You mentioned that it records in the outdated format of mpeg2 but your imovie 9 reads it. I have imovie 08 and it cannot recognize it at all. Plus when I copied the files to my harddrive, they came out in two files. .mod and .moi Any idea how I can read these?
@Jschwar7 open imovie and connect the camera through usb (or use the SD card in a card reader) go into the import options and use "import from camera"
the files will be saved directly into imovie's event storage folders.
Hi, i got this camera recently but when i use the auto focus option there is a "whirrrr" sounding noise from an internal monitor...I read it was from the focus motor inside but its picking up on video. when i play them back the sounds is there and it's a distraction in silence. i only have this problem when i use the auto focus option. is this normal? or is it a defect in the camera i got?
@WindmillTea Heyo, Sorry I took so long to respond. I have that same problem with my camera actually. So I don't know how common that annoying noise is in other camera's though.
@HenkibenkiSan Hey, thanks so much for both your responses to my question :) I really appreciate it! I will try adding the external microphone and see if that works for me, thanks very much 4 the help :)!
right im thinking of buying this camera and im in th U.K and im a PC user with windows xp the only software i basiclly have is windows movie maker and you said in this video it only accept MP2 and i need to know if windows movie maker will accept this format if not how would i convert it without a converter please reply ASAP or make a video and send me the link thanks -bluedog916
hey u no canon fs200 is mod files. is there anyway i can put them in windows movie maker? or is there any free editing software that takes mod files??
Can this camera record all 16GB continuously, all in one clip? I'm asking because some SD cameras stop at the 4GB fat32 filesize limit. Others continue in another file without stopping.
Just FYI, if you ever need to convert video files, there's Handbrake, mpegstreamclip, and ffmpegX. :)
questions: i was in the same situation you were in with the webbie and this video changed my mind but i was watching other videos and this is the only video with 720p how do you do that?
2. how much memory does the camera flash drive come with and how long does it record for??
thanks, please reply as soon as possible (also anyone with this camera and sees this comment please reply)
So I got my camera yesterday and shot some footage at a concert. The audio is good for the most part but there are all these split second audio dropouts occurring after I transfer it to my computer. I don't really hear that happening on your video. I've tried researching about it online but I can't find any info.
Also, you're vid quality looks a lot better than mine. I have mine on the XP setting but is there anything else I should be doing to get the most out of the camera?
HD is technically having 720 vertical lines of resolution so 1080x720 would constitute as pretty much the lowest quality resolution but that would be a weird 7:10 ratio. 1280x720p is standard HD while 1920x1080 is full HD.
@TheGeneLightShow DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET IT INTO WIDESCREEN ON YOUTUBE? I CHOOSE WIDESCREEN ON THE CAMERA BUT DOESNT GO WIDESCREEN ON YOUTUBE! PLEASE HELP
@gloogur36 It records in MOD format which plays but if you have a video in widescreen format, and you're not on Windows 7 (which I think doesn't need conversion to play it well)- you'll have to convert the video using a very good tool which is called SDCOPY which converts the video to .MPG.
@gloogur36 I checked the .MOD format in Movie Maker, and it plays fine there (without the need to convert).
If you're playing the video not on Movie Maker- and the video's in widescreen format- it will look squashed. To fix that- either convert it via SDCOPY or record in non-widescreen format. I think that it's better to record in widescreen, and if you need- just convert it- it's fast and easy.
Of course it does. The Canon FS200 records in a MPEG-2 format at 720x480 resolution, the Kodak Zi6 records in 1280x720 (720P) video resolution, so of course the Kodak Zi6's video quality would better.
Hey how do you get the "HD" option on the lower part of the video screen? I have a canon fs200 and have uploaded vids to youtube, but I don't have that option. How do you do it?
I might have purchased a flash camcorder like the $200 Samsung SMX-C10 but HD video looks better. It was on sale at Fry's last week for $100. I liked the Samsung cause it has a 10X optical zoom and stereo mic. Most camcorders in that price range don't have a zoom.
I purchased the Kodak Zi6 at Sears after Christmas for $80. It shoots in 720P HD which is nice. That's why I might have got a Webbie since it shoots in HD.
The Kodak doesn't have optical zoom but it works fine. I found my Kodak Zi6 works about as good in low light as my Canon A540 Camera. The Kodak even has a small mic that records in 2 channel stereo.
My own experience with the FS200; It's bit of a jack-of-all-trades. The zoom, video quality, video format, battery lifetime, microphone and price/quality ratio - none of these is something that the FS200 is THE BEST at, but it's one of the few camcorders that manages to be GOOD on all of these, while retaining a slick and compact structure (light as a feather and fits the hand perfectly).
I'm throughoutly satisfied with what I've received from the FS200 :)
Hey Davis, I just bought the same camera, and I am using a card reader as well. When I plug it in, nothing pops up and I click on the camera button in iMovie and it just brings up my camera on my computer. I am using iLife 09. Thanks
I use a card reader although it shouldn't matter. Is Imovie already open? It should auto open the camera. If not than there is a button in the middle left side of the program with a camera on it. That should search for any connected devices
I bought the same camera and love it for my YouTube videos. However, I've noticed that the image comes out squished online, for some reason. Any tips of how to fix it?
I went to Sears and Best Buy and even though the Webbie is almost 1 year old they still sell it for $200. You can get the Webbie on ebay for around $100-$125 but its not worth $200.
It does have an optical zoom but the battery is built into the camera . It will also shut off after 25 minutes or recording. The Webbie has an Aperture of 3.5 which is much higher than the 1.8 on your Canon. Your Canon FS200 should be better for low light.
