I got confused for a moment when you had Godfather at #2. I remember it being at #3, and thought, "Is this the original list or the new list?"

Then I saw on the side "83. Titanic"

I NEVER liked the new list! I always thought it was nothing but a PC rehashing for having "Birth of a Nation" on the original list.

This is only the America's greatest movies. Once you throw in some Bergman, Fellini, Godard, Kurosawa, Ozu, etc. The list would have a huge change. I don't know what people see in The Shawshank Redemption, I didn't think it was anything special (maybe because I knew the ending).

my favorite, and IMO a more powerful quote than "offer/can't refuse", is Michael telling Kay close to the beginning of the film, "That's my family Kay, it's not me.". It outlines the entire plot of the movie, Michael's change to the new don.

I've seen Citizen Kane and The Godfather repeatedly, and I really don't think CK can touch the latter in any area. it's a good film, but I think most of the praise has to do with technical innovations.

Now What I want to know is who gave you a thumbs down. They should put the dark Knight on the list if they ever renew this list. Although it wouldn't be in the top 10 it sure should be on the list of 100 greatest films of all time. Also personally I think that the Shawshank redemption, Schindler's List should get a higher spot on the list and the godfather should be number 1.

The Dark Knight is a good movie buy it was only made famous because Heath Ledger died before it released. it should be on the list but it shouldn't be on the top ten, and the AFI have renewed the list once back in 2007 and will probably renew it again in 2017

I'm glad Godfather beat out Casablanca on this updated list. It really is the better of the two. That said, I think Godfather 2 deserved a higher place on this list. IMHO, it's even better than Godfather 1. I guess it's the fact that it's a sequel that keeps it from getting recognized and praised in its own right.

The Godfather should be #1. It is the only movie that is considered both by critics and average movie fans an absolute masterpiece. It is #1 on the IMDB Top 250 and #2 on the AFI Top 100. That's impressivle, because it is very difficult for a movie to satisfy professional and normal movie fans at the same time. And no other movie managed to do it so good like The Godfather.
