Also it's pretty fucking laughable and defeating to personify the negative traits you're imposing on someone else. Sounds like someone never got a humbling life experience because they were too preoccupied jerking off to Webster's.
Hey, homo-boy, do you attract really hot chicks with that dialect?
You dweeb buttfuck loser. You watch these snobby videos and think you're something special, but I'll bet you cant even dress respectably. You'd wear shorts with black knee-high socks and Birkenstocks!! I'll bet you wear rectangular glasses! Loser!!
You don't wipe your ass adequately after you poop so you butt crack STINKS!! Your back is covered with hair and your penis is shriveled and impotent!
Anyway, are you hot? Put some sexy photos of yourself up on your channel, or what the hell, just put some nude ones up there.
At the VERY LEAST, convert your channel to the "old" YouTube format. Frankly, I think this new format, to which most users have been railroaded, SUCKS ROYAL ASS. The aesthetic appeal of the old format was much nicer.
@Cheri592, 'politics' is about choices and compromises, as well as ideology. If you can't get elected, there is a limit to your influence.
Do you know who the most successful 3rd party pres. candidate in history was? Teddy R.; do you know how many electoral votes he got? Ross Perot was very popular with 19% of the popular vote in the '92 election, his electoral vote total? Z E R O.
Paul doesn't even approach 19% in any large canvas. I like many of his ideas; HE HAS NO REALISTIC CHANCE.
Here, I'll pretend to be one of you gay, loner, shut-in, worthless intellectuals, too:
Ergo, to wit, ponder the hypothesis, "Did cavemen laugh when they farted?" Ceteris paribus, one supposes that it would depend on the content of their last meal. Post hoc, ergo propter hoc, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Shame, I haven't gotten laid in 25 years, walking around spewing phrases such as, "et cetera" and "@mcmchugh99".
You pathetic, adults-in-diapers loner shut-in near-dead corpses.
MICHAEL PARENTI, NOAM CHOMSKY, HOWARD ZINN, NAOMI KLEIN, CHRISTIAN PARENTI, GORE VIDAL, ARUNDHATI ROY, ROBERT FISK, VANDANA SHIVA, JASON BURKE, MARC BARRY, GREG PALAST, DAVID RAY GRIFFIN, ALEXANDER COCHBURN, GARY WEBB, BERTRAND RUSSELL, JOHN DEWEY, RALPH NADER, DENNIS KUCINICH, MICHAEL MOORE, GEORGE CARLIN, CORNEL WEST, JOHN PERKINS, ANTONY SUTTON, TARIQ ALI, EDWIN BLACK, SAMUEL EPSTEIN, AMY GOODMAN, JOHN STOCKWELL, MICHAEL RUPPERT, EDWARD SAID, WARD CHURCHILL, DANIEL ELLSBERG etc(NOT ron paul)
Except that Chomsky can' argue his way out of a wet paper bag. Which would be why he needs to constantly revise history and reinvent facts to suit his need.
what accent is Buckley trying to do here? I live in England and I've never heard it before. I hear it in American art galleries all the time. Is there a place in America where everyone sounds like this or is it just obnoxious speak?
@TastyCarcass Pretty sure it's a new england accent. When I was a kid I always thought it was just Americans trying to sound British, which is partially true lol.
@ErikPaulsonFan puts a H before words that begin with the letters 'wh' and generally trying to sound like an intellectual with unusual ways of pronouncing certain words, having a brief pause mid sentence before saying an important word, then slowly dragging it despite the rest of the sentence being spoken fast. Not to mention how he looks down his nose at Chomsky, widens his eyes and is asking un-nessacarily long and complex questions in an attempt to look like he knows what he's talking about.
@skinnydipper16 Again: the way he speaks is the result of learning English the way he did, and as a second language, at that. This is the way the man speaks. You can whine about the way he talks, or you can actually focus on what he's saying.
I could knock Chomsky for the way he always opens his fists to show his palms when he talks (he does this every other second when he's explaining a point), but would be just as silly as what you're doing.
Why can't every debate be this civil and intellectually challenging? To anyone bashing Buckley: Buckley was an incredibly smart individual, with a powerful command of vocabulary. I did not always agree with him, personally, but still, I had to respect what the man had to say, and in the way he said it.
Gee, I was expecting better from Buckley. Instead of trapping his opponent in his own words, he found himself up against someone who advanced his points only as far as he could support them, leaving Buckley no choice but to attempt to put words in his mouth and to interrupt and ultimately failing at that.
I love how incredibly calm and respectful they are to each other despite how they are obviously disagreeing with each other, without resorting to childish ad hominem attacks, or dodging any of the topics brought up. Even if you disagree with one of them you have to admire their capability to have a great discussion like this.
I think Bill Buckley was dead-wrong on these issues, but damn, listen to the way he talks. He's an informed student of history and an intellectual. The modern conservative movement has lost all interest in historical analysis.
The basic structure of this "debate" seems to me to be as follows: Buckley presents his view. Chomsky raises a question poking a major hole in Buckley's version of events, and another. Buckley ignores Chosmky and moves onto his next point dismissing Chomsky's point as a "conceptual difference". It's a shame that Chomsky isn't forceful enough to ensure Buckley listens.
Let me see if this is accurate. Buckley ungraciously will not let Noam Chomsky finish a thought or a sentence. He is constantly digressing, interjecting and interrupting, focusing on individual words or phrases used by Chomsky instead of what is being said. In other words, rather anti-democratic, since his interest is in being confrontational rather than having a productive discussion. In other words, rather than using his education and intelligence he is being a bully. Does this sound familiar?
