  • I had plans on using nitrous .... they have dissipated after i saw this. if i was super rich i would risk it but i cant afford for something like this to happen

  • did you ever fix your cobalt or did you end up selling it?

  • ive got an 2010 ss i have to admit that is sad to see happen.....

  • good stuff

  • Get rid of the upstream nitrous system and you wont have this problem again. Get direct port nitrous wet system. Also adjust the timing, because it is obviously slightly off.

  • @dasurflife If you had read his note you would have read that it was a faulty window switch. I think I would take a destroyed intake over a blown engine and that would have happened if he had direct port injection. Although I agree direct port is better, in this case, an upstream nozzle probably saved his engine.

  • Carbon fiber hood added 50hp, plastic intake just needs bondo and it will be fine.

  • @ladyfire9302 or maybe some Duck Tape right?

  • @RollermanDan How much did the engine damage cost you? Thats engine damage alone.

  • That's really sad when your car has to *Break into the 14's*....lmao

You seem like a cool dude......Blessing to ya.

  • @ryanjofre Yeah...it is lol. But at the time, no one had really done a nitrous kit on a 2.2L Cobalt. For a long time, the 14.6 was the "record" for base model Cobalts. All in all, had fun and still till this day was never bothered by what happened. Like they say, that's racing...and stuff happens. Gotta pay to play!

  • sick ss camaro hood!

  • Honestly I'm not a fon of the little motor cars(hondas, acuras, neons etc)but have to give you props.I've seen some guy's at the track running your time with bone stock 4.6L mustangs so that's not too shabby for a motor that's less than half.Really for bad for your ride though man especially since that's probably your daily ride.

  • that song is hard on guitar hero expert mode

  • despite a nitrous backfire and all the damage it caused, you seem remarkably unfazed about it. im surprised, most other people would be barfing up swear words.

  • good stuff

  • Happy New Year ! ! ! KA BOOOOM ! ! !

  • it was, is still a beautiful car

  • you all are a bunch of homo's.and your cobalt is mean as fuck!you tard

  • why a cobalt? You could have done more with better for the money your spending. Even if you are doing the work yourself. I do feel bad for ur car tho. I wouldn't wish that trouble on anybody.

  • Insurance should pay to fix it... ;-)

  • how much were you shooting her with?

  • appropriate music lol

  • well, ill be honest.........that sucks

  • Man watching this video is making me miss all the good days i had with my

1970 CHEVELLE SS Cobra Mustang engine with nitrous

  • Every nitrous explosion I see on the track has been due to these faulty window switches. Thank you for convincing me to just have a regular nitrous switch.

  • I can hear the Jr. Dragsters in the background. I used to race them. Nice cobalt, too bad the damage was so extensive.

  • thats what its ment for lol

  • Nice car. Costly mistake.

  • why cause it would have never even come close to 14.6 with out it.

  • nitrous.... its steroids for cars.... it will make u faster and stronger but eventually u get heart failure or in this case blow ur 9000 dollar car with a 500 dollar kit failure

  • i thiught it was going to be a ss

  • thats y i put headers on my cobalt

  • i have a true cobalt ss, wit an eaton s/c. does low 14s. love the power off the line. came wit upgraded pistons and stage 2 ecu. the car loves to eat riceburners. car tops out at 150. i kno i've been there wit it. dont believe me i'll b happy to show ya. the car came w/o a gov cuz it had zr tires. nos is on the wish list but i'm only goin wit a 75 shot.

  • Manufactures love to put plastic manifolds in cars what did you expect.

  • aw what a shame, nice first race

  • Now me and the mad scientist have to rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried,,,,

  • @CarEnthusiast80 More like shattered ;) lol

  • @RollermanDan If you were a true car fan I bet you already watched all the Fast and the Furious movie and the classic (my favorite) Fast and the Furious 1, when Toretto Told Brian after the first race finished and Brian had to give Toretto his 94 eclipse?

