Haha this vid sucks... but look at it this way. Diru and GazettE both have the most recognized vocalists of Japan. Kyo and Ruki Both bands have two guitarists... Kaoru, Die and Uruha, Aoi Both have a similar talented bass Toshiya and Reita Both have a exceptionally long haired drummer (Well all J-rock bands do lol) Shinya and Kai Dir en Grey and The GazettE (Besides X Japan) are the biggest Japanese bands in history. Yet, ones dark and the other is colorful. Looks like a Yin/Yang to me :P
Check out a newer band's video on Youtube and people say they rip off Gazette. Go onto a Gazette video, people say they rip off Dir en Grey. Go onto a Dir en Grey video, people say they rip off Kuroyume. Why can't people give it a rest?

The riffs are of similar tempos, but they aren't playing the same thing, which is pretty obvious if you play guitar. If you don't have a musical ear, it probably sounds about the same. Even then, palm muted staccato chugging riffs are pretty common in any form of metal, so I don't really see the point of this besides starting arguments between which band is better, which is irrelevant and stupid, especially since it involves random strangers online who are probably trolling anyway. /thread

The only difference present is the guitar tone and tuning (and the dir en grey bridge simply adds two more notes than the Gazette riff). Drums and whatever else is a different story. They sound similar but I doubt GazettE ripped off of Dir en grey. I think Dir en grey are a better band musically and spiritually but the GazettE are arguably more popular. GazettE albums also tend to be an eclectic mix of sounds which I love. Not a lot of bands do that.

Really, the two sounds do NOT sound alike. AT ALL. I don't hate either of them; I actually love them both. Both of them have their own unique sound and style. You CANNOT compare the two, even if they ARE in the same genre/industry. Both of them are amazing bands.

Dir en grey's riff is a single picked note with an artificial harmonic and some palm muting open string. the GazettE riff isn't even played in the same key and its just power chords. Only similarity is the rhythm.
More into fanservice? Then you obviously dont listen to or know GazettE. Nor are they "simple". GazettE is probably one of the most mature bands in the Jrock industry who isnt all about fanservice or their look.

I love DEG to death and they're almost the only band I really listen to...but c'mon, Gazette aren't that bad and I don't fuckin' care if they "ripped Deg off" or not, it's about what the both bands convey through their music. Dir en grey's riff is a single picked note with an artificial harmonic and some palm muting open string. the GazettE riff isn't even played in the same key and its just power chords. Only similarity is the rhythm.

Yes. Dir en Grey's vocals, Kyo, even stated he didn't like Ruki, vocals from the GazettE.yes. ALL JROCK BANDS KNOW OF EACHOTHER. In the music industry you have to; know competition, know friends, know rising artists, and know fading artists.
In the visualkei/jrock magazine Purple Sky, they even stated the competition between the 2; it said "though GazettE has similiarities in lyrics style, when it comes down to it they are nothing alike but both need to be reckoned with. Beware future rockers"