I hope before he died, William F. Buckley was slapped in the face at least once for his terrible debating skills. This clip of him almost invents the term "douche".
"look i follow you, i follow you. but if you want me to pursue that diversion i will, but let's suspend it for moment." haha that's great stuff. im gonna use that every time i realize im wrong.
Chomsky stabs this pretentious right winger with his feather sword and makes him bleed! What a fool he was to think he can clash with a giant like Chomsky. What an exhibition of ignorance.
Buckley = could he be a poser who repeats the yeild ranking minds depict on any givin forum ..holier than thou..givin "intellectual status" from the impressed european {challenged} power structure. Naom even within his atheist outlook & within a biased crowd - devours this man...the 7os were full of Buckley types awaiting their acknowledged allegence from that one powerful council. <--Billy pushed thru spewing books articles, "gov reviews" etc escaping humiliation.. until now? nahh, couldnt be.
@dubvishun Wat? Pretty much every expert I've ever heard talk about Buckley notes how he was a one of a kind face of conservatism that really brought it back into the limelight and into the national conversation. There was just an article on NPR about that as a matter of fact.
Make fun of Buckley all you want. Compared to the freakshows calling themselves conservatives nowadays I would take a thousand Buckleys. I think Chomsky might agree with me on that.
@ZombiBuddy Indeed; there is a lucidity and rationale to his conservatism. Chomsky is a formidable thinker but I think his characterization of American imperialism is too loose, and doesn't take enough account of the differing historical context. The 'imperialism' (if it was that) post-1945 was different from that of 1898. I would lean towards Buckley's view on that though the Truman Doctrine was not of course as benign or disinterested as he makes out.
@ZombiBuddy I can’t discern a great deal of difference between Buckley and his modern counterparts...he presents as being somewhat oily and over familiar – the wink at Chomsky being especially cringe worthy - I suppose it is possible that he genuinely believed his own guff about war being necessary to ensure future security rather than the very real ambition of a new world order, an idea that probably got kicked around long before Cheney and co had their brain wave.
@ZombiBuddy yea today the republican party is full of neo-con's who have no interest in following true republican principles, i say this of course with the exception of Ron Paul.
@fLcGambit Ron Paul is actually a Libertarian at heart and tried to make it on the Libertarian ticket for many years without much success. He switched to the Republican party to improve his chances of getting elected. Paul wants to reduce the size of the State to its necessary functions, which includes eliminating the FBI & CIA (not all forms of intelligence), which he considers both wasteful and corrupt in the case of the CIA. A traditional Republican would never dream of doing this.
@ZombiBuddy Well, in an ideal world, we'd have a thousand Goldwaters and these neocons would all take a hike, Buckley included. Though your point is most certainly made.
i've watched this many times and realized that as soon as that idiot Buckley is about to lose an argument he changes subject to try and throw Chomsky off, which doesn't work so they can never finish an argument.. so frustrating!
Trolls --so easy to identify; insulting Buckley for having the *audacity* to suggest that people should be happier without Facism or Communism. Read the book Stasi Land before going out in your Che t-shirt and fake Palestinian-style scarf --bought at the local mall of course, and feel free to argue the merits of socialism and all of its wonderful contributions; Just don't forget state sanctioned murder, total censorship, the Berlin Wall; recruiting 8-year olds into the army, etc.
Well this is just one of the all too many cases on our books of Americanism. The only way that we can fight this terrible debilitating social disease, is by informing the general public of its consequences, by showing young people that it's just not worth it. So, so please give generously to this address: The League for fighting the United States of America, 55 Lincoln House, Basil Street, London, SW3.
@philbelanger2 Are you high? Chomsky was stating utter bullshit as if it was fact. I see that he was an asshole forty years just as he is an asshole now
Chomsky is indeed a very intelligent man. That is what makes his case so troubling. He knows that what he says is false. As Paul Postal wrote in the New Yorker "He will lie just for the fun of it." Buckley would not have invited him to debate if he knew that Chomsky debates in bad faith, making up facts to counter logical arguments. Nowadays you never see Chomsky invited to anything except fringe events, because mainstream liberals don't take him seriously anymore.
@maidenman69 If what Chomsky was saying was false he would be exposed in no time by any decent educated person. Chomsky is invited to speak all around the world. Name one thing Chomsky said that was false.
Chomsky is no longer invited to public debates because absolutely every time he has been confronted in any real time exchange (or print, when he's the access to defend himself) it results in either:
(a) Chomsky instantly and effortlessly backing his interlocutor into a logical corner
(b) citing string of facts that his adversary doesn't even *try* to challenge (barring attempts to shout him down [Silber] or change the subject [Buckley])
