Because the REAL original versions were Pocket Monsters Red and Green in Japan, about 3 years before Pokemon was even heard of here. Pocket Monsters Blue was the first of the special editions of the original series games, which released before Pokemon had arrived in NA. When it came here, they released red as was and then blue as a mid way between green and blue. Therefore, why make remakes of the originals that aren't the originals.

Why was Final Fantasy 4 called Final Fantasy 2 and 6 being 3. Blame Nintendo of America for fucking it up because they had a track record for that kind of bull shit in the 90's before the internet became rampant worldwide. hell we wouldn't have know that there were six final fantasies on Nintendo consoles if it weren't for the internet when ff7 was released. As a result they can't get away with that crap anymore, so they left it as leafgreen as per THE original games.
