Hey! I've seen this vid before but am especially appreciative of it now, since I am pondering top surgery more than before, and am also not male-identified. I agree with you that retaining sensation does feel pretty important. And I agree that the money issue is pretty crazy and daunting!!! Can I ask a question - How much did he say the surgery would cost? Thanks!!
Why are people like, "This doc will do surgery on non-trans people. Yay!" Of course they will. They'll take money from anybody, any way they can.
I hate the medical industrial complex. How INSANE it is that you need to pay somebody and get a letter from them in order to do something WITH YOUR OWN BODY?
Before you do anything, read "Medical Nemesis" by Ivan Illich, the medical system is about making you into a lifelong patient, and therefore a continuous source of revenue.
@gadsdensnake I couldn't agree more. It blows my mind that a heteronormative woman can get implants, which she OBVIOUSLY ONLY WANTS BECAUSE SOCIETY TELLS HER SHE SHOULD and someone like me generally has to get a letter from a therapist to do something that no one is encouraging me to do.
Unfortunately I don't have much time to read while school is in session, but I will definitely add that to my (long) list of books to read.
Hey! Dr. Garramone definitely does great work, but unfortunately he also (a) grafts the nipples which I'm trying to avoid so I can keep sensation there and (b) requires a letter from a therapist, which could be quite hard for me to attain given I'm not actually male-identified. :\
But thanks for the recommendation, I appreciate it.
I remember we've written each other before... I also dont identify as male im Genderqueer and went to therapy as genderqueer and about a month ago i got my letter. even at my consultation with garramone I told him how I identify and he was totally cool with it... Its all about how educated the therapist is...
@gadsdensnake maybe in you experience that is true but i go to a therapist through a place called sunserve in south fl and the go by how much you make and if you dont make enough then its free.
Yeah, I'm planning on taking out student loans for this semester, and probably some next semester, but the amount I can take out at one time still won't be enough to cover surgery, and unfortunately I don't have credit so I can't take out any other kind of loan. So, I'm going to need to scrape every dollar together on top of that.

@tfpunk1979 I disagree. It's all about how much they want your money.

I can get you the name of my friend who has gone to him if you're interested. :)

Yeah, that would be great if you could somehow get him to get in touch with me. I can send you my email address if you want. Thanks man! :)

That would probably be best, or Facebook works, but I'm not sure how you feel about that one. :) send me the email over AIM sometime.

Facebook totally works. I'll send you a message on here with my info in just a sec, as it may be a while before I'm on AIM again (busy week!).

Can you apply for financial aid through school and see if you are approved for any loans?