@polymath7 and this is to @jjbubbs23 s well. Just one lie? OK. In October 18, 2001 he lectured in MIT that the United States was going to commit genocide in Afghanistan, killing 3-4 million. When this didn't take place and later he was asked about this being attributed to him in New Yorker magazine, he claimed he didn't say it, apparently unaware that the lecture had been videotaped. You know you can just google "200 chomsky lies" and check the footnotes yourself.
@Nater245689 I'm not talking about the genocide. I''m talking about him denying what he said before, caught on tape. That's called lying. But in point of fact he doubled down on the claim of genocide AFTER the Taliban was deposed, in an interview in the UK paper The Independent published on Dec 4, 2003. So this guy jumps from one foot to the other depending on who he talks to. That's called dishonesty and it's the reason why respectable leftists like The New Republic have disavowed him.
@maidenman69: No he did not say that. I watched the video and read the transcript. First, Chomsky was going off of what the New York Times had said. Second, he stated that the New York Times said that UN nations reported that 7.5 millions of Afghans will be in-need of a loaf of bread, and that few weeks before harsh winters will make deliveries impossible. He then said, "continuing to quote, but with bombs falling the delivery rate is down to * of what is needed. Casual comment. Which tells...
@H1TMANactual NC despises Friedman. Who wouldn't, Friedman is a pro Israel weasel neo-liberal NYT propaganda mouthpiece. I hate Friedman and his vulgar, mundane and stupid pragmatic analogies. Besides, Friedman is not a debater, his a gatekeeper. Oh, and...if there was a God, I would be thankful for taking Buckley and his annoying phony BULLSHIT from polluting the environment of ideas.
@H1TMANactual <--- here we see the progressive laid bare; as the bullying spoiled child that he is, glad for someone dying while simultaneously insulting millions of faithful (Christians, Muslims, Jews, and so on). Did that include the children, too?
William F. Buckley strikes me as the kind of guy who enjoys classic music, while sipping his expensive whiskey, all while sitting in a throne-like chair. Just calmly looking at the world burning, while going: "Gosh, this IS a good whiskey"
8:09 an absurd argument that conflicts inherently with his attempt to characterize the U.S. as imperialistic (in the traditional sense of the term). a nation will be atleast basically structured for imperialism before it attempts to practice it. If The U.S'.s intent
@tankwfw i only see one intelligent person on stage. william buckley is not worth the left testicle of Noam chomsky. buckley is an arrogant uneducated unlearned unethical non-human. chomsky sets traps for him like humans do to rats and buckley walks straight into them. and then because he can't take being humbled he interrupts chomsky at every chance. like a kid who throws a tantrum when not allowed any ice cream. the bit about belgium in the congos illustrates this point clearly.
I would say that the quality of Chomsky's modern young supporters, and their intelligence is probably one of his greatest deficits as a public figure..
In 2008, more than three times as many Greeks answered that they were glad the right had won than had wished Chomsky's communists had won their civil war. Even decades later, Buckley was right, Chomsky was wrong.
If Noam were being mugged and he called out for help, I suppose it would be immoral to intervene. He's lucky Americans are smarter and more ethical than he.
I hate this fucking asshole (Chomsky). I'm neither a Democrat or Republican, but Chomsky comes off like an asshole. Good Lord, he speaks as if the US is some monstrous imperialistic menace and the USSR was busy minding its own business. He is clearly pro-communist - or at least pro-socialist - and is just infuriating in his support of anything or any philosophy that is antithetical to American interests. Truman Doctrine saved Greece/Turkey's collective asses/kept them from becoming commies.
@beeroosterm actually Chomsky is an anarchist. so before you say that he is pro anything you should look at the facts. He isnt inherently anti american....he is anit human right abuses and it just happens that the U.S. has been one of the biggest proponents of human rights abuses since WWII
@grahamgrider Yes, he's an anarchist - he stands for nothing. He argues, argues, argues - endlessly for something that will never exist. There is no country on earth that hasn't abused someone's rights. And the USA is the easiest target. So fuck you, Noam Chomsky, go live in..........where? Fantasyland? Will someone please tell me if there is a place Chomsky can live where he will shut his fucking lily-livered mouth? Please, someone, anyone...
@Traiannnn Excuse me while I yawn....there. Tell you what - don't come crying to the USA when Islam takes over your country. I give them 20 years until sharia is the law of the land. The Netherlands is already a shadow of its former self. Hope you enjoyed your childhood, because those days are gone forever...
Haha! Islam? Are you afraid of the Islam?! No mate, the islam wont do things. The islam is the scapegoat in this situation. That started in which year.. Hmm.. 2001! Yes, the year when 2 buildings got destroyed by 2 airplanes. A guy named Osama Binladen. I'm sorry, are you 1 of the 10% of the USA people that still believes that shit? I feel sorry for you being blinded by your lying media and government. And oh yes, will the days be gone. But not by islam, it's because of the Elite.
@beeroosterm actually as an anarchist he believes in a lot....you are just not educated enough to know about is as you demonstrated in your last ignorant and profanity laced comment...maybe you should read a book
@grahamgrider Can't figure out if you're too stupid to understand my insult or if you're so stupid you don't understand you just insulted your own parents. Guess it's both...
