  • Jayne's looking to kill some folk.

  • Ain't. We. Just.

  • it was a big gun, but it would have been nice if he'd brought vera along

  • Comment removed

  • Aint we Just.

  • Cut her down!

    The girl is a witch.

Yeah, but she's our witch. So cut her the hell down.

    Shivers, every time...

  • Y'all see the man hanging out of the spaceship with the really big gun? Now I'm not saying you weren't easy to find. It was kind of out of our way and he didn't want to come in the first place. Man's lookin' to kill some folk. So really it's his will y'all should worry about thwarting.

  • @JackyB92 thanks i really needed that (:

  • I just love this show, *In GIR's voice* I'M GOING TO WATCH IT AGAIN!

  • Big damn heroes. DAMN RIGHT!

  • I love Zoe.

  • Serenity is, in fact, a warship. It's armament consists of Jayne Cobb.

  • I just love how everyone ALWAYS misinterprets River's random words... here Simon thinks she means time to die.

  • If you wanna watch this clip just for the iconic lines by Mal & Zoe, click on

    0:57

  • probably the best rescue scene ever in the history of ever

    Big damn heroes

    I wanna be one :D

  • This should be titled "She's our witch"

  • River is so... awesome <3

  • I didn't know why all the Uncharted fans and Firefly fans were clamoring for Nathon Fillion to play Nate Drake. But now that I've seen a clip of the actual show, holy sh*t he does really look and sound like Drake. Why was this guy not the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice for Drake?

  • "This is a holey cleansing you can not thwart gods will" "You see the big man hanging out of the space ship with the really big gun" well hes a little pissed off LOL that says it all.

  • Simon and River are adorable oh mah lord.

  • "Y'all see the man hangin' outta the spaceship with the really big gun?"

  • I do my best to use the phrase "Big Damn Heroes" every opportunity I get in everyday conversation.

  • What a bunch of ignorant mother fuckers -- if society ever reverted to this state again, I'd be damn proud of a scrappy group of rebels like Mal.

  • @halfbreed1426 Society has already reverted to this. Gitmo. Nuff said.

  • @ShadesOfKnight I only said if.

  • "AIN'T WE JUST!" XD

  • "yeah but she's out witch *cch chh* so cut her down .."

  • I GOT CHILLS!

  • TV tropes anyone?

  • @rikko338 This IS the trope namer after all.

  • @rikko338 Trope namer!

  • @rikko338 :)

  • Later in this episode was the best scene from the series, and I wish someone would put it up...

"You don't even like me, why did you come back for us?"

"You're on my crew... why are we still talking about this??"

  • What episode was this?

  • @hpobsessed21 The episode was called Safe.

  • What I don't get is that, clearly, this show is great. It is just absolutely perfect in every way. Lots of people want it back. So...why, in a world where Seth McFarlane has three shows, does a piece of television gold like this not get renewed? What is that? Seriously. Somebody please explain it to me in a clear and concise way, 'cause I refuse to believe that Stargate's fanbase was strong enough to want Stargate: Universe, but all the Browncoats can get is a single movie?

  • @ErikMogan Okay, clear and concise (albeit somewhat sad): Large number of people loved the show. But the network did some things that guaranteed it got poor ratings. They aired the episodes out of order. They kept changing the time slot and the night. And they did all of that during the first season, the most essential time in the life of a show. So the show got fairly poor ratings, and its viewer demographic wasn't what fox wanted it to be. (More women responded to it than men.) So they axed it

  • @ErikMogan because FOX sucks? thats all I got.

  • @ErikMogan Because people found better things to do. Mal is on Castle now. They're all too old.

  • this is definitely my favorite episode!

  • Ooooooh my god, river is just the cutest thing ever! =D

  • When Mal says, "yeah , but she's our witch." I always get a little teary-eyed

  • "t didn't feel the need to strip Zoe down to her underwear to hold viewer interest"

Yeah, that's what Inara was for.

  • Ain't we just.

  • Can someone help me out here? I can't for the life of me understand what Mal says to Simon at 1:37. I've listened to it over and over and I just can't get it.

  • @iheartap72

"Gotta say, doctor, your talent for alienating folks is near-miraculous."

  • @MinnowEx ahh ok. thanks very much. I understood "Gotta say, doctor...garbled speech.... near-miraculous."

  • @MinnowEx @iheartap72 Thank you so much! I kept rewinding and rewinding, but I couldn't figure it out! Lol.

