a bad film.

  • i think they stopped trying when Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich came around . and the 90s with all the natural disaster movies came out.

  • Good posability.