@beeroosterm Why would NC move to another country? Socrates (according to Plato's account of his supposed existence) was found guilty of "corrupting" the young with his questioning of Greek society, religion, specially it's political elite and policies. His punishment was to leave Greece never to return, or alternatively take his own life by hemlock poisoning. He chose the latter, for he wouldn't leave Athens by force.
NC is American, more than most, and his goal is to see it BETTER!
@lapwiz Don't see how someone can be "more American" than another. And NC is just an old anarchist now. While his sermons do not fall on deaf ears, they may as well for all the good they've ever done - although they are not designed as such. He offers nothing but criticism; his "answers" are....oh, fuck it...
@beeroosterm Well, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. You are quite obviously ignorant of the pivotal role NC has played on grassroots movements both domestically and abroad. What you cynically refer to as "sermons", only show how little you know of his work and influence to popular movements in the last 5 years. The role of the intellectual is to point out the flaws in any given system, then, in the case of NC point out the fact that the people know what needs done. He's not a messiah.
@beeroosterm If you look at any given social, economic or political issue across the board, the citizenry overwhelmingly oppose illegitimate power, and despise the crony pseudo-democracy, or quasi fascist system in power in America for the last 60 years.
The problem with people like you, so indoctrinated into expecting saviors and leader, is that you are incapable of thinking for yourself, other have to do all your thinking for you, then you follow them. NC, is a libertarian socialist.....
@lapwiz Crony pseudo-democracy? Quasi-fascist? Indoctrinated? Noam Chomsky is a tired old fuck. Let him fucking die with his fantasies...Fuck him, fuck you, and fuck this place.
@beeroosterm I rest my case, you're a complete idiot! And you have the balls to criticize NC when you're as lazy a debater as a crackhead whore. Put the crack pipe down, and go discuss at the people magazine channel, you ignorant slob!
@beeroosterm And as such, old or young, he believes (as I do) that there are not preset formulas to be followed. Free, non hierarchical decision making systems, which is the foundation of classic anarchist thought, presupposes that communities democratically decide on issues, as opposed to electing "representatives" to decide for them. But that is difficult in a culture that glamorizes individualism, as the case of the US. You don't grasp anarchism, to offer criticism yet, read about it then...
@beeroosterm As for more American than most..; He devoted his entire adult life to social and political activism, played a pivotal role in the anti Vietnam war and civil rights movement and provided the most comprehensive and extensive body of published works, both in academic journals and books on many crucial subjects for 40 years.
So, if you measure a citizen by the efforts he makes to the betterment of his country it would't be an exaggeration to call him more american than, say YOU!
@lapwiz I would say that for all his whining, Chomsky has accomplished little more than rabble-rousing. I respect his intellect but not his opinions, which is too fucking broad a stroke to discuss here. I'm signing off. You may have the last word.
@beeroosterm Those are words you'll never hear from Noam Chomsky, even at his advanced age. Go take a nap, I'm sure you're MacDonald's job can be quite intellectually challenging.
@beeroosterm Well, Sir. you offered an empty argument and I called you on. If you don't have time for serious arguments you shouldn't post on serious forums. I assure you that I have a life, but I keep up with my life and have the decency and courtesy to respond to people with the at-most respect and consideration. You not only proved that you are ignorant on the subject you poorly attempted to offer your ignorant opinion, but you also lack the most basic social skills to interact with others.
@beeroosterm If your single cell existence is called a "LIFE", I would rather debate sea algae, at least they don't curse, they're just innate and submerged in salty water. It is amazing that someone, such as yourself, muster the intellectual skill to turn a computer on, given that your single digit IQ can't hardly equal that of a primate.
@beeroosterm Right, yet you're here...you're just like Buckley, all smoke and no substance. Why do you people even attempt to question brilliant men like NC when you can't even formulate a coherent argument, is beyond me. I wonder how many academic journals you can offer a thesis with; "fuck him, fuck you and fuck this forum". Thank you for your priceless contribution to this debate. Don't leave mad, just leave.
@beeroosterm Could you list a few positions NC have taken that you take issue with?
His intellect requires no validation from you, he is considered the most influential intellectual alive, and have been for the last 30 years. The most quoted author in history, and listed as one of the 10 most important intellectuals in the 20 century in the a very small list with people like Marx, Russel, Einstein, etc... Buckley, didn't make that list, as disappointing as that maybe to you.
You're a fucking retard blinded by your own media and government. Jesus Christ, don't comment or even watch these video's if you know seriously nothing about the world. Please, get lost. Noam Chomsky is one of the smartests humans on this planet earth. He's now in his 80s and still knowing how this system works. He even has solutions. If you think we should live in this capitalism world, you're a total retard. By the way, did I mention oil will be gone in 20 years? Have fun.
