  • She is a Godness. The best movie scene ever.

  • love this film to bits. it had a real hard time at the cinema but was a class piece of film making....

  • Just love this. So epic and chilling :)

  • I've thought of many pleasures with you....

  • Irulan is somehow awkward hot o:0

  • @DuneTheNovelCut Many many thanks for uploading this.! I did not know there was an unedited version released. Can this full version be purchased on DVD or do you have some exclusive copy.?

May the Spice be with you.

  • Isn't there a 720p or 480p versión?

  • spice melange.... now that's how MAN'S SPICE should be called for princess Irulan to collect...

  • i nearly ALWAYS got shivers as i watch-see this, awsomeness at its best

  • 2:27 omg omg omg

  • is this the same cut as the torrent at demonoid named

DUNE (1984) THE ALTERNATIVE EDITION V.2 - A fanedit by Spicediver

    ???

    I guess not.

  • damn she's hot

  • Is this fan made editing or what?

  • @mindarinas You need to watch the Dune. You won't regret it. One of the best sci fi movies from the 80s!!

  • @mindarinas

I notice your playlist is full of Dune videos. Not a Lynch fan I take it?

  • @marsneedstowels fan of everything dune

  • Precious substance, very important for transportation, which is only to be found in the desert, inhabited by a people which does await some Messiah figure? I sometimes wonder how much the fancy Dune tale is a parable on the modern world! The spice is the oil, the Spacing Guild could be compared to the multinational Oil Corporations, the empire to the US of A (recently they make a fuss about being an empire) and even the Baron Harkonnen could resemble a well-known banking baron.

  • @FireEyedMaidOfWar Considering that the spice was written as an allegory over the dangers of having humanity controlled by a single substance and that the Fremen are Sunni... :P

  • Virginia Madsen is so freaking hot, She is still hot today @ 49, but WOW @ 23 years old she was a real Hottie !!!

  • @lordpatrice 100% Hotness!

  • "Oh, yes. I forgot to tell you."

    lol

  • I like Virginia, she plays a good slut, i like sluts...

  • 4000 years part is BS, the year 10 191 is counted from establishment of the Guild, and the mutated navigators existed from the start. Film takes place around year 20 000 CE.

  • @arna11420 This should be 20,0000 years into the future. I really want to see a remake of the original Dune movie, along with the 2 and 3rd part of the book, including a proper movie about the Children of Dune books.

  • Ursul do we have wormsign?

  • @700gsteak We have wormsign the likes of which even GOD has never seen!

  • no playlist ..oh well thanks for these awesome

  • I don't recall how many times I've watched this movie, and the intro still gives me chills. I believe it's the aesthetics and the overall impression this movie gives you - it really captures the alien humanity that exists i the year 10.191.David Lynchs style fits perfectly for Herberts philosophical Sci-fi. Like a painting, you can watch it over and over again because what gets you is indeed the humanity and universe that is presented to you, rather than the effects. Truly timeless work.

  • @Corellian couldn't have said it any better

  • このオープニングほんと最高。

  • Virginia Madsen Looked soo HOT here.......I used to get confused btw her and Sharon Stone years ago......both looked so much aliek and sooo HOT...;)

  • I've just had goose-bumps when the music started. This is so cool.

  • Probably best introduction ever!

  • In the year 6041 before the reign of padashan emperors the universe was ruled by thinking machines with human minds.

Know then that it is the year 10000-1-91. The known universe is ruled by Padasha Emperor Saddam the fourth, my father.

  • shes so beautiful , i like my posh princess , slightly dominant types

  • This movie is one epic blast. The intro and main theme alone are worth more than one thousand of today's Avatars...

  • @JimWarp93

The ending ain't too shabby either, quite relaxing. ;)

    watch?v=YRzVFlZxBv4

  • I heard if you stand in front of a mirror and say "Virgina Madsen" 3 times, the princess will appear.

  • oy. it just struck me as I watched this ( although I've seen it many times ).

Dune is like the middle-east with its oil? Not trying to start a political debate or anything... was just an interesting analogy to it that I never thought of before.

  • @WhoChube

Yes - it's deliberate. CHAOM is OPEC and the spice is oil. There are a load more interesting parallels too.

  • This Princess Irulan is leagues above the newer Children of Dune princess, hands down.

I find myself wishing the actress were in her prime today still and that such passionate movies be made nowadays.

  • @Banzay27

Virginia Madsen still look pretty good.

  • For some odd reason, I ADORE the way she says 'melange'.

Maybe she says it very softly and frenchly, yet is a 'smart' word, so she is smart too.

  • she looks sexy too, like a princess

  • I like the way she says Messiah

  • The book was a major influence as to why Star Wars was made.

  • So does this follow the novel most closely ? thanks for posting :)

Dune was to sci-fi what LotR was to fantasy.

Unfortunately the movie adaptations were rather slip-shod, so few ever realise the significance of Frank Herbert's work :/

  • @StarSpawn06 This movie departed from the novel, that in 1984. People did not buy the concept. Even the director did not want anything to do with the movie because he was not given the artistic direction to give fans what Dune was all about.

  • Fear Factory used it on Wacken 2010 for opening.

  • DUNE talks about future conditions on planet Earth thus RESPECT...

