I would like to know why our society is so fixated on two men, two boys, two guys cannot be close, cannot be intimate in any way, cannot show affection towards one another or automatically they must be gay. And it's largely only our western society, in other countries there's nothing abnormal about two men sleeping in the same bed or kissing or anything. And you have to wonder what that does to our boys they grow up taught they can't be close to any other boys or something's wrong with them.
When will our society get over male affection, between gay men or straight or whatever. I have a wonder straight male friend in college, he was so open hearted and a great friend and had no problem being affectionate. He was a football player, we worked out and swan and wrestled together. I sang at his wedding. I loved his family. He was not afraid to be close or touch. He was just like that. He was also a mans man. He was real and a really great guy and not gay. I treasured our friendship.

I don't see any "gay" in this. All the laughing is due to them smoking a "reefer" (note how Dean passes it to Mineo). In the film, the scene where Jim and Natalie leave Sal to "explore" is when they have sex in the mansion. These insinuated scenes of dope-smoking and teenage sex were toned down by the studios in the pre-production notes to director Nick Ray. This was to be an accurate reflection of 50's youth in Ray's mind, but 50's studios couldn't put that stuff in.

@MrRJDB1969 You are right. It is common knowledge, however, that Dean was a 'kept' boy of Rogers Brackett (a TV producer). He cruelly used Brackett to get ahead in show biz. A lot of straight guys may enter into a 'deal' with a gay guy (for money/housing) as long as they do not have to be on the 'receiving' end. By the way research has found that human sexuality is actually pretty fluid--so their's NO such thing as 100 % straight or 100 % gay-people tend to be blends of one or the other.

I don't see any "gay" in this. All the laughing is due to them smoking a "reefer" (note how Dean passes it to Mineo). In the film, the scene where Jim and Natalie leave Sal to "explore" is when they have sex in the mansion. These insinuated scenes of dope-smoking and teenage sex were toned down by the studios in the pre-production notes to director Nick Ray. This was to be an accurate reflection of 50's youth in Ray's mind, but 50's studios couldn't put that stuff in.

A lot of straight guys may enter into a 'deal' with a gay guy (for money/housing) as long as they do not have to be on the 'receiving' end. By the way research has found that human sexuality is actually pretty fluid--so their's NO such thing as 100 % straight or 100 % gay-people tend to be blends of one or the other.

I grew up close to his hometown in Indiana and had the opportunity to speak to his childhood/high school best friend. He said he never knew James to be gay, and said that he was deeply heartbroken when his fiancee, Pier Angeli, dumped him. That's not to say that he wasn't bi--and if he was, no big deal. @listentome94 Bill Best was in love with Jim NOT Jim with Bill. I have a problem not with Jim being gay IF HE WAS..but to write it 50 plus years after he is dead sends red flags BIG TIME. Jim s first cousin Markie says Jim mention to his parents he DATED Pier Angeli and while Markie didnt met her.. Jim introduced her to his dad and step mom. That cancels what Bill Best says about Jim and Pier.

James Dean was one of the great actors is owed some respect. Instead of you guys proclaiming rumors as facts you could read some books on the subject.. He was way before most of our time, but I read books and I know most of the things you guys say are unfounded. I'm not homophobic but I think a lot of you want everybody to be gay to make yourself feel better. Some of the rumors maybe true but you people need to stop making up garbage as you go along.

of course he was gay...consider the times, so many reasons to hide it, yet it still comes thru. So many times even when it doesn't you know it's there because of the need to go so far the other way(to be straight). Artistic people by nature are homosexual...it will be interesting to see when society allows people to be honest, just how many celebrities will feel no need to conceal their orientation or to enter into false relationships.

James had a lifelong friend that he referred to as Dizzy, she wrote a book called Dizzy and Dean. Also an actress, he trusted her and carried on a relationship w/her. " Dizzy and Dean" can be found just abt ne bookstore. It's a tell, tell abt him sharing his lovers in hollywood. All men, Sal Mineo was as well known to be a gay man... So if u c it, it might of been obvious...