@Traiannnn Noam Chomsky is an anarchist who has nothing good to say of any system where people are regulated by law. In other words, while he physically prefers to live in the USA, he conceptually lives in a world of fantasy that cannot possibly ever exist - and where he consistently compares the values of our great nation (free expression, freedom from religion, pursuit of happiness, etc.) to those of murderous, fascist failures like the USSR, Nazi Germany, etc. Now fuck off, you stupid cunt.
@beeroosterm So what is so wrong with anarchism then? Don't people have the right to organise for their own rights? You say freedom of religion yet you attack Islam like its judaism in the late 30's. Fascism is an nationalist authoritarian stateform in which people are indoctrinated and where the media, state and corporations are actually one thing. The US capitalists supported the Nazi's during the 2nd world war and most dictatorships since the 1950s for opportunistic profit. Now you fuck off.
@jonb5890 Nothing is wrong with anarchy, capitalist or socialist (though it will never actually work in the real world). But why would people dissolve government only to go back to collective? Most likely they dissolved it b/c they were tired of paying taxes for shit they didn't want to. Right socialism didn't work but it will work without a govt.
And b/c a few individuals supported Nazis is NOT an argument against an economic system.
@Traiannnn It was estimated that the worlds oil supply would run out by 1910. In 1924 it was estimated that the worlds oil supply would run out by 1953. In 1974 it was estimated that the worlds oil supply would run out by 2000. People have been saying that we will run out of oil for the past 200 years. They were all wrong. The price system and new technologies will ensure that we do not run out of resources. We will get off oil the same way we got off of whale oil and kerosene
Oil is pretty much unreplaceable at this moment in time. Just do the maths. Research it yourself. Research how much oil we get, use, and how much there's left.
@Traiannnn Oh fuck off moron! They have been saying oil is running out since oil was discovered. And what world would you like to live in? Socialist? Yeah we tried that. Grab a history book.
So what you're saying is, that oil will never run out, because every time someone tells you oil will run out you don't believe them because someone ELSE ever said the same thing. WAR is bad, that's what they said a thousand times too, so NOW it's good? You don't have any arguements. And by saying I'm against capitalism, means I'm a socialist? Grab a history book? Thanks, I've read plenty of history. Fuck off machine man.
@Traiannnn@Traiannn Thanks for the laugh!! So you think an anti-semitic, American-hating, self-aggrandized pseudo-intellectual Communist is "one of the smartest humans on this planet earth"?! By what means do you base that purely emotional statement on? You live in the Socialist Netherlands. Have you ever lived in a Capitalist country? No doubt you have been brainwashed since birth to take, rather than give. Please provide documented evidence of Chomsky being the genious you believe he is.
Netherlands being socialist? HAHAHAHA, thanks for the laugh! I'm saying Chomsky is one of the smartest men in the world because if you would try to argue with him, he will simply win :)!
And I'm sorry, but he IS (one of the) smartest men in the world. Did you know he has world wide linguistics? He has found the roots of languages. And he studied philosophy, yea he's completely stupid.
@Traiannnn Chomsky not only effectively (re)invented the entire field of linguistics as we now know it from the ground up, he is arguably *the* most eminent figure in the cognitive sciences of the last fifty years (as far as I can see his only serious rival is Minsky). He has as plausible a claim to the title of "Brightest human being on Earth" as absolutely anyone breathing.
@Lee05211 Noam Chomsky is not a Communist. He is an anarcho sydicalist. In other words, he believes centralized government should be eliminated and economics should be based on co-operative labor owned organizations in which individuals participate directly and democratically in business and political decisions. He is closer to a conservative point of view than most people realize. Unfortunately, the entrenched right has traditionally painted him as a Commie Radical.
Wow. Chomsky SMOKED him! This is such an iconic video, with lions of their respective poles of political thought in the ring together. Buckley resorts to rhetorical tactics and Chomsky just rolls forward, calmly and surely, with an insane grasp of history and logic, right over a flailing Buckley. Gotta admit I have a sweet spot for Buckley and his indulgence though.
All of you people riding ChumPsky's dick need to listen to this again. Noam is good at leading arguments where he wants them, not so good at actually looking at all facts when doing so.
@drizztf88 Not exactly defending Buckley, though how well he did in the debate could be argued, (the crowd, both here on youtube, and there live at the debate seem firmly on chumpsky's side from the beginning.) Just saying that Noam is rarely anywhere near as correct as people seem to always want to assume he is.
Buckley is considered the foremost conservative thinker in the 20th century United States, and look at him, pathetic, looks like a fat cat male version of Ann Coulter.
Buckley out of his league from the get go. He knows it too, which is actually admirable, but instead of submitting, he gets angry, and that's the main sign of weakness.
Still, in the neo-con era, you almost pine for the Buckleys to return and replace the Romneys, Perrys, Cains, and Bachmanns......at least he valued intelligence.
May Chomsky live to 110. Need him around as long as possible
Also it's pretty fucking laughable and defeating to personify the negative traits you're imposing on someone else. Sounds like someone never got a humbling life experience because they were too preoccupied jerking off to Webster's.

