@Slowslide1969 If he set it up like neil how would you know? Wouldn't that make you scary cause you know how Neil sets it up too? Anyways, great job. Sounds great!!
Alright look, your definately a great drummer, there's no doubt about that, your only problem is your drum SOUND, here it sounds like your just running off the camera's mic alone, I would suggest individual drum mics, but you're an awesome player.

I enjoyed watching this on my ipod. Watching this helped me get through a very boring insurance seminar and presentation. Saw Rush in St. Louis two weeks ago and it was awesome.
I think these videos have a lot of value. For me, it's interesting to see how Peart works his magic, and Mr Harber appears to have them nailed down for the most part. Peart has the line that the beginner takes the rudimentary and makes it look difficult and the expert takes the difficult and makes it look easy. Peart does it...and in reproducing his work Harber does as well and I for one find it helpful (and impressive) to watch.
Fucking awsome job buddy, the rest of you ass holes who left a negative remark,,get back in your kitchen and keep banging your fucking brain dead heads on your pots and pans, when you get as good as this guy ,come back and comment..cheers buddy,u rock.
very nice cover. frankly, i wasnt expecting it to be that good. Of course, its not as good as The Proffessor himself, but then who is? All in all, a very good sounding cover in my opinion and keep at it.
Why do people come to videos just to rag on the person that made it? There's is nothing wrong with Ray showing his appreciation for his favorite drummer! If it's not your thing go somewhere else!
Okay, I'll follow your lead and make this conversation a bit more peaceful and hopefully less poisonous. Yeah, I know there are a lot of tribute bands out there and a lot of people dig that. I personally can't stand them for one reason: It gives me the impression that these musicians are either not capable of or not interested in creating anything unique. I'll say this, I've been more inspired lately by novice drummers who approach drumming without these influences. I'm blown away by them.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sorry, not buying it. Look at how you have your drums set up. It's basically the same layout that Neil uses, and it even looks like you're using his cymbals. Look, to admire and by influenced by someone is one thing, I've been a fan of his since the 80's. But the degree to which you have gone to be just like him is, quite frankly, scary. Just my first impression, that's all. I don't know what all you have done as a musician. And no, I didn't watch this just to leave rude comments.
@Slowslide1969 It's just a tribute man..nothing scary about it...I was forming a Rush tribute band back when I recorded these videos. There's plenty of tribute bands out there who model their equipment (and even look!) after the band they're idolizing. Anyway, you cant please everyone! I've gotta cut you some slack since you ARE a Rush fan.
@rays2112 True that! Mike Portnoy had 4 or 5 tribute bands, in all of which they used the same equipment, setups, etc. that the original artists used. I personally enjoy your videos man, and the level of musicianship it takes to play Neil Peart's drum parts. Keep on rocking man! And keep uploading the sick drum videos!
@Slowslide1969 Get out of here, you couldn't drum to save your life. let alone like Ray. Neils layout? Yeah right. You know absolutely nothing about music, obviously. You couldn't re-create any Rush song if you tried. Im glad you know everything about music. If Neil himself saw you say that. He would laugh in your face. He appreciates things like this. Go somewhere else.
@VenumosFate I'm sorry, did anybody invite you into this conversation? Did we ask for you opinion? And should anybody believe that you know enough about Neil Peart to know what he appreciates? Go sit on a baseball bat.
@VenumosFate First, and for the record, you don't know me and you don't know what I can and can't play. And no, I'm not mad. I just believe that sometimes people take this whole imitation of others phenomenon a little too far sometimes. I know some extremely talented musicians who only know how to cover other musicians. But I also know some fairly novice musicians who inspire me with their unique approach to their instruments. That's the point I'm trying to make.
Okay, great, you can play a Rush song. That doesn't make you a musician or an artist, it makes you a copycat. I'm sorry, I'm not normally so critical of people, but this is truly "Malignant Narcissism". Recording yourself on video playing someone else's music, not to mention the Neal Peart cap. Do you wear the same underwear, too? I'm not saying you shouldn't learn from other drummers, but trying to play someone else's music note for note only shows that you have a good memory. Sorry.
@Slowslide1969 Lol...Let me ask you something, why did you click on this video to watch it? Was it just so you can leave a rude comment? (maybe your into wearing someone elses underwear, I'm not) Look, I'm a fan of Neil Peart and Rush...these videos (and hat!) are simply a tribute to that! You can ask any great musician and I'm sure they have learned many songs (even note for note) from the artists who inspired them. I usually ignore these comments but I've played the drums for 30 years, Ive...