  • @CarEnthusiast80 only once the floor pan falls off

  • @CarEnthusiast80 I'm gonna need to bottles....the big ones

  • @CarEnthusiast80 LMAO!

  • The music thought...lol @ the music

  • hey least it hit decent numbers

  • haha i hit 14.6 on stock 2.0 s/c with wheel hop. only had intake/cat back

  • how much of a nitrous shot was that? 50 ? 75 ?

  • Vrrrrroooooommmm splat! Pretty sure the clutch in that mustang will go pretty soon.

  • wtf Kenny Rogers at 0:22

  • o sorry for that yes by the stainless steell and it wont hapen again ooo and when you run nitress is better to run strait pipes that just my opinion i use to have an RX7 and that what i had on mys and i never had a problem well good look ..

  • this is why u should put money into the engine first then later add stuff. LOL great vid though. at least u had the nerve to do it. i could not.

  • As a Cobalt owner myself, I feel for ya, I'd hate for that to happen to my car...as for those who say that the Ecotec 2.2L is gutless, must have their head up their ass, if u know how to drive it, its faster than u think...got to know when to step on it and how hard (never floor it), when my throttle is at 43% no v6 I've raced has been able to keep up with me, especially no 4 banger thats NA.

  • @eyesore1978 BS come race my v6 an see how 43% throttle keeps up. and why cant you floor it is that 4 banger to much to handle

  • @eyesore1978 you must be seriously modified then...there's no way your 16 second car is walking away from other N/A 4 cylinders with less than half throttle.I would love to see you put up a vid of this monster car you have that somehow is 5 times faster than all others made just like it.

  • Good run.

35 years ago all of that plastic would've been all American made, high grade aluminum and steel. Pop the hood of almost any modern car and you'll see more plastic than what's on Britney Spears' body... with fiberglass... and Styrofoam... all held together with bubblegum and scotch tape. :D

  • dam plastic manifold intake .... no hate. .i mean nice car .. but that that trash engine out lolol get a 1.8 turbo . prolly pic up faster XD

  • video is actually funny lol but shit happens to all.

  • I would be crying if that was my balt :(. Good stuff ..got into the 14s at least haha.

  • (cont.) I know this video is old, but I hope you're back on the horse (as they say), and racing again.

  • Dude, seriously...I feel you you. I mean, I'm not a Cobalt fan, or even a Chevy fan and I know that a lot of people will bust your ass for using N2O with this car etc etc...but you know what, you're out at the track having a good time racing. Most importantly, you're NOT racing on the street. While I'm not a fan of your car, you're trying to have fun, and when something like this happens it sucks. It always sucks when something you've put your time into breaks. (tbc)

  • dont ya hate those plastic intake manifolds buy a aluminum intake manifold and it wont never happen again

  • @turboboyyea It would have been a lot worse had it been aluminum...

  • @RollermanDan Agreed, it would have torn your engine bay up, and damage your hood pretty bad

  • @RollermanDan I can say for sure that 3/16 plate aliminum will not hold up to a nitrous backfire, however, it's easier to put back together and tape it up to drive it home.

  • @RollermanDan

i run a 300 shot and ive had plenty of back fires of the line and i juss start it bak up and cruise down the track nothing damaged and my intake is aluminum. i mean its a 5.7L not smaller like urs but i would think aluminum would be way way way way way stronger. dk tho. never had a plastic intake

  • @turboboyyea he might as well go turbo then if he does that cause the only aluminum im made for the balt is for turbo/sc application

  • @turboboyyea

The only time you need anything stronger than plastic is when you're running 30+ pounds of boost. Otherwise, it's just going to be a slight vacuum.

  • the second that happened I woulda been soooooo instantly pissed.

  • Dont listen to any of the dumb ass coments on here from people who have no idea what they are talking about. I just blew a hole the size of my fist in my intake (4.6 ford) about 5 hours ago. Not as bad as yours, but that the dangers of running N20 with a plastic intake.

  • Blew the welds on the intake manifold!!!