hey, I just bought this. I import the video through the supplied Pixela program but all my 16:9 video is compressed down and appears as 4:3. How do you get it to appear as widescreen?
Would this camera be good for filming skateboarding ? Also you said it films in mp2 or something. Do you know if Sony Vegas accepts that ? And last, it uses SD cards to save stuff right ?
YES! amazing for skatings, works like a charm, and yeah vegas accepts it. lol. it doesnt film in Mp2. I have this camera, and use vegas pro 8.0. and Yeah it uses SD cards.
Do you know why when I export as widescreen in Movie maker, it doesnt fill up the video space in youtube? when option did u choose? have a look at my uploaded video....if u can give me any help it would be nice.
Its not "true HD" in the sense you're thinking of. In Imovie '09 the highest quality setting of exportation is HD. I think YouTube just calls it HD as the highest quality setting. As for the camera it is just a SD camera.
Well, I'm a mac user and I have Ilife 09. I use OS X and Imovie 09. To burn DVD's I use IDVD. To burn a DVD you have to edit the file in your software and export as a movie file. Then open your DVD software and edit the DVD (menus, titles ext) and then hit the burn DVD button.
this camera is NOT HD i recommend a Kodak Easyshare Z950 if you are looking for a good camera for videos or pictures it uploads in HD and is much cheaper.
ok, but I still prefer this one because it has a mic input for a better audio capture... I just would like to know how he could upload the video with the possibility of watching it on HD mode here on You Tube, since the original resolution is only SD.
Nice vid,, based on this i'm buying one of those at the mall across the street in a few minutes and i'm gonna maka vid of my volkswagen scrirocco uploaded by tonite probably..
Yes, it is in the menu of the camera although not labeled very well. In movie mode press the func.button. This brings up a tower menu. Scroll down to the bottom to the symbol that has a sub box that says "menu". Click on that. Now you are in a different menu that takes up the whole screen. Under "camera setup", click on the "widescreen" option. Make sure it is on. Now the screen should fill the whole LCD display and all of your recordings will too. If you have any more problems just ask
Nice zoom, I guess if you braced it against something (or used a tripod) the inevitable shaking wouldn't be an issue. Can't wait till mine turns up in a few days.
I have the same camera. What are your Quicktime-settings when you export the movie from iMovie? I use 640x360 resolution, 30fps, 2500kbps... Check my last vids, it's recorded with the FS200 but I don't like the quality. Maybe you can help me? Thnx!
Well on the camera, make sure you are recording in he XP setting (found in the function menu). This is the highest quality you can record in (also takes up more space). When you export from iMovie, next to the export drop-down menu, there is an options button, click that and it will bring up a box with all of your video settings in more detail. Go to the settings button next to video and click that. Now under compression make sure you have best selected. Now for sound, if you click setting for
sound (in the same box that comes up when you pressed settings on the export drop-down box), under render settings, go to quality and select "best". This will export your video in the best possible quality (note: This will make the file much larger and the upload time on YouTube much longer). Anyway I hope this helps and thanks for the comment!
well I've never used that camera but I looked at some test footage and it looks good. Do some more research because I can only tell you so much. The canon is cheeper. Im not sure about the specifics but they look to be fairly similar. Both look good but the jvc takes micro SD instead of regular SD. My recommendation would be to look more into the fine details before making a purchase as well as a design and brand, sound quality ext. I wish you luck with your camera and thanks for the comment!
Ok, so with any flash memory camera, you need a card reader. Plug your SD card into this while running iMovie '09. A loading bar should appear before a window with all of your video's appears with check boxes under them. Check what you want and press import checked or you can simply import all. If your camera has internal memory or has a USB cable output it works very much the same way only you plug in the cable to complete the same process. From here you will have to export the video using
iMovie itself or Quicktime which will export in .mov format. This is widely accepted so its no issue that MP2 doesn't have a player on OSX (although maybe you could find one, I'm not sure). If you have any other questions or comments feel free to ask and thanks again for the comment!
I'm thinking of buying one of these, And i was wondering if you can use it to make stop motion animations, And if so how well does it capture close up images?
im going to use this camera for skateboarding but does it support lenses like wide angle and fisheye oh and is there like a steadycam or somethign cause its kind of shaky
well, its really good for the price, but if you are going to use it exclusively for skateboarding you should look into something that is made for sports and has really good image stabilization. As you can see in my video the stabilization isn't bad but its not incredible. You should do some more research on better cameras if you have the buget because so much depends on price. However, if you are going to use a tripod and keep the camera still this would not be bad, your call really.
I looked into the FS10 and it looks better even though it is older. That is weird. But its $500 and the FS200 is only $320. So that was the deciding factor for me because I got iLife 09 and a 16gb SD card with it so I didn't have the money. However its not dramatically better with the 48x zoom and 8gb internal memory. Except the FS10 shoots better quality video. The deciding factor (at least for me) would be if you have the money to pay for the better camera. It's your choice but both look good
Great test. I'm still undecided between this and the slightly older FS10. Same body, weight and nearly same specs. Only major difference I can see is that the FS10 has 8GB on-board memory and a 1.07MP CCD sensor versus the 668k CCD. So it's older, slightly less because of the newer FS line and has slightly better features from what I can see. Confused at all? I am.
i found it for 100 bucks.