@rays2112 (part 2) I've been in many bands, in and out of recording studios and I'm currently in an all ORIGINAL rock band (I have videos of us on here too)...I'm a MUSICIAN. I do these videos because besides what I mentioned previously, I have almost 2000 subscribers and this video alone has 60,000 views! so there are many people on here that do appreciate this kind of thing...Thanks for watching.
hello, ray i just wanna say to you i have been into rush since i first heard them in 76...ray i have heard drummers play neils style and none i seen so far have that real feel behind them like you, thats very sincere and from the heart with much respect for you..i really enjoy your videos thanks so much for shareing them.john butler
Excellent job! You nailed the important fills such as the left-hand-lead (Buddy Rich) to the mounted tom on the first drum break, then the Gadd fill on the second break. Thanks for sharing! Great job!
@mikem2002 Thanks man! Yeah a lot of guys don't lead with the left hand on that first fill...it's actually more comfortable to play the sticking like that so at the end of the fill, the right hand crash is on the "one". It's definitely Buddy inspired! and the second fill is definitely Gadd inspired! Neil is the man!
@lsmit814 THey have been releasing some great stuff! But they started out great, started to lose their appeal right after Moving Pictures, and them bam Test for echo came out and they are back in the run of things.
sorry dude, I did not read the description. It's cool anyway bcoz, heck, what's more fun than drumming along with RUSH??? I'll check out your other vids. :)
hey i posted a video of this song on the video responce check it out.also i recored it with an hd camera why dont the hd thing or the hq thing show up?
Ray, many thanks for taking the time and trouble to make and post so many great vids (and for figuring out how to foil the YT police bots!). You have inspired my 15 year old to practice hard and get some of Neil's stuff down - which in turn makes me a happy bunny as I'm finally able to play Limelight, YYZ, Tom Sawyer etc. along with him! Playing along to midi drums sucks by comparison.
Thank you! I will be posting videos of me playing along to a couple of songs that I recorded with my current band, so hopefully you'll hear some originality on those! Thanks!
I'm working on the main monkey business, Ive learned all the parts, I just have keep listening to it over and over to memorize all the changes...turning the snares on and off...that song is crazy!
It took me one solid week to learn The Main Monkey Business. Great song to play. I would have never gotten the sticking correct (or knew EXACTLY what he was playing) in the "open snare/hi-hat/tom tom section" if I didn't buy the S&A Live, If you watch the live version, his solo at the end changes from the CD. I learned it the way he plays it on the CD. Have fun with it!!
Amazing man! Well done. I can kinda bluff my way through the song but if I put a video of it on it would be an embarassment to Neil. But you nailed it. Awesome.
hmmm, i thought it WAS Neil at first. Actually at 1:12, to many fills, and at 1:17, you are doing low tom fills when it is a snake roll. Just pointing it out. You can check out the video Rush - Malignant Narcissism - Only the drum and bass
Ray, as a drummer some 30 years myself I must say EXCELLENT cover! And to those who poo poo your effort as 'cloning' Niel I wish he had time to see you and astrotama and the like... alex Geddy and the man himself would be honored and proud! Very well done
This gets really old. I saw another guy do this song....I think his name was Neil Peart.
Enough with this crap already. I search for him, and get some dude who wants to be him. Doesn't count, in my book. Are you good? Yes, very. Why would even spend that much time being someone else? Seems like a waste of time and talent.
The unfortunate thing; like I don't want to be the one to say it, but I have too. Of course you're good, I wouldn't take that away from you or anyone else who has talent. My problem is, when are you and other good musicians on here going to put a video up of your originality? I want to see you play Ray, not another Neil Peart clone. I was one so I feel I can say that. I wouldn't say anything without telling myself the same thing.like to hear you play your style, bet it would be really good.
i can see you're a neil peart fan, me too, i need a little advise from you, i also have the paragons set, and, i dont know if this happens to you but, every time i play i left several sticks marks that cant be removed, i dont know if its my technique or something, but this never happened to me before with other cymbals, what type of product do you use to clean them? i'll apreciate your answer, thanks
Nice to see someone playing S&A. Good job. Sounded great. Just saw them last Saturday. Show was great, pretty much same concert from last year but since it was for S&A Live, what I would x-pect.
it looks like you really like neil peart. the cymbals. the sticks. are both by him. but really good job. I dont like the song so, i cant really tell you if you played it right but, i know you played well. Your no dave weckl or neil peart or any of the greats but, your really good. 2 thumbs up.
@Slowslide1969 If he set it up like neil how would you know? Wouldn't that make you scary cause you know how Neil sets it up too? Anyways, great job. Sounds great!!

nice work, your right hand grip is unusual but awesome
lachie10 3 years ago
I was kind of playing around on this video. I usually have a more consistant grip, check out my "limelight" or "vital signs" videos.