  • @HKmaroLS1 Now the Mad Scientist and I have replace the piston rings he fried...

  • i think the fact he had a crappy stock plastic intake manifold may have saved him from alot more damage to his car since the manifold failed so easily, releasing the pressure.

  • that sux man but what can you expect out of a plastic intake manifold sux that happen but plastic mani with plastic runners was just askin for an explosion, hope your up and runnin again oh and UPGRADE your mani

  • @MrNismo88 Do you think an aluminum intake manifold would have fared better when the description clearly states that there was a faulty window switch?? Noob

  • That's bad!

  • this car will be resurrected

  • nos was a cheap easy way to boost the cars top speed and launch, chevy cobalts are moderate tuner cars. but the engine looks pretty much stock and thats why the nos blew out the manifold. 1 nos run=okay but a second or third the cars integrity is relying on the cooling system and the alluminum heads are under alot of stress too.

  • @jackfrost33420 While I agree, just remember that the window switch was faulty.

  • @RollermanDan

get a wot switch and dnt let off the pedal lol

  • @jackfrost33420 What lol? Your comment is hilarious. Obviously you know nothing about internal combustion engines or nitrous. People run 150 shots of nitrous on stock 220 hp Ford 5.0 liter engines all the time for like 100,000 miles with no problems. It doesn't wear your engine out any quicker, it will just destroy something if there is a malfunction.

  • @jackfrost33420 It was mainly because the window switch messed up and it sprayed to early you can run nitrous all day long pass after pass on a stock car and be fine as long its set up properly and nothing goes wrong

  • Nice song :D

  • not tryn to be too critical but obviously ur not too serious if you didnt even take all that weight out of the trunk. and try takin out the spare tire and the jack too. If you really wanna go fater tape up the front grille.

  • @KingBarlow You're right, I wasn't being too serious about it...but all that stuff you saw in the trunk wasn't there when I was actually going down the track. We put it in there since the car wasn't going to be running the rest of the day.

  • @KingBarlow whilst most of what u say i agree with, taping up the grille is madness. as we all know, the engine will need as much cold air into it as possible. going up the track at full tilt is when its working its hardest. your air filter, and radiator need a lot of cool air to maximise power and reliability.

  • @arfurjohnson taping the grill is a old salt flat trick for more speed it wont hurt the car depending on the cool down period between runs also depending on mods but 1320 is to short to really worry about taping a grill

  • @KingBarlow oh yeah tape up the intake.. that outa make it go faster! why not tape up the front windscreen too?

  • Well now you have a reason to do more mods, you have lots of it apart already...

    Nice car.

  • people say nitrous is the cheapest way for easy power, but in the long run it's not

  • 14.6 not bad 4 a na stock is like 15-16 sec do u think a dry shot would have been better

  • @speedytl12 I don't think there would have been too much of a difference.

  • Just out of curiosity what size shot were you running and what kit? Were you using a window switch??? It seems like to me you hit your rev limiter, without a window switch installed, loaded the manifold with nitrous, your rpm fell below your rev limiter, spark was re introduced and boom. If your not running a window switch there less then 200 bucks and will completely eliminate the posibility of that happening again.

    Just curious.

  • @armynova1 75 shot Zex. I was using their window switch also...but it malfunctioned.

  • if this chevy cobalt isnt a supercharge, WHY TRY TO SUPERCHARGE IT!!

  • @Myuzaki YOU'RE. BEING. DUMB. Stop it....guess you should tell all those civics and some other tuner cars that they shouldn't supercharge their cars because it didn't come that way.

  • did your insurance cover it?

  • those huge wheels explains the the mid 14´s.... i guess you really weren´t trying to get the best time, or too stupid to not know you´ll get better time with smaller wheels... layoff the nos.. invest in better intake manifolds, headers, some cams, pistons will be great, and then some 14" steelies, and some M.T. rubbers, and you´ll do a whole lot better... good luck

  • @argentinsimo23 You got it right the first time. Wasn't trying to get the most amazing time. Just out there having fun. I know smaller wheels and better tires would have done much better, but like I said, it was all for fun.