Whatever, pal.
Chomsky is no slouch, but Bill F. B. was the preeminent intellect of the 20th Century, BAR NONE.
And Chomsky dissembles shamelessly in this exchange. Typical liberal prevarication and circumlocution.

what accent is Buckley trying to do here? I live in England and I've never heard it before. I hear it in American art galleries all the time. Is there a place in America where everyone sounds like this or is it just obnoxious speak?

cdphatty 2 weeks ago
@TastyCarcass It's explained on his Wikipedia page. Spanish was his first language, for years, before he learned any English at all.
What exactly is obnoxious about the way Buckley is speaking?
ErikPaulsonFan 2 weeks ago
@ErikPaulsonFan puts a H before words that begin with the letters 'wh' and generally trying to sound like an intellectual with unusual ways of pronouncing certain words, having a brief pause mid sentence before saying an important word, then slowly dragging it despite the rest of the sentence being spoken fast. Not to mention how he looks down his nose at Chomsky, widens his eyes and is asking un-nessacarily long and complex questions in an attempt to look like he knows what he's talking about.
skinnydipper16 2 weeks ago
@skinnydipper16 Again: the way he speaks is the result of learning English the way he did, and as a second language, at that. This is the way the man speaks. You can whine about the way he talks, or you can actually focus on what he's saying.
I could knock Chomsky for the way he always opens his fists to show his palms when he talks (he does this every other second when he's explaining a point), but would be just as silly as what you're doing.
It's what they're saying that's important.
ErikPaulsonFan 2 weeks ago
Why can't every debate be this civil and intellectually challenging? To anyone bashing Buckley: Buckley was an incredibly smart individual, with a powerful command of vocabulary. I did not always agree with him, personally, but still, I had to respect what the man had to say, and in the way he said it.

