Man, I've known about you guys since I was a sixth-grade bat maniac.
Let's just say that I got a lot of "HURP DURP I DUN KULLED A BAT. Derpderpderp"
It was quite upsetting. Repeat when I became a snake nut.
I don't get any of that now, though (praise to all things holy).
But I've still always wanted to have some sort of involvement with you guys :) . We went through Mineral Wells all the time to get to Possom Kingdom...which we can't for a while :(
I had the fortune to have a huge one swoop just overhead.. it must have had a 30inch wingspan with light grey/brown fur.. at the very least thats what I saw, may be larger... but I can't for the life of my find what kind of bat that was, I did some research and apparently bats of that size do not like here in the UK. Yet I know I saw it. :<
A buddy and I explore abandoned mines sometimes. We often come across bats in there that will start flying around in the confined space of the tunnel. It seems they fly towards us and our lights and then away as if they are checking us out. My question is: Will these bats actually fly into us and attack? I've always assumed that bats will NOT fly into obstacles like people, walls, etc. because of their sonar. In the confines of a mine tunnel, can we assume the bats won't hit us?
Bats are intelligent and curious - they are checking as you presumed. They don't attack people and rarely run onto objects, but may accidentally land on your clothing or shoe when flying in crowded/confined spaces. It's best to allow the bat to become oriented and it will fly away. Never grab the bat as this may cause it become frightened and bite in self defense. Also, please never disturb hibernating as they will waken and lose body fat, causing them to starve to death during the winter.
5:54 ITCHY :D !