  • @argentinsimo23 Smaller tires will gear it down a little, but smaller tire doesn’t instantly mean better. Actually the best way to do it is to run the tallest, widest tire possible, then adjust your gear ratio accordingly. Taller tires have more contact area than shorter tires of the same width.

  • Well since the maifold is cracked now you could replace it with a header and have no trouble staying in the low 14's!!! Hell maybe even high 13's!!! Good luck and hope you ger her back to the track soon

  • Man, these guys in the far lane don't know how to do a freaking burnout in the hot box..

  • So ur sayin dont use nitrous if u have a plastic intake. nice car. so did u replace it with an aluminum intake

  • Is it just me or is youtube the world's biggest collection of @ssholes? So it's a Cobalt, so what if it's not 400 hp. He likes it and is having fun with it. Good for you man.

  • That's the lords way of saying...you don't have an SS. J/K Hope the repairs went well.

  • ha ha try explaining that to your insurance company.......

  • I thought plastic manifolds were high performance.??

    jackass

and he showed the engine bay. where the hell did you get turbos out of that lifehackertips?

  • @PIYF420

my best friend drives a boosted cavalier with 331 whp. So you cant say shit any car can be nice done right. Im boosting my cavalier and hoping to be high 200's low 300's on pump gas.

  • @ludachippy and my truck isnt boosted at all at Im doing 295 on pump lmao.

  • +1 for sense of humor

-50 for using a PLASTIC intake manifold

Now you know the problem, time to get one made of stainless steel

  • @tsherwoodrzero -1000 for u thinkin that u make intake manifolds out of stainless

  • a 14.6 is pretty slow for a turbo 4 banger with NOS

  • @lifehackertips I love how people don't know how to read. It was never turbocharged...

  • @RollermanDan hahahaha idiots

  • @RollermanDan So this wasn't an SS? Aren't those Supercharged? Sorry, I don't know much about the Cobalt. I live in Bakersfield though.

  • @24okay Nope, not an SS.

  • @RollermanDan Oh ok. One of my fellow techs at North Bakersfield Toyota said that near him, in Lake Isabella, a guy has a 450hp Cobalt. Not sure if it is really pushing that much though... I suppose it is possible. There are some crazy conversions done around these parts. One guy who modifies only Domestic cars, managed to fix up a 7th gen Celica for his sun, putting in a 2jzgte Supra motor and making it RWD. He asked my friend who owns a Supra at a gas station about it, showed pics.

  • @lifehackertips

    not turbo

  • @lifehackertips i agree and i drive one

  • @lifehackertips son, its the 2.2 148 hp stock lol. my dude that has the ss/sc can get around a 14.3 stock. so hes not doin to bad with a shot of nos. sure..its not the most safe way to get under 15's obviously lol.

  • I think i rather it be my plastic intake than my motor. That'll probably be cheaper than the hood.

  • Wow dude a 9.5 and a 14.6. Thats it? My bolt-on N/A cavalier runs 9.7's and 15.3 and it has 180,000 miles on it....lol

I am about to put a zex wet kit on mine so I will get some new times hopefully 2 tenths faster in the 1/8th???? I'm guessing I will be low 9 MAYBE high 8's and low 14.s in the 1/4 I will be running a 75 shot also.

  • @02cavcruzin ur a faggpt hick

  • @02cavcruzin

You drive a Cavalier. You can't talk shit.

  • i gotta ask man, why nitrous in a cobalt?

  • @GunsnSkater69 Just for fun really...not like I was out there trying to be a John Force.

  • @GunsnSkater69 Gm has a stage 3 ket that the Cobalt SS/SC owners can purchase that will upgrade there cars to a smaller pulley, bigger injectors, and even a 50 shot of dry nitrous, and still allow them to be under warranty, just an fyi...