  • @Hailo7788 No problem :)

  • guys, we all miss this show, this is why we are trying to bring it back, there is a movement on the way. check this out:

HELP NATHAN BUY FIREFLY on facebook

since nathan fillion mentioned last week if he had 300 mill to buy the rights for firefly back and put it on the net, a movement has formed, on facebook and twitter to gather as many people as possible to donate money to make it happen

if you like spread the word

  • 2 superstitious villagers disliked this.

  • My favorite Firefly scene, ever.

  • But how do you KNOW she's a witch?

  • @dalekprawn Build a bridge out of 'er!

  • @pheenix42 Ah, but can we not also make bridges out of stone?

  • Talk about your thrilling heroics!

  • I worry every day about thwarting Jayne's will.

  • awwwwwwwh.. XD so so sooo cute! <3 love the film, Serenity, have done since i was a tiiiny kid.. i know now what i want for my birthday.. thoe whoooole fireflys series on box set!! XD eek! <3 <3

  • Whenever someone arrives just in the nick of time, I always think of this scene, and play it word-for-word in my head.

  • "She's our witch...*cocks gun*...so cut her the hell down."

    Badass.

  • Town Leader: Girl is a Bitch

Mal: Yeah, but she's our Bitch.

  • @TheHunterBuddy Its witch not bitch

  • @theassasin207 yeah I already knew that. I just felt like saying it.

  • Ain't we just?

  • Big damn heroes.

  • mal lied... he said he (as in firefly) wouldn't die cause he was too pretty!

  • I want more firefly, please.

  • I want to watch this.

  • The clip that inspired the trope. Keep flying, Firefly. :)

  • Yeah. But she's our witch. Now cut her the hell down. GOD, I LOVE THIS SHOW.

  • "Yeah, but she's our witch."

    Best line in that clip.

  • I like the part where John Casey cocks his shotgun.

  • Just got through watching the entire series. Haven't seen Serenity yet.

Why does it not surprise me that something awesome doesn't last?

  • The most touching thing about this episode is how Mal came back for Simon and River even when their own father didn't.

  • If I hadn't found this show on Hulu, I wouldn't have gotten all the references I've heard from it. I never knew just where "big damn heroes" came from till I saw this episode, and I cheered when I heard Zoe say it (great delivery from Gina T!)

  • Big damn heroes.

  • I see a Christine O'Donnell campaign commercial....

  • @snelson134 ugh dont shiat all over this beautiful scene pls. kthxbai

  • @snelson134 I see a lame idiot posting crap to a thread that isn't about politics. Jackass.

  • @PhUTube4Evah Actually, it does relate. There was a video of her saying "I am not a witch". So you're the lame idiot now. Jackass.

  • @6235river No, it doesn't. Christine O'Donnell has NOTHING to do with Firefly.

  • @PhUTube4Evah It has to do with the part of this episode when they called River a witch.

  • @6235river No it DOES NOT. Christine O'Donnell is a politician. Just because she got called a witch is no reason to bring politics into this.

  • @PhUTube4Evah They aren't really bringing politics into this. They're just saying that River Tam got called a witch and so did Christine O'Donnell. They're just pointing out similarities.

  • 2 people DIDNT see the man in the spaceship holding a really big gun

  • "Yeah, but he's OUR witch, so cut her the hell down!"

    HELL YEAH!

  • Who's the one jackass who clicked "Dislike"? Weeeeaaaak.

  • big damn heros sir

    aint we just

i love this scene so much :))

  • Simon: "Captain, why did you come back for us?"

    Mal: "You're on my crew."

Simon: "But you don't even like me. Why did you come back?"

Mal: "You're on my crew. Why are we still talking about this?"

  • Safe was an interesting episode. I liked the backstory with River and Simon, but i thought the overall episode was weaker (inb4 down votes). However, that scene is one of my favorite scenes in the entire series.

  • Zoe:"Big Damn Heroes Sir"

    Mal:"Ain't We Just"

  • Goddamn, I love this scene. In a single minute, you learn everything there is to know about the characters. Simon's devotion to his sister, to the point of dying for her. Mal doesn't go looking for trouble, but you don't mess with his people.

I love River's line. She says "Time to go"...it seems like she's accepting death, but really she already knows the ship is coming before it arrives. Very clever writing.

  • @milieu0 thats why i loved this show. lots of little things to suggest that shes a reader

  • Big Damn Heroes sir...

