Thanks for the upload. Contrary to Grey80002's opinion, it's pretty important to watch the whole video to make sure it's done right. Just a quick question, do you have any professional filming experience? Or are you just an amateur enthusiast?
Many thanks, Leo, this is a very useful, practical and informative video. It has given me the motivation to try this myself. Really appreciate your clear explanation and "hidden" reward at the end.
Cool video, man! I just had a question .... are these better to use (worklight I mean) than the dome/scoop light fixtures? The problem with Domes is that they're flimsy, and I tried putting a makeshift Softbox on it and it couldn't support the weight of half a pound of cardboard. Problem with worklights ... too bright for me. Too many watts. But wouldn't it be better to use worklights in the end? they're shaped like a pro video light. Just wondering. Thanks for posting this.
Thank you Leo! This was really great and I really appreciate you taking the time to share it. I was going to pick up some work lights tomorrow and now I am also going to pick up some tins and paint. really great info, thank you!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is a nine minute video on how to fold a frozen food container in order to make a flap for a light. A normal person could work this out in about 30 seconds. Really stupid dude.
I wathced the whole video... but err kind of agree with Grey80002. There is not much of a point of marking out folds if you dont' ensure they are straight by using a ruler...
One more concern would be the longevity of the doors. You aren't using a permanent hinge but relying on the foil folding. wouldn't these snap and become weak over time?
@Grey80002 Wow, so uncalled for. The man takes the time to do the video and share his process with the rest of the world, and you put him down for it. People are so rude on the net and say things that they would never say to your face. I really appreciated that Leo took his time in the explanation.
that was really interesting ! i just love the charges at the end!!! Also just now seeing how good you are at making tutorials , could you do one on how to make quality films with pretty much nothing apart from a camera and computer as i want to make really good films like you.
nice tutorial... just what I was lookin to do. Now I know what to do with the worklights collecting dust in the shed. thx.... Oh And Thanks for the tip and comment.
Hi, great work, very Heath Robinson. While they might look a bit rough, they appear to certainly do the job for us amateurs who will only use them every now and then, not every day.
I have decided to move over to CFL lights, and just got a set of softboxes from ebay. Now Bunnings have a couple of large CFL work lights. They are a bit more exey than the ones you use, but are daylight balanced and with the barndoors I hope will be great for hair lights and backgrounds etc
I have seen those lights as well, and you can see where we live the domestic lighting industry is going green, and like anything new comes a price like you say.
To be honest I really like using banks of 50W down lights, which I put round pie trays around to control the spill.
I did these sort of lights as I see tubers everywhere using them, plenty of people showing off their little studios in their homes, and not a barn door in sight.
This video is awesome and of great help to me and others I'm sure. I'm glad Beanmeister22 sent me over here! I'm Going to send this to some friends and incorporate these onto my lights.
Leo, I am very greatly impressed with the thought you put into this video; not just the video itself, but also providing further information for the interested in the description box.
This attention to detail is an al to rare thing here on YT, and you should be commended, sir.
Yay! I watched the whole vid and I got asplosions!!! :-D Great idea about the barn doors, I'm gonna try that.
Also, can't wait for the tracking system vid; I was wondering how you install one. Third and final, I heard you mention a CGI scene. What program do you use?
Sweat. I had that same Idea when I did my first Action Figurine and Die Cast Star Ships Star Trek Vs. Star Wars video back in May of 2007. It was based on a Star Trek Parody Fanifilm called Star Wreck In The Pirkinning. If anyone here is familliar with what I'm talking about. I used the lights as a nearby star to make the Image a little more dramatic, along with the Enterprise and all those Arrow head shaped Star Destroyers. Maybe I should send it to you if I ever get to posting it.
Great video. really appreciate it!

Nice video, thanks! Do you use ordinary halogen bulbs that are like 2900k or do you use the more expensive ones that are 3200k?

Do you need the black paint?

@BloggingBrothers I would assume so, otherwise it'd disrupt the lighting of your shot, reflecting randomly and stuff.

Mr Grey80002, it actually pays to watch the whole video as there is a hidden pyro feature at the end.
So from being smart in comment it has revealed you did not watch the video.
A normal person would watch a video then make a suitable comment, so who's looking stupid now.?

I've made similar rigs in the past, but I didn't know about the heat proof black paint! (I gotta to get me some to stop the flaking)
...As a side note, pie tins also make excellent animation inserts for simulating the Terminator 2 liquid metallic bulletholes!
