No before WoTLK (Like what? 2weeks before it was released) blizzard did big events in the cities plague roaches everywhere if you killed one or hit by an NPC/Players you'd become a ghoul and also...there were argent healers in the cities.........*sigh* I miss spreading that plague on my pally in Stormwind :/
I don't think it was a bug to. And I remember that when were transformed into zombies we could speak to other zombies whatever were his faction (horde or alliance).
This was not a bug, that was the launch of Wrath of the Lich King, because anyone could become a zombie, you had not necessarily be in Shattrath City.

Bof I have another bug
with my troll in barrens when hes attak by players ( even hord's player in a dual) a guard always come and kill the guy who attak me.
