You must get to know the music of Emanuel Chabrier! He belongs in this list. His piano pieces such as Idylle, Danse Villageoise, Scherzo Valse, and Feuillet D'Album are perfect little gems. Espana is a fantastic orchestral piece. But my favorite is his Overture to Gwendoline.
the bizet is just fantastic! carmen definitely deserves to be as popular as it is! faure is another of my favourite french composers, the pavane, so beautiful. don't know d'Indy's music, but I do wish to explore it now. debussy. wow! that excerpt from la mer is so passionate, clair de lune, so beautiful!
Curious to think that Bizet was accused of "wagnerism" when he published Carmen! It was a flop! Vincent d'Indy is almost forgotten today, Fauré's Requiem is a pure masterpiece. As for Debussy, La Mer is one of the most amazing works in the history of music.
I also like Chabrier's Suite Pastorale, a nice little gem, simple but beautiful