ZombiBuddy 1 month ago 33

@fLcGambit Ron Paul is actually a Libertarian at heart and tried to make it on the Libertarian ticket for many years without much success. Nowadays you never see Chomsky invited to anything except fringe events, because mainstream liberals don't take him seriously anymore.
maidenman69 2 months ago
@maidenman69 If what Chomsky was saying was false he would be exposed in no time by any decent educated person. Chomsky is invited to speak all around the world. Name one thing Chomsky said that was false.
JJbubbs23 2 months ago
@maidenman69 Name one of Chomsky's lies.
One.
Chomsky is no longer invited to public debates because absolutely every time he has been confronted in any real time exchange (or print, when he's the access to defend himself) it results in either:
(a) Chomsky instantly and effortlessly backing his interlocutor into a logical corner
(b) citing string of facts that his adversary doesn't even *try* to challenge (barring attempts to shout him down [Silber] or change the subject [Buckley])
polymath7 2 months ago
@polymath7 and this is to @jjbubbs23 s well. Just one lie? OK. In October 18, 2001 he lectured in MIT that the United States was going to commit genocide in Afghanistan, killing 3-4 million. When this didn't take place and later he was asked about this being attributed to him in New Yorker magazine, he claimed he didn't say it, apparently unaware that the lecture had been videotaped. You know you can just google "200 chomsky lies" and check the footnotes yourself.

Nater245689 2 months ago
@Nater245689 I'm not talking about the genocide. I''m talking about him denying what he said before, caught on tape. That's called lying. But in point of fact he doubled down on the claim of genocide AFTER the Taliban was deposed, in an interview in the UK paper The Independent published on Dec 4, 2003. So this guy jumps from one foot to the other depending on who he talks to. That's called dishonesty and it's the reason why respectable leftists like The New Republic have disavowed him.

NC is American, more than most, and his goal is to see it BETTER!
lapwiz 1 month ago
@lapwiz Don't see how someone can be "more American" than another. And NC is just an old anarchist now. While his sermons do not fall on deaf ears, they may as well for all the good they've ever done - although they are not designed as such. He offers nothing but criticism; his "answers" are....oh, fuck it...

