Every "version" of the Sunburst comes from the same source print. All the "bright," "dark," "orange," "red" variations all depend on how the print comes out of the lab.
I believe that most of the time, logos are attached to the film's negative by making a negative off of a positive print itself made off of the negative. Then, the prints used to make video masters are themselves made off the negative.
Depending on how it's processed at any step, it can look different...
To clarify: The logo itself starts as a negative. My assumption is that to attach it to films, they make a positive print off the negative, then make a negative off of that positive.
Then, when they make prints of the film, they make a positive of the whole negative.
So in the pre-digital days, a logo went through three generations before we'd actually see it. This is why logos often have printed-in dirt, etc.; this is also why they don't look exactly the same every time.
YEP....This same version with the darker colors and the closing music playing over it (before I replaced it) also appears after the movie "The Shadow Riders" on Encore Westerns. From what I've read, the DVD release has it as well.
@mcydodge919 I was watching Shadow Riders on AMC last weekend I stood there with my fingers cross to make sure Sony Pictures Television didn't record over the sunburst logo I figured they didn't they left it alone and the Sony logo came after it they should've done the same thing with Barney Miller.
This was on someone's "scariest logo" compilation, and all I could say was that I missed this one! :D

this is obviously a digitally remastered version of the CPT logo It isn't like the original 70's-80's airing.
