I've definitely felt like I was part of intellectual conversations that were bigger than me, and I must say it is an indescribable feeling. I am one of few, unfortunately. Many students focus solely on getting the high grades and express disdain for the educational process, calling it too competitive. I feel like that is missing the point. To be in a room where your ideas flow back and forth between yourself and a professor is a great intellectual experience. ALMOST makes it worth the money.
His lecture on T. S. Eliot's "The Wasteland" was wonderful. I felt a connection and understanding of the time and the poem. I wish UT would put his classes on line.
I am an uneducated man who would like to view more of what this man has to say. I don't have the resources to pay for education.
Would someone please take time to put more of his teaching on You Tube. I saw part of something he did on both Chaplin and Becket stripping personal pretense to expedite truth.
@isoarcars My best suggestion in to audit some of his lectures. He teaches a rather large first year class and I'm sure he'd even try, if you made your case to him, to get you into a weekly tutorial session as well.
@isoarcars You can hear many of his lectures online. They are shorter versions and so not quite as amazing as in person, but still great. Google "TVO Big Ideas"
Search for Nick Mount or any of the following lectures he's done there (in order of greatness in my opinion): Waiting for Godot, Lolita, Ariel, The Wasteland, To the Lighthouse. Also go to Nick Mount Eng 140 website to see what music he plays in class for these lectures (the soundtrack). I find great new music there like Ani Difranco.
@isoarcars TVO bid ideas is a great place for a free education. I also like Robert Adam's lecture on The White Tiger, Jordan Peterson, Malcolm Gladwell, Mark Kingsley and Gabor Mate. Enjoy. Go to his lectures in person if you can though. I do and it's definitely worth the one hour trip.
Best professor in existence.
