  • what about sea algea and sea creatures like shells and stuff...wont they stick on this device and cause severe friction losses...does it mean u have to clean the machine continuasly

    How much electricity (Kwh) has it actually produced since connection? This sort of information seems to be very scarce for wave energy devices.

  • Iditacom - The target cost of a commercial farm will be £3million per MW installed, comparable with offshore wind. The system can be installed in many locations worldwide in the correct depth range.

    Identernet - the buoyancy of the flap is what stops it going to fully open/closed. It self rights when the conditions are correct. The flap can in fact close completely for maintenance when required.

  • OrionCA1 - It's a wave energy device not tidal energy, very different. Tidal energy uses currents, this captures the energy from the swell of the waves.

    Sasgay - The working fluid is fresh water, the pipe network is a closed loop, so there's no saline water passing through the turbine.

    Pohjalo - The energy and carbon payback periods are about 2 years which is comparable with onshore and offshore wind energy and considerably shorter than hydro or solar schemes

  • What actually stops the flap going too far! Is it a mechanical stop or just the angle making it self limiting?

  • Your concept is well. Costs are now what I want to know. Then how it can apply to other locations.

  • how is the corrosive effect of saline water in the turbine eliminated?

  • Fresh water is used as the working fluid in the pipe running to the turbine and it is then recirculated to be used again.

  • @pohjalo Costs nothing to run aside from periodic maintenace. It simply captures the tidal energy already stored in ocean currents to work a turbine. 100 Oysters linked together can power ~45,000 homes or about the power requirements of a small coastal town. Situated properly the plant can significantly reduce beach erosion to boot.