  • I'm supprised that everybody focuses on the Big Damn Heroes line, surely "Y'all see the man hanging out of the spaceship with a really big gun?" Is the best line every written?

  • DERP DERP WE WENT TO LIBERATE A WOMAN BUT DIDN'T CARRY A KNIFE

  • Ah, my favirote part of this episode. Simon shows just how much he has gone and how far he is willing to go because of the love of his sister. And the whole 'Big Damn Heros' part. But who ain't not liking that part.

  • Yeah, but she's our witch. So cut her the Hell down.

  • I love how the camera moves...

  • "Yeah, but she's our witch - so cut her the hell down."

yet another example of how awesome this show is.

  • Nathan Filion would have been a PERFECT "Face" for the A-Team movie.

  • Shiny!

  • As much as I hate the fact that firefly got cancelled, I'm glad that at least some of the actors went on to find success, like Nathan Fillion in Castel, and Adam Baldwin in Chuck, both of which I am happy to say have not been cacelled yet, and at least adam baldwin pays homage to Jayne on Chuck with great little one liners and a big reference to this big damn heroes moment when he comes down from the ceiling while shooting up the bad guys in the Chuck season 2 finale.

  • "Captain, why did you come back for us?"

    "You're on my crew."

"Yeah, but you don't even like me, Why'd you come back?"

"You're on my crew. Why are we still talking about this?"

  • this makes me happy

  • Mighty fine shindig!

  • 0:15 way to take the emotion out of it hahaha. gotta love river.

  • let the hijinx ensue..........

  • Crowning moment of awesome.

  • @worloq crowning moment of heartwarming @0:33 too!

  • "Y'all see the man hangin' outta the spaceship with the really big gun?"

The delivery gets me every time.

  • To answer some folks, What Mal says at 1:38 is "I gotta say Doctor, your talent for alienating folks is near miraculous."

  • I am planning to have a get together with some friends who have never seen the series and to blow through Firefly and Serenity in two sittings.

The fans have carried this show into a cult classic and even though the show may be over, the legacy has survived. In the words of Mal...

"We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."

  • @BornOfSong

i dont know who you are, but my friend did the same thing and as a result i am in love with this series.

    thanks for keeping firefly alive!

  • @BornOfSong I think that makes us big damn heroes eh?

  • @BornOfSong oh man, your little Mal quote at the end gave me goosebumps!

proud to love firefly, and proud to have pushed it on to anyone who values truely great television!

  • @BornOfSong Amen. The Browncoats have truely done the impossible. Firefly is still one of the best sci-fi shows EVER. HUGE cult following that rivals that of Star Trek or Star Wars. and it only ran for 14 episodes. how many other shows can you say that about?

We truely have done the impossible, and that always WILL make us mighty.

  • "Yea, but she's our witch so cut her the hell down."

    Love that line.

  • what does Mal say at 1:38 to which Simon says 'Yes, I'm very proud' ?

  • @lostismyconstent "Got to say doctor, your talent for alienating folks is near miraculous,"

  • it's funny, the dvd subtitles have no idea what he said, either XD

  • with one line, a whole thematic element is named and codified.

  • Man! i wish i would have known about this when it was actually being aired!

  • Nah, if you had you'd have watched it out of order and missed 2 episodes...

  • "He lookin to kill some folk" ROFL!! LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

  • Stupid Fox. Why did they have to stop airing it? D:

  • Cus it had a brain, good writing, good acting and it didn't feel the need to strip Zoe down to her underwear to hold viewer interest. It wanted u to think. all these things are poison 2 ur average fox viewer...

  • Also they aired the episodes out of order, with the pilot episode being the last they aired. Then they wonder why it gets bad ratings. Way to go, Fox - bet you wish you kept it now!

  • @psychicllamakiller I would have been happy with Jewel Staite in her underwear

  • @Nymphonomicon wouldn't we all? ^^

  • @psychicllamakiller Yes, as soon as something has to resort to fanservice to keep people at the screen, the show has forever jumped the shark, and is beyond help/

  • @psychicllamakiller exactly, to show Zoe like that would be degrading, and would completely ruin the point of her character

  • @psychicllamakiller Which is not to say we'd object to stripping Zoe down to her underwear, of course.

  • one ass hole in the fox higher ups didnt like the show

  • lol ya but she is our witch so cut her the hell down. lol gottta love him and his acting, and I like the aprt when they say Big Damn heroes.

