This is only scary because of the fact that it could happen at any time. Just look at the data that it shows already: "evidence shows that this has happened at least 6 times in Earth's history."
For me, that is what makes it truly scary. If the aspect of dying were removed, though, this would probably be the most amzing thing I have ever seen. I'm talking about the actual event, if it really happened. It would be truly amazing and destructive, obviously.