  • @GunsnSkater69 actually cobalt's are fast with the right motor the 2.0 eco tech in the ss was the first front wheel drive car to hit 7 sec's but the 2.2 and 2.4 are gutless motors

  • @dankebuddha 7 seconds where?I know you are'nt talking about drag racing..Stephanie Eggum in her Honda broke 7's long before cobalts were even designed.

  • @MrCap0ne Look up Lisa Kubo...first 7 second fwd run using an Ecotec engine.

  • @GunsnSkater69 Why don't you ask GM racing and their Time Attack cobalt that walked a skyline?

  • @GunsnSkater69 to make it badass

  • @GunsnSkater69 because some people work with what they got

  • @GunsnSkater69 Why tune a civic?

  • @GunsnSkater69 right lol

  • @GunsnSkater69 yeah i wanna know why too

  • you should be proud

  • well at least ya got a good sense of humor about it :-)

  • easy fix , at least it wasnt rods and pistons

  • i had particles push thru the nos filter and held my solenoid open, car died in an intersection, just as I hit the starter I thought I heard a hissing .....BOOOOM- the hood bowed up about a foot..(cold air induction sealed to carb )

Particles came from using old medical grade NOS bottle upside-down it to fill my 10# bottles.

  • damn dude! what shot was that? was that a 60 or 100?

  • Hopefully that doesent happen to my 09 XFE Cobalt.

  • You can buy a dbilas manifold for that and it come with an exhaust manifold as well, would be worth a look for you

i might be under engine code z22se, i know that doesn't sound the same but it is because thats the euro engine code

  • sorry...wet or dry??

  • @jh0ssimar Wet kit. 4cyl EFI

  • @jh0ssimar

    wet

  • hey man what kind of nitrous system u were using?

  • @jh0ssimar Zex kit.

  • @RollermanDan Why'd you pop nitrous right off first gear and launch... first gear is where you've actually got some power... should have saved that stuff till 2nd and 3rd.

  • @burninmunkeys As it says in the description, it was a malfunction by the widow switch. It was suppose to come on in 2nd gear. Never was it suppose to come on at launch.

  • @RollermanDan Oh, alright, my bad. With the new YouTube set-up I rarely end up reading the descriptions anymore.

  • Plastic engine parts V.S Nitrous = BOOM

  • i didnt even no the made plastic intakes wow

  • How much shot of nitrous were you running?

Running too much nitrous on plastic intake manifold?

Should have touched on other stuffs before you touch on nitrous.

  • @y0h3s Was only a 75 shot...

  • @RollermanDan That sucks. Always sucks when that kind of stuff happen to your car.

I still would have got myself an intake manifold fabricated though

  • He didn't spray off the line. Your attempt at calling someone an idiot just backfired worse than his nitrous. You're pretty much a dumbass redmed427. Lmfao

  • I was expecting a real explosion...something that involves half of the car blowing up..hahaha

  • how much the damage did cost to repare ?

  • dude, that sucks

  • anyone know what size shot he used?

  • DANGER TO MANIFOLD "Shut up!"

  • FnF reference, lolz

  • plastic wtf, good chance to get some metal in there.

  • dude i hade a cavalier with the same engine and crappy ass plastic intake. i upgraded to an aluminum one im runnin nos with no prb.

  • LMAO "Good stuff"!

  • well ida rather blown one thats plastice...otherwise it could have been alot worse...but its not wise to fix up your only driver...and dont drive your race car to the track thats stupid...take it from an old guy lol bring spare parts cause shits gonna break

  • definitely should take this guys word

  • It's all plastic these days :)

  • Most factory use plastic because it is cheaper and less weight. If you are going to be drag racing or time attack.Use the good product that is what they are built for.

  • haha i love the license plate!

  • Good old plastic intake manifolds =] My Mazda 6 had one as well. I think most new cars do.

  • @peepeeskillz Not what the GM Build Book states...

  • lol he is still having a good time with his car fucked up........ but why is the intake manifold made of plastic? i don't know all that much about cars so if anyone has a good answer let me know ..........
