I don't think there's any question that it's misleading, the question is does it go too far? I think if this is accurate and happening, it's over the top. If they want to bundle them all, they can at least put them side by side. Per game, not per shelf, the customer should know what they're buying, period.
the gamestop that is near my house never display games like that the racks can only hold 1 game and there is two section and plus if that happen it to you just go to the cashier and ask for the new copy of the game.
but gamestop is really cheap and i hate but that is business!
if you dont like it dont buy anything from them and go to bestbuy or target to get the games.

I hate when people bag on Gamestop or EBGames because not all of the Gamestops are bad. I LOVE the Gamestop we have here in town. The staff is nice, they have lots of good deals, they don't push things on me like subscriptions to Game Informer. All in all, the shop is great.
Personally I like Gamestop. I like their policies and I like buying used games. If you don't like buying used then all you have to do is walk up the the cashier and tell them what game you want and that u want it new. I have a lot of respect for you GUNNS but I think that you have a biased hate for Gamestop.

EBGAMES is honestly horrible... I got Resistance 2 as a gift, and really didn't want it. I brought it into EbGames to trade it in and they gave me $5... It was sealed in the plastic brand new!!!
the people at the ebgames near me ARE AWESOME. and it seems to be sorted out well. AND eb games employees are paid hourly not by commission so they dont even need to tell you how awesome used games are
with the ebgames around where i live you dont pull the game off the shelf to buy it you go up to the cashier to get it so it is not as misleading that way

I work at Gamestop and we don't do ours like that. We clearly have the games labeled as you said and in different sections. When it comes down to it used game sales are the only reason Gamestop is still able to run. With publishers such as Activision being the greedy bastards they are the retail markup of new games is only 7-10%. A company cannot make it on only 7-10% profit. Compare it to furniture markup which is anywhere from 200-400%. THAT is the reason we push used game sales.

Technically it is good business practice, but this change is definitely informing consumers that the company does not care about an investment of trust between company and consumer. There is no question of whether this tactic is misleading or not. E B Games will likely lose customer favoritism from experienced gamers. I believe that the experienced gamers are a community where ethics play a large part in the personality of the community. When a product is sold everywhere, trust is key.

Me personally I don't mind buying used games. The only used games I don't buy are the ones that you have to have an online pass and it also sucks buying a used game that has promo codes but has already been used.
I've started getting games from Future Shop recently; you get a brand new (not opened and stickered) game, no hassle to pay $2.00 for a guarantee you won't use, no pressure to pre-order games you don't want- you just get what you came for and you know it's what you will want. This just makes it so much worse in my opinion.
I dont see a problem with it, its gonna save people money to buy used than new. I know it takes money away from the developers but I really don't care, half of them do online passes anyway and if the game is that good then I will buy it the day it comes out and therefore be forced to buy it new.

This is a brilliant move for the game store. No doubt this will increase profits and as long as they leave some sort of protectionist policy for the consumer i.e. "if it doesnt work then you can just return it for a new copy" the consumers will more then likely adjust comfortably to this. This will increase the sale of used games though, and why shouldn't they be sold like new games? Its not like they are the cartridges that were once sold in the older days that were beat when you bought them.
Food stores do this all the time, older food is in front and newer food is in the back. Who gives a s***? Would you go out and buy week old bread, or would you look to see you are getting what you are? Your fault either way

Yeh here in the UK we do have this system but in game stores like Game and Gamestation this is from where i from in the UK they just will randomly insert a preowned game in the game sections and yes they have yellow strips down the side telling us its a pre owned copy and they also do platinum copys of games im always looking at the cover propperly to make sure i dont get ripped off

@dragnfr39 That's not good for the developers or publishers. Every time one of their games is bought used, the money from that sale goes to the game store and none goes to the developer/publisher. That's why I personally think the online passes for games are a good idea

i dont have a problem buying used if its a game im not to sure on or if i will play it that often as all the blockbusters are out of business and there are not many places to rent but it sucks now alot of games if u buy used need to pay for a online pass and when you add that into the price of the used it ushally comes close to the new one anyways so i ushally buy new but some times i wil buy used
Haven't noticed the white stickers on used games at my local EB Games store here in Australia but they don't have a seperate section for the used games, they're just put on the shelf with all the new ones. If that is happening then it's pretty misleading.
Well I think its misleading... I buy direct from distribution centers and save at least 50$ from what I'd pay at EB. Like even now Big W were selling MW3 for 69$ (Aus) compared to EB for 119$
I stopped shopping at Gamestop a long time ago. Last time I was in there bought a new game for full price, opened it in the car and discovered it was used. So I went right back in the store to return it, and was only able to get half the price back in store credit. So I kept the game and told em to go F*** themselves. In Europe, atleast my country used games isn't big, gameshops arent big, often they have this "underground" feel to them and their new games are more expensive than say buying it at big store similar to walmart. They do however make it clear if it is used or not. Generally not a good idea to buy games at gamestores here...wierd huh.