  • @PsychotronicWar erhmmm... No it doesnt. Earth according to Dune history was destroyed

  • yes she has grace , although we only see her face. if today a woman on the screen is suposed to be sexy they have to paint an arrow on her body pointing to her vagina. i think our culture has lost the true understanding of grace and true beauty mistaking it with beeing rigged and lechery. how boring. i love how this movie avoids to fit in .

  • Perfect intro to the film!

  • Yes, it is.

  • Is that Virginia Madsen?

  • @CarlaLR74 Indeed she is...

  • In my opinion, this is the only good (read: passable) transfer of the books on the screen, although even this one has many flaws...

Biggest mistake in all Dune movies or series is total failure when it comes to showing Freemen culture and behavior (I still remember that miniseries when one Freemen was standing outside during storm with his shirt wide open, luckily,in this movie there are no such stupid mistakes).

  • @drunkenchan Not to worry, someone would have collected his water. Besides after the first book it wouldn't have been beyond scope to show such an action by a Freman, in contract the first book. The planet was not as dry as it once was, and by the time of God Emperor the planet was lush with vegetation, and water was not scarce anymore.

  • HoboAkuma, hell yeah, dude! Toto's job back there was just magnificent.

  • Music is awesome. Very atmospheric. I love the fact that Toto made it.

  • Wow, thats all I can say, an amazing movie based upon a amazing novel

  • her voice is so sexy

  • So true :P

  • @EnglishSmoker2 And drop dead gorgeous too...

  • I'm no music buff but the music is so amazing in comparison to the run o the mill noise in to day's films XD

  • @HoboAkuma

Well Brian Eno composed the music of this film. He is a very important musical artist and early pioneer of electronic, ambiant music. He's still alive and active.

  • @insanej3 Yeah well, Brian Eno didnt compose the music of this film, just a tiny part (the "prophecy" track if i remember). Most of the OST have been composed by Toto (the rock band).

But Eno is great though :D

  • @MegaGremy

Oh I didn't know that, I got through the IMDB page too fast I guess.

  • @HoboAkuma I agree Hobo .. Its hauntingly good ;0)

  • I am watching this again because it so awesome edit

  • They don't make movies like this nowadays I'm afraid... Nowadays all they produce are action, explosion and car race. Except for the LOTR the majority of movie productions are either comedy or action movie. Not a single movie has the potential of competing with the old movies which were done with much lower technology and still have their own magic. You know old Disney movies? Incomparable beautiful with todays Disney! Old movies FTW! Anyway... Love Dune, have it on DVD. 5* for the vid.

  • @VariusMayhem Yes, this was an epic movie, based on an epic novel. However, unfortunately the books were much too epic for the movie to do it justice. I'm just glad I saw the movie before reading the books, otherwise I'm sure I would have hated the movie, instead of allowing them both to stand on their own as separate works of art.

  • yeah, it's pretty damn good... 1985, no less..

it kinda annoys me that they left out how the bene gesserit PLANTED the legends and prophecies on dune (and pretty much every planet with natives...). the whole thing was NOT a coincidence...

  • I agree. In that version of the film alot of vital things are being left out, but it does say: based on the novel

Nevertheless, most exceltly done! I like the characters better than in the TV version, althought the TV version sticks closer to the book.

  • The novel might be even greater than LOTR. The movie is very good, pitty for the funny visual effects due to low technology.

  • I really LOVE this movie

  • Awesome

  • Virginia Madsen forever...

  • Totally agree dude.

  • just a note on the comments. look at

Lynch's other work to understand what he

does with the phys/theo themes, the spice(our oil) etc is secondary. Lynch is the only director i know who can do this

  • how old is this movie?

  • it's a masterpiece from 1984

  • 1984

  • Today, it is almost 26 years since it was released way back in 1984....

  • That's what i hope for hypérion in 2011 or 2010. great actors and great dialogue too

  • BEST OPENING !!!

  • You are absolutely right, this movie has a philosophical meaning in agreement with our politic situation

    Spice=oil ^^

  • Lynch did draw a lot from the literal template, Me4897, so all the glory goes to Frank Herbert! But the treason is purely carried out in theory but well done in the movie! I love the Harkonnen lines: You done a good job traitor! Or when the traitor receives his fitting reward, a reward that every traitor should receive! But the philosophy is rather religion as Herbert uses Judaism and Christianity [mother with the son] and even the infamous camel merchant cult [whose name I will not utter here].

  • Actually it is closer to Islam than to Christianity.

  • @bluerisk - it's closer to ancient Judaism and elements of pre-Islamic Arabian culture if you to get technical ;o)

  • I kind of like the Dune movie despite the poorly done fighting scenes, the ridiculous worms and the sad fact that the Harkonnen loose instead of destroying the savoir and his desert rats of a chosen people. I wonder if, after Lord of the Rings, Lynch would today be able to avoid this by using computer animations; maybe, not considering what Lucas did to his new Star Wars trilogy with the new possibilities of digital animations...

  • I love this movie so such! ***** Stars!

  • travels without moving

  • i joke...

    she is so stunning

  • is it alicia rhodes?

  • No, it's Virginia Madsen.

  • Just kidding!

  • best movie ever

  • I never noticed until now that Virginia Madsen has different coloured eyes, and I have seen this movie more times than I can count.