What you cynically refer to as "sermons", only show how little you know of his work and influence to popular movements in the last 5 years. The role of the intellectual is to point out the flaws in any given system, then, in the case of NC point out the fact that the people know what needs done. He's not a messiah.

The problem with people like you, so indoctrinated into expecting saviors and leader, is that you are incapable of thinking for yourself, other have to do all your thinking for you, then you follow them. NC, is a libertarian socialist.....

lapwiz 1 month ago
@beeroosterm And as such, old or young, he believes (as I do) that there are not preset formulas to be followed. Free, non hierarchical decision making systems, which is the foundation of classic anarchist thought, presupposes that communities democratically decide on issues, as opposed to electing "representatives" to decide for them. But that is difficult in a culture that glamorizes individualism, as the case of the US. You don't grasp anarchism, to offer criticism yet, read about it then...
lapwiz 1 month ago
@beeroosterm As for more American than most..; He devoted his entire adult life to social and political activism, played a pivotal role in the anti Vietnam war and civil rights movement and provided the most comprehensive and extensive body of published works, both in academic journals and books on many crucial subjects for 40 years.
So, if you measure a citizen by the efforts he makes to the betterment of his country it would't be an exaggeration to call him more american than, say YOU!

@beeroosterm You are a gentleman and a scholar, Sir I salute you.
fiveredpears 3 months ago
@beeroosterm So what is so wrong with anarchism then? Don't people have the right to organise for their own rights? You say freedom of religion yet you attack Islam like its judaism in the late 30's. Fascism is an nationalist authoritarian stateform in which people are indoctrinated and where the media, state and corporations are actually one thing. The US capitalists supported the Nazi's during the 2nd world war and most dictatorships since the 1950s for opportunistic profit. Now you fuck off.
jonb5890 2 months ago 22
@jonb5890 Nothing is wrong with anarchy, capitalist or socialist (though it will never actually work in the real world). But why would people dissolve government only to go back to collective? Most likely they dissolved it b/c they were tired of paying taxes for shit they didn't want to. Right socialism didn't work but it will work without a govt.
And b/c a few individuals supported Nazis is NOT an argument against an economic system.
Now your turn to fuck off :)

We will get off oil the same way we got off of whale oil and kerosene
moonshot926 2 months ago
@moonshot926
Oil is pretty much unreplaceable at this moment in time. Just do the maths. Research it yourself. Research how much oil we get, use, and how much there's left.
RuneScapeTink 2 months ago
@Traiannnn Oh fuck off moron! They have been saying oil is running out since oil was discovered. And what world would you like to live in? Socialist? Yeah we tried that. Grab a history book.
And Chomsky by no means is "smartests humans".
H1TMANactual 2 months ago
@H1TMANactual
Traiannnn 2 months ago
@Traiannnn I don't know what you were smoking before you made war and oil analogy.
When oil does indeed comes close to running out, price will rise and markets will find alternatives. Did whale oil run out?
"If you think we should live in this capitalism world, you're a total retard."
Do tell if that doesn't make you a socialist, then which economic system do you propose?
H1TMANactual 2 months ago
@Traiannnn @Traiannn Thanks for the laugh!!

@Lee05211
Netherlands being socialist? HAHAHAHA, thanks for the laugh! I'm saying Chomsky is one of the smartest men in the world because if you would try to argue with him, he will simply win :)!

@Lee05211

C'mon. In this video Buckley simply makes stuff up.
drizztf88 3 months ago
@drizztf88 Not exactly defending Buckley, though how well he did in the debate could be argued, (the crowd, both here on youtube, and there live at the debate seem firmly on chumpsky's side from the beginning.) Just saying that Noam is rarely anywhere near as correct as people seem to always want to assume he is.

Buckley is considered the foremost conservative thinker in the 20th century United States, and look at him, pathetic, looks like a fat cat male version of Ann Coulter.
Mewzickchannel 3 months ago
Buckley out of his league from the get go. He knows it too, which is actually admirable, but instead of submitting, he gets angry, and that's the main sign of weakness.
Still, in the neo-con era, you almost pine for the Buckleys to return and replace the Romneys, Perrys, Cains, and Bachmanns......at least he valued intelligence.
May Chomsky live to 110. Need him around as long as possible