Holy shit this looks way harder than it sounds! Guess Neil hasn't lost his flair with the newer material huh?

when neil peart does a push up hes not pushuing his body up hes pushing the earth down.
the dinasours were killed by the neilpeartanasourus.
lightning never strikes twice in the same place because neil peart is looking for it.
neil peart lost his virginity before his dad did.
neil peart dosent use a condom... there is no protection against neil peart
neil peart can blow bubbles with beef jerky
when you masterbate god kills a kitten, when god masterbates neil peart kills a lion.

Amazing man! Well done. I can kinda bluff my way through the song but if I put a video of it on it would be an embarassment to Neil. But you nailed it. Awesome.

Nice drumming! good vid.
DavidAbyssal 3 years ago
hmmm, i thought it WAS Neil at first. Actually at 1:12, to many fills, and at 1:17, you are doing low tom fills when it is a snake roll. Just pointing it out. You can check out the video Rush - Malignant Narcissism - Only the drum and bass

Excellent! Nice set too.

Ray, as a drummer some 30 years myself I must say EXCELLENT cover! And to those who poo poo your effort as 'cloning' Niel I wish he had time to see you and astrotama and the like... alex Geddy and the man himself would be honored and proud! Very well done
Buford44444 3 years ago
You did a great job! At first I thought you were Neil.
SJsharksRULE142 3 years ago
He got the same hat as Neil.

This gets really old. I saw another guy do this song....I think his name was Neil Peart.
Enough with this crap already. I search for him, and get some dude who wants to be him. Doesn't count, in my book. Are you good? Yes, very. Why would even spend that much time being someone else? Seems like a waste of time and talent.
morsedp 3 years ago
very nice good job
amortec500 3 years ago
The unfortunate thing; like I don't want to be the one to say it, but I have too. Of course you're good, I wouldn't take that away from you or anyone else who has talent. My problem is, when are you and other good musicians on here going to put a video up of your originality? I want to see you play Ray, not another Neil Peart clone. I was one so I feel I can say that. I wouldn't say anything without telling myself the same thing.like to hear you play your style, bet it would be really good.

Thanks, yes I need to post some original drumming...I plan to do that. Thanks for watching!

Good playing! Better than some videos I've seen around here covering that song.
brian2878 3 years ago
Where did you get the hat?
Sorry if I sound stupid. I just think its a nice touch.
Nice kit and playing by the way. Are you using snare skins on the toms?
46lar 3 years ago
I think they're just coated tom heads (another kind of heads...) ;-)

i can see you're a neil peart fan, me too, i need a little advise from you, i also have the paragons set, and, i dont know if this happens to you but, every time i play i left several sticks marks that cant be removed, i dont know if its my technique or something, but this never happened to me before with other cymbals, what type of product do you use to clean them? i'll apreciate your answer, thanks
Elbabogrunge 3 years ago
I use Sabian cymbal cleaner, works great! Be careful with the logos though, it will remove them if you try.
rays2112 3 years ago
thanks man, by the way, nice playing dude, keep it up! and where did you got the hat from? did you made it yourself?
Elbabogrunge 3 years ago
sounds good i just saw the snakes and arrows tour a couple of weeks ago
RyanLemke01 3 years ago
Are you using your 30th aniversery edition snare?
paulie0706 3 years ago
No, I'm using the Sonor snare that I sold.

Nice to see someone playing S&A. Good job. Sounded great. Just saw them last Saturday. Show was great, pretty much same concert from last year but since it was for S&A Live, what I would x-pect.
brianteel2000 3 years ago
it looks like you really like neil peart. the cymbals. the sticks. are both by him. but really good job. I dont like the song so, i cant really tell you if you played it right but, i know you played well. Your no dave weckl or neil peart or any of the greats but, your really good. 2 thumbs up.