@gloogur36 It records in MOD format which plays but if you have a video in widescreen format, and you're not on Windows 7 (which I think doesn't need conversion to play it well)- you'll have to convert the video using a very good tool which is called SDCOPY which converts the video to .MPG.

Alright, so if I record movie in not widescreen, then I will be fine with wmm right?

@gloogur36 I checked the .MOD format in Movie Maker, and it plays fine there (without the need to convert).
If you're playing the video not on Movie Maker- and the video's in widescreen format- it will look squashed. To fix that- either convert it via SDCOPY or record in non-widescreen format. I think that it's better to record in widescreen, and if you need- just convert it- it's fast and easy.

What kind of DVD burning software are you using? What kind of operating system are you working with? Mac? Windows (Vista, XP, 7)?
TheVideomaniacs7 2 years ago
Well, I'm a mac user and I have Ilife 09. I use OS X and Imovie 09. To burn DVD's I use IDVD. To burn a DVD you have to edit the file in your software and export as a movie file. Then open your DVD software and edit the DVD (menus, titles ext) and then hit the burn DVD button.

this camera is NOT HD i recommend a Kodak Easyshare Z950 if you are looking for a good camera for videos or pictures it uploads in HD and is much cheaper.
Bralvin 2 years ago
ok, but I still prefer this one because it has a mic input for a better audio capture... I just would like to know how he could upload the video with the possibility of watching it on HD mode here on You Tube, since the original resolution is only SD.
Gavras72 2 years ago
How can you upload an HD quality video here at You Tube if this camera only shoots on SD 720X480? Is there any kind of software to upscale?
Gavras72 2 years ago

Hello.
How do you get the 16:9 mode ?
Is it a setting in the menu of the camcorder ?
Stratocasteph 2 years ago

Thnx!
Gnepiah 2 years ago

Anyway I hope this helps and thanks for the comment!

do you think its better than the jvc everio
hippoman357 2 years ago
well I've never used that camera but I looked at some test footage and it looks good.

I have the same camera.. i NEED HELP..
How do get the videos on to my mac or imovie09
PLEASE HELP
JSmoove214 2 years ago
Ok, so with any flash memory camera, you need a card reader. Plug your SD card into this while running iMovie '09. A loading bar should appear before a window with all of your video's appears with check boxes under them. Check what you want and press import checked or you can simply import all. If your camera has internal memory or has a USB cable output it works very much the same way only you plug in the cable to complete the same process. From here you will have to export the video using
DavisBlog 2 years ago
iMovie itself or Quicktime which will export in .mov format. This is widely accepted so its no issue that MP2 doesn't have a player on OSX (although maybe you could find one, I'm not sure). If you have any other questions or comments feel free to ask and thanks again for the comment!

im going to use this camera for skateboarding but does it support lenses like wide angle and fisheye oh and is there like a steadycam or somethign cause its kind of shaky
ShadowSkateCo 2 years ago
Well, I'm not to familiar with any accessories for the camera, as I haven't actual handled any of them, sorry.
DavisBlog 2 years ago
cool ima buy one do you think it would be good for skateboarding?
xxxfruitboots19xxx 2 years ago
well, its really good for the price, but if you are going to use it exclusively for skateboarding you should look into something that is made for sports and has really good image stabilization.

Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate that.

no problem

I am.
