  • I think she's more beautiful here than in her younger MGM days, when they gave her makeup and hair styles that often made her look artificial and "lacquered". She's so much more womanly and natural here.

  • i visit her grave often here in stockholm:D

  • je suis tout simplement sous le charme et quel sourire..... un pure bonheur de regarder cette vidéo.merci

  • perfection itself!

  • She looked like 60 but she was just 44 at that time...

  • What a wondrous smile she had! I found myself smiling watching her smile. She radiated beauty!

  • Wow she looks great for being so old.

  • @MissKaleighI We should all look so good at 45!

  • how many expressions in just 2 minutes..----she was really divine......and so was her smile.....

  • Super beautiful for a 45 year old woman! Beautiful in general, i love her so much!

  • Please, what's the music?

  • her 'appeal' has always eluded us.

  • What a range of expressions, although many are quite somber. I think that women who play with their hair that much are a bit insecure. She was a tremendous actress.

  • G.G. resterà sempre una delle donne più belle del mondo.Il suo volto è sempre attuale.

  • It wasn't a case of Garbo not liking the way she looked in these tests. The film's backers could not raise the money and the project was cancelled. She was hurt, taking it personally, and left Holywood, moving permanently to NewYork City.

She was 43 years of age when these tests were made.

  • haha she's so cute ( :

  • How old is she in these screen tests? I have though that Garbo has beautiful bone. But in this, she looks around 30 odd years old. That cannot be right? x

  • Yes you had at that time whole beautiful women.

    thank you.

  • tenia 49 y estaba hermosa... una diosa

  • Hello, does anyone know if this is the famous screen test Garbo made to make a comeback, but then decided not to because she didn't like the way she looked on screen at this age? IMDB has her last movie listed in 1941, this screen test says 1949. Anyone know the story behind this??

  • @MrJosephsmileuske If it really is from 1949, it must be. I had always wondered myself what she didn't like, but until now I had never seen the footage, or even knew that it existed. Sure beats me what she didn't like about it!

  • @MrJosephsmileuske look on wikipedia, it says it was about "financing"

  • Too bad she never received more complex talky roles at the end of her tenure. I bet she would have been great playing a business woman or criminal. Maybe she did not want to be regarded in any way except the leading woman that the men all want. But, can anyone see her in the James Mason role in "Odd Man Out"?

  • @stefan103 wait, are you saying she should have played a man? LOL

  • I'm in love.

  • The best cheekbones and forehead ever to appear on the screen.

    Exquisite.

  • well, i say it is a petty we didn't watch her while she was growing and became more mature... we could see her marvelous face, glance getting older and we could... well, just love it!!!

  • The most fascinating human face since Nefertiti.

  • @Qonsbg i agree with you there....there's other actresses...then there's Garbo..

  • Garbo has a way of looking that I've only seen in one other person: Rudolf Nureyev. It as if they are mentally 100 miles away from the camera in thought, but the camera catches that indefinable, indescribable inner radiance that shows through their eyes and allows us to superimpose our own ideas on what they are thinking.

  • swedish people are beautiful. naturally tall and slim and amazing face features, i´m happy i´m swedish :)

  • lol.... nice screen test lol

  • I think she was the greatest screen actor of all time. She should have acted forever.

  • gorgeous, stunning, flawless...my god, that face!!

  • @wholikescinema I extracted that music from a movie called "The Mysterious Lady" with Greta Garbo.

  • you know, except for the eyes, she and katharine hepburn looked a lot alike

  • She´s face and expression is just... Can words describe it?

  • @archdandy123 I've tried to in my earlier post, but its a quality that was there from the moment she was born, you cannot analyse instinct.

  • @archdandy123 No.

  • In my opinion, she most likely would have returned to the screen, but I got the impression somewhere they insinuated she was too old. (what a joke). I may be wrong, please correct me if I am. Either way they threw their millionaire dollar baby under the bus. Idiots....

  • she looks great in her 40's. Too bad the movie was never made. I wonder why she never made any movies after 1941.. I know WWII affected her popularity and she was aging but this screen test proves she still charisma. Seems like we would have made European films.

  • 0:40

she looks like gloria swanson in "Sunset boulevard"

  • Wauw great to see this !

  • She looked tired of hollywood's phoniness.

  • Elle est divinement adorable !

J'adore particulièrement quand elle hausse son sourcil gauche. Elle a une façon bien à elle de le faire qui est inimitable !

Quel dommage qu'elle ait stoppé sa carrière si tôt (36 ans).

  • Who said she died????

She's pretty alive to me in my heart, forever. ♥

  • @Amberduet -I see your point, but Greta Garbo's been dead 20 years, honey. She was pushing 85 when she died.

  • @MiltownPunkette21 - I don't know if you really saw my point, but I'm trying to understand yours. lol

I know she died 20 years ago, I'm just saying.. shes immortal to me..

  • @Amberduet -I understand that. Not sure if you got what I meant.

  • how could a person be so BEAUTIFUL!!!! the ultimate DIVA!

  • WOW!... I had read about this test, but didn't think I'd ever get to see it. (You can read her lips at one point, whese she says, "Stop it!"...) Thanks for posting... What a woman!

  • Gotta love at 1:00 when she turns her head and then gives a small surprise face and then laughs....she was gold

  • Greta is super sexy, I so Would have dated her, mood swins and all.

  • HOW WONDERFUL - thak you so much for posting!

  • i wish they would have let her smile more in her movies...she had the most breathtaking smile.

  • simply the greatest beauty and diva of all time...the gold standard to which all others will forever be compared....just the name alone has lightning in it when said......Garbo!!....

  • @corker99 damn straight... damn straight...

  • As per historians, in this year, her Hollywood reign was over. Years prior, no one would dare do a screen test of her. This was of her own choosing to see if she thought she still had "it" - she did, however, she felt otherwise and chose to retire, never to look back with regret

  • @damienrecords I have read biographies and it turns out that the financiers did not come through with the money for the film they wanted to cast her in. It is too bad that she never made a film after the Two Faced Woman.

  • Most most wonderful of you to have this and posted it, gracias, gracias, gracias!

  • BEAUTIFUL !!!

  • Amazing what she can convey in a split second. Her face could change into 100 emotions in a couple minutes,

  • Does anyone know what this screen test was for ? I have read that she was to return to film about this time in a film version of Proust's "Remembrance Of Things Past" Was this in prep. for it ?Would really like to know so if anyone knows what this was for I would appreciate it .

  • it was for La Duchess de Langelais, which was to co-star James Mason. It never was made due to financial and censorship issues in the States.

  • I'm sure she was a difficult person but my goodness she is beautiful. I think she and Judy Garland are the most talented performers so far in film history.