In the UK we have a store called GAME, and personally I think it's excellent with it's reward points etc... i now have enough to buy a completely new game without me paying
In EB games in australia every single new game except some smaller titles are $120 bucks so thank goodness that the ps3 is multi-region so i jus buy online from america to make those greedy stores like EB go bankrupt btw for americans eb is the equivalent to gamestop in the U.S just double the price :D
Sorry but when i buy a new game i just go to the counter and ask for it at my gamestop, plus they are wrapped in plastic. Used games are never wrapped in plastic and dont have the seal on the box. People who mistake used for new must have an iq of a rock
in aus their is a used section for games that look used and used games that look new they put on as new. got fallout new vegas and it was used but sticker said new. just preorder game on release date so u get a new game every time

I've started getting games from Future Shop recently; you get a brand new (not opened and stickered) game, no hassle to pay $2.00 for a guarantee you won't use, no pressure to pre-order games you don't want- you just get what you came for and you know it's what you will want. This just makes it so much worse in my opinion.

I dont see a problem with it, its gonna save people money to buy used than new. I know it takes money away from the developers but I really don't care, half of them do online passes anyway and if the game is that good then I will buy it the day it comes out and therefore be forced to buy it new.

@IrishTeddi yea but people should still read those tags and stickers. its not misleading if it still says USED on it. i just bought a used mw2 and assassin creed last week, it has a white sticker on it and it read USED. no one got mislead they just got just like you said made psychological benefit, you can't blame EB for playing smart. you as the buyer have to make sure you know what your buying.

This is a brilliant move for the game store. No doubt this will increase profits and as long as they leave some sort of protectionist policy for the consumer i.e. "if it doesnt work then you can just return it for a new copy" the consumers will more then likely adjust comfortably to this. This will increase the sale of used games though, and why shouldn't they be sold like new games? Its not like they are the cartridges that were once sold in the older days that were beat when you bought them.

still it's better to have game shops what you going to do with your download game when your finished with it you can't sell it .when theres no game shops left don't be thinking ps3 & xbox store will be cheaper they already sell games on psn for £50 plus when you can buy it from a game shop for about £37.when theres no1 left selling games in shops psn will put prices right up because they will know you can't get a better deal elsewhere.don't be fooled by there bs.

Yeh here in the UK we do have this system but in game stores like Game and Gamestation this is from where i from in the UK they just will randomly insert a preowned game in the game sections and yes they have yellow strips down the side telling us its a pre owned copy and they also do platinum copys of games im always looking at the cover propperly to make sure i dont get ripped off

This is the only reason i dont trade games into gamestop. To buy a game back for 15.00 and still resell it for 49.00 is bs. BF3 is the biggest rip off to buy used since you have to pay 10 for online play so the buyer is back to paying full retail in the end. Sell your games on craiglist!

and the fact of the matter is that buying a used game is no different than borrowing it from a friend ( except the whole money thing ) it is cheaper and they do provide a return policy where u can trade it in for another one with no charge. only misbenefit is not getting pre-order privileges

@dragnfr39 That's not good for the developers or publishers. Every time one of their games is bought used, the money from that sale goes to the game store and none goes to the developer/publisher. That's why I personally think the online passes for games are a good idea

i dont have a problem buying used if its a game im not to sure on or if i will play it that often as all the blockbusters are out of business and there are not many places to rent but it sucks now alot of games if u buy used need to pay for a online pass and when you add that into the price of the used it ushally comes close to the new one anyways so i ushally buy new but some times i wil buy used

Haven't noticed the white stickers on used games at my local EB Games store here in Australia but they don't have a seperate section for the used games, they're just put on the shelf with all the new ones. If that is happening then it's pretty misleading.

I stopped shopping at Gamestop a long time ago. Last time I was in there bought a new game for full price, opened it in the car and discovered it was used. So I went right back in the store to return it, and was only able to get half the price back in store credit. So I kept the game and told em to go F*** themselves. They are a rotten corporation that needs put out of business.

Definately misleading, and actions like this will give them a bad rep, which in turn will affect their profit. Let them run themselves in the ground.
In Europe, atleast my country used games isn't big, gameshops arent big, often they have this "underground" feel to them and their new games are more expensive than say buying it at big store similar to walmart. They do however make it clear if it is used or not. Generally not a good idea to buy games at gamestores here...wierd huh.

Sorry but when i buy a new game i just go to the counter and ask for it at my gamestop, plus they are wrapped in plastic. Used games are never wrapped in plastic and dont have the seal on the box. People who mistake used for new must have an iq of a rock

in aus their is a used section for games that look used and used games that look new they put on as new. got fallout new vegas and it was used but sticker said new. just preorder game on release date so u get a new game every time