  • i love this show too bad fox were wankers and canceled it before the first season was even over

  • "ya but shes our witch ....... so cut her the hell down!" yay mal

  • Mal: Well look at this! We must have got here just in the nick of time, what does that make us?!

    Zoe: Big damn heroes, Sir!

    Mal: Ain't we just?!

  • "Y'all see the man hanging out of the spaceship with the REALL BIG GUN?"

    Best. Line. Ever.

  • my favorite is still wash's "Dear God, in heaven!"

  • man, how many shows have so many just brilliant moments like this? Some episodes were a hoot, some a work of art, some, like this one, both (river dancing is high art, and this bit is just great). "out of gas" is TV art, it really is. love this show.

  • '...he didn't want to come in the first place. 'Man's lookin' to kill some folk"

That sums Jayne up completely. The man's a champion.

  • Awesome Series Own the DVD box Set Great Show to bad it was canceled fyi the dvd box set contains either 2 or 3 episodes that were never aired including "The Message"

  • OMG are you serious!? I wanted to buy it before, but now I want to buy it even more! Extra episodes? God does exist!

  • I loved this show, and this was one of my favorite scenes.

  • Haha, Firefly is the est tv show EVER.

  • Do you all see the man hanging out of the space ship with a really big gun? I'm not saying y'all weren't easy to find but kinda out of our way and he didn't wanna come in the first place, and hes looking to kill some folks. Ha this is an amazing series in which i may not have it on blu ray but i got it.

  • AIN'T WE JUST?

  • there are petitions and websites to get the show back on the air, as well as comics that fill in alot of the blanks, like what happens between the untimely end of the series and the movie Serenity. And i do believe there's a new comic out exploring Sheppard Book's history..

  • Does anyone know why it was axed? Good all-round show! The film is good aswell, it's called Serenity.

  • "the girl is a whitch" " yeah well shes our witch, so cut her the hell down" i love this show.

  • What ever happen to this show? I liked it very much....

  • It --although subtle-- swung a bunch of hits on american values and standards, which didn't come off very pleasing to the network directors, and was cancelled.

Basically, FOX is a type of network that wants mainstream shows, shows that really have been done 10 times before just slightly different, but depict a world where american/western (I'm european, not really much difference besides less religious) standards are glorified

It's a shame, but that's how it is, shows that provoke get the boot

  • Actually, a big part of it was FOX screwing up the order of the episodes and not showing the two part opening episode first. They just dropped viewers in the middle of the series without any explanation of how Simon, River and Shepard Book joined the crew, or Mal and Zoe's history.

  • "swung a bunch of hits on american values and standards, which didn't come off very pleasing to the network directors"?!? 'cmon dude are u serious? whether poorly promoted, run in the wrong order, poor ratings or any other number of reasons, it got pulled.

I loved the series, I own the DVD set, but I'm not buyin' into all this values/standards hooey.

True, networks squeeze old ideas till no more profits drip; but when they stray from the formula like w/ Firefly, the leash is short, nothing more

  • lol "shows that provoke get the boot" yeh ok maybe but family guy is still around....saying that doesnt provoke?? sure it got the boot but it is back cos the fans cried so much and the dvd sales were amazing to say the least, so no its not all to do with it supposedly provoking anything. great show though have it and serenity on blu-ray, love them both.

  • @xantheus

Animated series are easier to pull back on, especially non-linear series' like Family Guy, because actual show order doesn't really matter. Firefly on the other hand...well, it absolutely has to be shown in order, otherwise it won't make sense. And if they bring it back, then they need to get all the actors back. And family Guy had, what, five voice actors?

  • For what i looked it, Fox aired the show out of order, doing somthing weird like episode 2,3,1,5,4,6 so on and so forth. people watching the show, got lost and didnt think that it flowed well (wonder why).

So a big thank you to the morons at fox, for knowing better then they guy who made networks millions with buffy, and angel.

  • Such a show. Upset that it didn't run longer, but in a way it makes it more of a gem. If it had kept running, Fox woulda ruined it somehow. This way it has become a legend, like it deserves to be.

  • God, I love this show so much. Classic Firefly moment. So unjust that it didn't run longer than it did.

  • firefly is freekin awsome

  • "She's a witch."

"Yeah, but she's our witch. So cut her the hell down."

  • You said it.

  • ...

  • :D boo yah
